It was late. Really late. Maybe around 3 am? Nothing but the raindrops hitting the ground could be heard outside. Slowly, lightning and thunder made their presence in the background. If there was someone out there, by now, they were definitely hiding. No stars, not even one, could be seen in the sky and even the moon was hiding. Most people would think that this is awful weather...but it wasn't for him.
The wind was slowly moving his hair in all directions, sending shivers down his back. His eyes were wandering around, trying to analyze everything that was going on around him just to distract himself. A small blanket was covering his body, yet it didn't help him to keep himself warm. His cheeks were red from the cold and his lips were dry. But did it bother him? Not at all. It was one of the things he actually liked about March, the perfect cold weather.
With a sigh, he closed the window and looked at the clock.
"Great, another sleepless night".
With another sigh, he left his room and went to the living room. At least he lives alone and doesn't bother anyone. He would feel sorry. Actually, that's why he never wanted to get a roommate. He was unpredictable even for himself.
He looked around the house, hoping he would find something to do until he needed to get ready for work but luck wasn't on his side: the house was really, really clean. So he spent the few hours he should have been sleeping looking at the rain that, at some point, stopped so he started walking around the house. Once the clock indicated that it was 7 am he went straight to the bathroom to take a shower. He really wanted to go to work. At least he had something to do and he felt useful. He let the hot water drops run down his body, making him relax instantly. He shivered a bit, feeling the cold leaving his body. As his body was always cold, showers were his favorite. It made him feel warm.
Once he was done he wrapped a towel around his waist and walked to the closet. After looking around for a few seconds he chose some black ripped jeans and a white oversized hoodie. It wasn't all professional but he couldn't care less. He would rather be comfortable and besides, he dresses up for himself, not for others. Once he was done he ruffled his hair, not bothering to do anything with it, and put on his black boots. Lazily he made his way to the kitchen, already knowing that he needed a strong coffee to keep up with his work. Who would have thought that being the best detective of Seoul's police department at such a young age could be so tiring? But does he regret it? No, not at all. His work meant everything to him. He's always working, he doesn't really go out and he doesn't have many friends. Why? Because he doesn't need them. What's the point of having a bunch of friends? All they could possibly do is distract him from his work and he's not having any of that. After all, everything that he has left is work. Just work and more work. So he couldn't mess it up. He couldn't afford that. Without thinking he threw himself on the couch, almost spilling the coffee. He absently looked at the TV, finishing his coffee without even realizing it.
After a while, he got off the couch, took his keys, and left the house. It was pretty big, the outside was painted dark gray and the walls on the inside were painted in black. The furniture was black and white and a few paintings were hanging around. Maybe for others, it was odd and weird, maybe even creepy. But he loved it that way, it was perfect for him so he couldn't care less about what the others had to say. As soon as he got into his car, he allowed himself to relax completely. He knew that he wouldn't be able to do that too soon so he enjoyed every second of it before driving to the police station. The drive wasn't that long but he was already tired from not getting any sleep last night so after he drove for what felt like forever he got out of the car and went straight to his office. On his way there, he got the same stares as usual: some showed respect, some showed arrogance, some showed jealousy, others were intimidated because of his presence… At first, he felt uncomfortable but after quite some time he got used to it, almost like it was normal. So he just ignored them and looked straight ahead. And anyways, his ego is way too big to even pay attention to them. Maybe that wasn't the right attitude but changing anything about himself wasn't on his "to-do" list.
Once he got inside he went straight to his desk. His office was just like his house, full of dark colors. Even though he tried to mentally prepare himself for the day he just couldn't bring himself to get his laptop and get started. Maybe it was because of the lack of sleep or maybe he just wasn't feeling his best.
After allowing himself to close his eyes for a few minutes he got to work. And as always, once he cleared his mind and concentrated just on his work, he lost track of time. Maybe that was just another bad habit but it was really useful especially when he had to get a lot of work done. But as he was typing he heard a weird noise coming from the other side of the door. Not even bothering to check he kept on filling in some files that he needed to print later that day. He was used to people being noisy so he didn't pay much attention. But eventually, he got annoyed when the noise wasn't stopping and sighted.
