Daniel stood in his room and looked in a daze at the light of the city.
He could hardly believe he just got married, but he did, and he made sure to keep everything in check, and by in check, it meant keeping Regina locked in her room all day. He should probably feel bad, but he didn't, instead he wondered when and where to start with his project.
He sighed at the sight of his reflection in the large window that overlooked the cityscape outside his house. He couldn't believe he'd let it get so dark so fast, the sky had started turning into black.
And the moonlight shining outside his window gave his pale skin an ethereal glow. He could hardly get his mind off her, even though he tried to believe that.
He walked to a table with files and a system. He started revising on the project, he wanted it to be the best, and he also wanted to use it as a surprise during the big event coming up, speaking of which, he just remembered he hadn't got any feedback from his brother.
He picked the phone on the table and dialed a number. It rang for seconds and when he believed the other person wouldn't pick up, the call connected.
"Hello?" He called but got no reply.
"Hello?" He repeated, but still nothing. What was this? Was the latter trying to waste his time? How immature!
He angrily wanted to end the call. However, a manly voice replied flatly.
"What do you want?" The person questioned.
"I called to remind you about-"
"If it's about the event, then forget it," the person rejected immediately.
"Mum would be there," what was he thinking? There was no way his brother would care about that. He could've mentioned anything but his mother.
"Would dad be there as well?" He asked nonchalantly.
Daniel was silent, unable to reply to his question.
"Alright then, if dad isn't there, then I am not coming," he stated plainly before attempting to end the call.
However, Daniel heard a hissing sound from the other end.
"What was that?" He asked but got no response.
"Let go," he heard someone say and groaned painfully, and he was perplexed when he realized that it was a lady. He could tell from the soft voice that sounded more like a soft melody.
But what made him shocked to the bone was that the voice was coming from the other end of the phone, which obviously meant that his brother was with a lady.
Daniel was stunned by what he just heard. His brother really was unpredictable and toxic. He started thinking about it, but unknowingly his thoughts drifted to Regina, and he sighed in frustration when he noticed it.
He should just call her down and get over this. He rang the servant bell and waited for a minute before a maid knocked on the door.
"Sir?"
"Is dinner ready?" He asked, though he wasn't hungry.
"Yes sir," she replied, still bowing. He dismissed her and sighed again before he walked down the staircase to the dining room.
Upon reaching there, he called for the maid. She bowed and waited for his order.
"Call the lady down for dinner."
"Oh okay sir," she bowed and rushed to do as told.
He waited patiently for her, or so he believed because his fingers kept tapping the table repeatedly as he waited for her.
What was taking her so long? He looked at his wristwatch and sighed again.
Meanwhile, Regina, who was still laying on the bed miserably, jolted up when she heard a startling knock on the door. She hesitated for a moment as she tried to comprehend what was behind the door and what to do next. She finally opened it and was shocked to see a young maid standing with an unreadable expression.
"Sir Daniel wants you down for dinner," she replied before leading the way. Regina frowned when she saw the girl walking away without glancing back to confirm if she was even following her.
She blinked her eyes confusingly as she forced her frozen feet to move forward. She walked behind the lady while her eyes kept wandering around the mansion. She was yet to get over the beauty of this house, no matter how much she kept staring, it was just too well organized.
She slowly moved her gaze to look in front of her instead of turning her neck around like a child who finally went to Disney World.
She narrowed her gaze when she saw a figure of someone sitting at the far end of the dinning table. Why did the table have to be so long? She wondered, though the table wasn't long, but where she was still far from the table.
Daniel's eyes snapped up at the person who just walked in. She seemed to be acting like a lost soul as she kept swirling around with a mesmerized look on her face.
Regina was still trying to recognize the face, but once she did, her legs froze and stopped in their tracks. Daniel frowned as he waited for her to settle down.
He cleared his throat, and Regina immediately returned to her senses. She blinked and reluctantly pulled a chair to sit before picking up the eating utensils.
They started eating in an uncomfortable manner, especially Regina, who couldn't stop the uneasiness she felt as Daniel kept staring at her throughout the meal.
"What is it?" She finally summoned the courage to ask.
"Did you enjoy your stay here?" He asked while he gazed bored into her soul. He couldn't help but sigh inwardly as he could finally see the face and the person that almost made him restless.
"It's more than I expected," she replied, looking down at the plate.
"What were you expecting?" He asked with a furrowed expression.
"I was expecting to be ignored and totally forgotten but, I was instead locked in a room for a day and the only thing I'm eating throughout the whole day was dinner." She replied, trying to keep her voice neutral.
"I see," he said flatly.
"No I see, actually I saw this coming, and I'm sure you've forgotten," she started, raising her chin.
"Forgotten what?" Daniel asked with a deep frown.
"That I still have the documents with me and any slightest mistake, and you might never get your hands on that land," she said, giving him a sly look.
Daniel's gaze moved down to the plate before he slowly dropped the utensil and crossed his hands over his chest before leaning back with an expressionless face.
Regina tried to pull one too, but Daniel narrowed his gaze at her, which made her nervous. What was he thinking? She asked inwardly when his gaze pierced deep into her.
