(Rachael POV)
I tried so hard to avoid his tense gaze. I knew he wanted me to look back at him, but I knew better than to do so.
"You were saying something about being useless," he started as he walked towards me. I tried my best not to step away, and I stood my ground, but he walked forward and stood only a breath away, then he held my chin up as his gaze bored deep into my soul.
"I said that because that's how you appear," I said, holding his gaze.
"And how do I appear to you?" He asked.
"You're no different from those rich assholes," I spat and turned to walk away, but he gripped my hand and pulled me back. My back landed on his chest and he slowly leaned down.
"You should know your place, but don't worry. I'm sure changes will come eventually and when that time happens, I'm sure you'll be biting your tongue whenever you say something impolite," he stated before he slowly let go of my hand.
I turned around to face him. He really thought highly of himself and it was so obvious through the way he carried himself. Just like now as he stood proudly before me with his gaze blank.
"Let's go," he said and walked to the door.
"Wait!" I called, stopping him.
He turned to look at me with a perplexed expression.
"Can I at least say goodbye to my aunt?"
He looked at me for some time, and I already guessed that he would decline.
"5 minutes, I'll wait for you in the car," he walked out after that.
I walked to my aunt's room with a pounding heart. Would she really want me to go and never return? Will I never see my aunt again?
I knocked on the door hesitantly before gently pushing it open. "Aunt, I'm leaving now," I said, watching her pretend to be asleep on the bed.
I waited for an answer, just a word from her, even though it was a farewell. I heard a loud horn from outside, which clearly meant my time was up.
"Goodbye," I whispered. I spared one last glance before leaving the room and headed to the car.
I got in and sat beside my husband. Gosh, even the word sounded foreign to my ears, and I was having a hard time believing that I actually just got married to this man.
Jeez, the thought alone gave me goosebumps, and the fact that I didn't even know his name terrified me.
The silence was killing me and I wondered how long it would take to reach there because it already felt like we'd been riding for about an hour or so.
The city. I could never have imagined myself staying here, basically with how busy and big it was.
People would get missing and no one would know the person's whereabouts because everyone is strangers, unlike the village where everybody knew themselves and they also have no cases about people missing. Should I really get you used to this life? I wondered.
Turning to my side, I saw how focused he was while looking at his phone with a frown. Would he even let me out? If he wouldn't, then there was no need for adaptation.
Finally, we got to a gate with securities guiding it. Earpiece on their ears as they communicate through it. They bowed respectfully when they spotted us.
They opened the gate automatically and we drove through. My mouth fell open when my gaze landed on the grand mansion in front of me.
This was surreal, and I had to gulp down the lump stuck in my throat. Few men stepped out from the role of car's that followed us. They opened the door and I stepped out with my eyes still finding reality hard, but what was I expecting from a filthy billionaire?.
We walked through the entrance of the building and every part was captivating. I found it hard to blink until I heard his voice.
"Anna, take her to her room." He said, and I frowned while wondering who Anna was, but then someone spoke from behind me.
"Good day miss…" She trailed off.
"Rachael," I completed.
"I'm here to assist you," she started, but I waved at her as a sign that there was no need. She smiled weakly and nodded her head.
"Alright then, I'll take you to your room." She said, leading the way and taking some of my things with her.
We walked up the staircase and to the left wing side of the building. Walking to a door, she stopped and turned to me.
"This is your room," she then held the doorknob and pushed it open.
My jaw by now should be touching the ground, and I could hardly believe that this was my room. It was so classy and girly with blue and pink color and I had to admit that I felt like a soft naive girl for a brief moment.
I could still remember how my dad used to spoil me before he got a stroke. I missed him so much that it hurt. I suddenly got startled when the door to the room slammed loudly, and I turned to look at it. Where is Anna? I panicked and rushed to the door, and then I heard the sound of a key as she locked the door.
"Hey! Miss, what are you doing? Let me out!" I screamed at the top of my lungs but everywhere became silent, still I kept banging on the door until I got tired. I leaned on the door before sliding down in defeat, tears blurred my vision. I just felt exhausted and angry because it was clear that I just made the worst mistake ever by signing that contract.
Now, I'm nothing but a prisoner, and god help me that I don't die as one. I hugged my legs as I buried my face down.
What have I done?.