"Juwon, just come in. No need to keep making those noises, you sound like some animal dying at my door."
With a loud bang, the door burst open, revealing indeed the older with an offended expression.
"Excuse me? That sounded like a cute, little, and adorable puppy!"
Knowing that the conversation wasn't going anywhere he just rolled his eyes and got back to work.
"Yah! You brat!". Juwon's voice was maybe way too loud for the quiet room yet he didn't say anything to the older. What was the point anyways? He was only going to complain more than he already did and Sehun really wasn't in the mood that day to keep up with all this.
"Hyung, just tell me why are you here. We both know very well that we're busy and have no time to waste." Unlike earlier, Sehun was nice enough to look for a few seconds at the older before looking back at the screen.
Oh, and how did Juwon wish to have something to say about it or make a comment but he knew that the younger was right. They were weirdly busy lately, something that never really happened because everything was well organized. Maybe if people stopped killing each other or committing other crimes things would get back to normal. Sometimes he wondered why did people feel the need to kill someone or make'em suffer. But honestly, as much as he looked into it or studied other cases he never found an answer to his question.
With a soft shake of his head, he looked at the younger boy sitting on the chair on the other side of the table. To say that he was shocked by Sehun's talent wasn't enough. The blonde boy never failed to surprise him with his knowledge and abilities. Even his personality and way of thinking are different from other people. And that was something that everybody knew. But as much as he respected him, he was genuinely worried about Sehun. The younger never opened up to anyone nor talked about his feelings. And that was bad, really bad. Especially when you work on hard and shocking cases and see so many corpses. It was only normal to express how you feel about it, whether it was sadness or anger, or frustration. Even though he knew Sehun for a pretty long time he still couldn't succeed in making the boy open up to him. And that's why he always made jokes around him. Jokes can always make your day better.
"Oh, come on. You can't say that you didn't miss me~ After all, you haven't seen me all weekend!"
Hearing that, Sehun stopped typing once again and looked at the older boy, kinda surprised. That wasn't the answer that he was expecting. He thought the older had something to say about work, cause that's the only reason why Juwon would get out of his workplace.
"You can't be serious… Do I really have to examine a corpse and get the reports ready to come to your office?"
Sehun just shrugged and got up, walking over to a small desk in the corner to make some coffee.
"And just what did you expect from me? You never really come here, not even when you have to give me the reports. You make ME go after them. I still don't appreciate it."
Juwon just laughed and gladly accepted the cup of coffee and smiled. This is what he loved the most about the younger. Call him cold, rude, or distant, maybe all that and even worse, but he was actually caring...at least with him. And even if they weren't blood-related, Sehun was like a little brother for him. He was taking care of him in his own way.
"Complain all you want, you know that's something that's never gonna change. And you can't blame me! That's the only way I can make you come and see me."
Shrugging, Sehun took a file from the desk and handed it to the older. Once Juwon saw what was written in the top corner he already knew what he had to do and left the office without saying a word.
Sehun sight and thought once again about the file he had just given to his friend. It was their most recent and shocking case he was working on. It was about a serial killer that killed 3 people that weren't connected in any way. It was obvious that person was a professional since not a single clue could be found at the crime scene so he hoped Juwon was gonna find something useful he could work with.
Usually, cases like this don't really bother him since he would catch the criminal quickly but there was something different this time. Ignoring the fact that the victims didn't have any connection, serial killers tend to follow the same process each time they kill someone. But not this one. He murdered each and every one of his victims in different ways. The only thing that proved that the same person was behind each murder was the "q&k" signature that was made on different parts of the body with deep cuts.
But whoever was behind should enjoy his freedom for as long as he can because one thing is for sure:Sehun is gonna catch him and make sure he's gonna rot in jail.
