Lightning lit up the room, a loud thunder accompanying it a little while after. It’s not like him but since he woke up he used the weather as an excuse to work from home. LIke that he didn’t have to deal with a still pissed off assistant. Can’t he just get over it? It’s been 2 days after all…
And don’t get him wrong. He is not the type to run away from people or problems. But the older had the worst timing possible. Just thinking about it made him sigh and throw himself on the sofa.
He could deal with many things. He could deal with an annoying assistant, he could deal with him talking nonsense most of the day, he could deal with having someone following him like a puppy during his working hours or whatever but he could not deal with someone who is being nosy about his personal matters. They are called ‘personal’ for a reason. He wasn’t going to let a stranger know about his problems and issues. That’s too much… at least for now.
It’s not like he trusted the other. What’s there to be trusted about him? Getting over the point that he is a complete stranger, it was just weird and suspicious the way Chanyeol walked in his life.
His new car suddenly stopped working on a desert street with nobody but the raven around. A raven that didn’t seem surprised, not to mention his weird behavior. And after their interesting conversation… boom! The elder was in the same office as him. At this point everything about Chanyeol was weird.
So damn weird.
A loud knock made Sehun’s eyes open from their rest. He wasn’t expecting anyone. Frowning, he got up from the couch and with slow and silent steps he made his way to the front door, grabbing his gun from a drawer before looking through the peephole.
When he saw the person standing in front of the door he growled and rested his head against the door, sighting tiredly. What the hell was he doing here?!
Twisting the door knob he opened the door and raised an eyebrow, obviously not that happy with the unexpected visit.
“Hello to you too Sehunie~ I missed-”
“Shut it. What do you want, Kai?”
“Ohh~ Why so rude? You make me feel sad.”
Sehun leaned against the door frame, looking with cold eyes at the other.
“You’re funny. Do I actually look like I give a damn about your feelings?”
Kai’s smile dropped, his lips now in a thin line. He didn’t look really happy with Sehun's answer.
“Don’t cross the limits. You know that I don’t like it.”
Sehun only smirked and crossed his arms.
“What are you gonna do about it? Huh?”
“Yeah, what are you gonna do about it?”
Sehun’s eyes widened as he heard that calm yet somewhat deep voice. He looked behind Kai, only to see Chanyeol dressed in his usual black suit, so simple yet so attractive somehow.
Kai frowned and turned around, almost bumping in the raven. He was confused. He thought he already met all of Sehun's friends back then. The other never even talked about him.
“Let me ask again…If Detective Kim crosses the limits, what are you gonna do about it?”
Kai couldn’t help but frown even more. Even though this guy was smiling, his stare sent shivers down his back and his tone was hella creepy.
Since when did Sehun start hanging out with people like him?
“Don’t get involved. It’s none of your business so you can get lost.”
Chanyeol's eyes visibly darkened. The only one who was allowed to boss him around and have an attitude with him is Detective Kim. Of course, Minjun could always be an exception but oh well…
Slowly but surely, Chanyeol got closer to the mortal and leaned over him, his face right to Kai’s ear, who shivered and didn’t dare to move an inch.
“You are a nobody. You are just a mere mortal. You have no right to talk to me like that because it makes me angry and you don’t want me to get angry. “
Kai gulped hard, and wanted to take a step back, visibly shaken by the tone and the choice of words, but fingers wrapped around his elbow, holding him so tight he could swear it was going to break a bone.
But you see…There’s another thing I can’t tolerate and that’s you disrespecting Detective Kim. If you disrespect him…you disrespect me.”
And the devil smirked. He could hear the loud and fast heartbeat. He could sense the fear. He could feel the distress. And he loved all of it. He enjoyed it but could you blame him? It made him feel powerful, feeding on his ego continually.
Slowly, Chanyeol took a step back and made eye contact with the detective.
Oh.
He was expecting a somewhat similar reaction from the detective, after all his behavior wasn’t his usual. But to his surprise…a pleasant one by the way, he saw him with his usual poker face, still leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed against his chest.
“If you’re both done, you can leave-”
“Detective Kim, it’s not fair! You can’t do this to me~And you certainly can’t avoid me for the rest of your life. You know you need me.”
With every phrase Chanyeol got closer to the detective, pushing the other mortal in the process, making sure he knew where his place was.
Sehun just looked at him as they were standing face to face and sigh, rolling his eyes as he turned away and stepped inside. Chanyeol’s lips lift in a smile when he saw the other didn’t close the door, waiting for him to get inside.
With his usual confidence and smirk, he looked over his shoulder, a aura of superiority radiating from his body and with that he followed the other inside, slamming the door in the other’s face.
At that point, Kai was fuming. He was so angry. Who the hell did that guy think he was? The devil?
“This is not over yet! We’ll see each other again Sehun!!”
After making sure he left, Sehun sighed and let his body fall onto the couch, letting it embrace him. Embrace…he couldn’t remember he was held by someone. And he wasn’t talking about a hug… hugging and holding someone were two completely different things. And he couldn’t really say hugs were something he got often. Just from time to time, that’s why they helped him relax so much.
“Detective Kim~”
Shit.
He was so distracted that he forgot about the other. With an annoyed sigh, he opened his eyes and looked above his head, his eyes meeting the raven’s black ones. They stared intently at each other, without saying a word. They were just looking. They were somehow admiring each other.
And weirdly, it wasn’t awkward, as it should have been when 2 people stared at each other for no reason. Maybe from a third perspective it just looked strange but it somehow made sense for them. It was like the perfect opportunity to admire and observe.
The first to snap out of it was Sehun, who cleared his throat and got up from the couch to make his way to the kitchen. Chanyeol chuckled, finding the reaction adorable and followed the mortal with lazy steps.
“Well that was interesting”
As soon as the devil entered the kitchen, Sehun turned around and sighed for the nth time that day.
“Why are you here?”
“Of course because you let me in, Detective Kim. You know I wouldn’t dare to go against your word”
Oh, the detective wanted to erase that smirk off his face so badly but he had to keep it together. He needed to do so.
“Stop playing dumb. You know what I mean.”
Chanyeol’s smirk dropped and his face was suddenly serious, any trace of playfulness gone.
“Why did you come here in the first place?”
Honestly, he wasn’t in the mood to deal with the other. Sehun was more than aware that his behavior was absolutely ridiculous . He also knew that he exaggerated and that the older wasn’t at fault as he just tried to do his job. But he hoped the other would have understood him as well.
He was more than aware of his reputation and all those humors about him and his personality. Damn it, some people even started to question whether he was human or some kind of evil creature or something. And sure, he doesn’t really care what other people think, but sometimes it was too much.
Getting close to people and letting them get close to him wasn’t something he could just afford so easily. And nobody tried to look past his mask even once. No one bothered to ask about the reason why he behaved that way. He had his own reasons…Reasons nobody tried to understand or simply see.
That’s why he was better off on his own. It was easier.
And now his boss messed that up. Yeah, sure, the director did it with the best intentions. He always respected Sehun and his abilities at his age. He came so far and got where he is now on his own, without anyone's help. So getting the younger an assistant to help him with the paperwork was the least he could do. Thanks to the detective, the department had its reputation so somehow everyone felt in debt with Sehun somehow.
Chanyeol sighed and took a seat at the tall, black marble isle. Seeing Chanyeol so serious was so weird.
“We need to talk.”
