“Okay, so… I have to admit that Detective Kim was right.”
Everyone looked at the director expectantly. Since this case became a big deal because of all the attention it gets from people on TV and on social media, the director decided to have a meeting with only the people already involved in the case, not wanting to make a bigger deal out of it. He didn’t decide to join because he wasn’t trusting Sehun’s abilities to handle the case but rather because he thought that there couldn't be many chances of that being the reason for the whole kidnapping.
But it turned out he was wrong after talking to the blond, who studied the case for hours.
“Detective Kim, please tell them everything that you told me an hour ago about the case our victim worked on.”
“In 2020, Ming Sang worked on a really important case. A 12 years old girl was raped and almost got killed by Nam-gil, 25 years old male. He almost got away but luckily the girl recognized him and Ming Sang found really important and valid evidence and Nam-gil was sentenced to 20 years of prison. Of course, the girl’s family was happy about the results but we can’t say the same about Nam-gil’s family. They were angry and upset but there is one particular person that really got the attention of the media. We are talking about Si-U, Nam-gil’s older sister. She went crazy after the judge announced her brother’s sentence and had to be restrained by several people. She kept on yelling about how she was going to get revenge and make sure Ming Sang would pay for what he did.”
The director stood up and fixed his tie.
“I’m not going to lie, I was a little bit skeptical about it but after talking to Detective Kim and hearing his theory, it makes sense.”
Juwon raised his eyebrows and looked at the director and then at Sehun, obviously waiting for an answer.
“I think Si-U kidnapped Ming Sang as revenge for what he did to his brother. At first I also thought that it’s a little bit weird since every time something like this happens they usually want to take revenge on the family. So I watched the footage from the court and all the threatening was directed at our victim. In conclusion, I’m sure the kidnapper is Nam-gil’s sister.”
Haneul crossed his arms and leaned back in his seat.
“I remember working on a similar case. Sadly, it took too long to find the place where that lawyer was kept at and he was already dead by the time we got there.”
Juwon patted his shoulder and squeezed it a little bit in order to comfort him.
Sehun only sighs before looking at him with determination.
“That won’t happen again. I remember when you talked to me about that case. You had no starting point and everyone was doubting that possibility. But now we do have a starting point. Before coming here I had one of the officers look for her information and track her down. And we were lucky. We’ve got her address and it looks like her phone is there too.”
Haneul’s face visibly lit up and got up from his seat.
“Does that mean-”
“That means that we are going to her house right now. I already e-mailed you all the details. Haneul, you pick one officer to accompany you and Chanyeol, you are coming with me. There are more officers waiting for us outside, ready to go so let’s not waste any more time. And Juwon… you should come along in case we find a corpse or something. How about you go with Hnaeul?”
Juwon agreed and seemed to be excited to get out of his laboratory.
Everyone made their way outside without saying another word and the director smiled, having a proud look on his face.
“This is definitely the best team in our department.”
Within two minutes everyone was in the car, with the GPS on and talking about the information the blond shared with them. While in the cars from behind, everyone was discussing, in Sehun’s car everything was quiet. The detective was driving while Chanyeol was catching up.
“Detective Kim, can I ask you something?”
“Go ahead.”
“If she wanted to take revenge so badly, why wait 2 years to do it?”
Sehun looked at him for a few seconds before looking back at the road. To his surprise, the raven was already looking at him.
“She was sick for a year and half. You would know that if you paid more attention to the reading and wouldn’t have looked at me every 10 seconds.”
Chanyeol blinked before smiling and unlocking his phone.
“Alright, alright. I’ll do it properly this time.”
Sehun looked at him again and shook his head.
“What do you want exactly?”
Chanyeol happily stopped reading and focused all his attention on the blond.
“How did you know that I wanted something?”
Sehun scoffed before rolling his eyes.
“I’m a detective, you know? It’s kinda my job.”
The raven laughed before turning towards Sehun.
“Maybe I was expecting you to tell me about the information you passed us and not make me read it like you did with the others.”
“Hm… In other words, you were expecting to receive a special treatment.”
“Yeah, something like that.”
“And why would I give you a special treatment?”
“Because I’m your assistant so I kinda deserve it?”
Sehun raised his eyebrows and just rolled his eyes again.
“You are asking or you know it?”
“I KNOW IT!”
“Yah!”
The blond quickly covered his right ear before looking angrily at Chanyeol.
“You don’t have to yell!”
Chanyeol pouted and looked at his lap.
…
Eh?!
Chanyeol?
Pouting?
That never happened before!
“Si-U, female, 26, has a boyfriend that is being interrogated right now. She dropped out of school at 16 and started working as a waitress at a cafe in the center but switched her job to another one 2 years ago when she found out what cafe Ming Sang used to go to get his coffee every morning. So we can confirm that even though she was sick she still took her time observing our victim until she knew his routines, the people he talked the most to and even who his colleagues were. Although I can’t say for sure why she decided to act now, she is definitely not in condition to do much physical effort. In other words, she might have kidnapped him but she’s in a weak state. To Ming Sang’s luck, she won’t be able to do much. She’ll probably starve him, maybe hit him a few times and just watch him suffer.”
“And for how long is she gonna keep up with that?”
“It usually lasts at least for a week or so. It really depends on the satisfaction she feels seeing him in that state.”
“Have you worked on a similar case before like Haneul?”
Sehun frowned and looked at Chanyeol for a second, realizing that, at some point, while he was talking, the raven got closer to him.
“No, I didn’t. Why are you asking?”
“No reason. You just know so many things even though you are so young.”
The blond raised his eyebrows and sigh.
“I’ll take it as a compliment.”
Chanyeol grinned and looked at him with a confident yet somehow challenging look on his face.
“You should!”
