Sehun and Chanyeol quickly parked the car and walked to the door, followed in seconds by Juwon, Haneul and some other officers. But just as quickly as the blond started to walk towards the door, he made everyone stop. With a frown he looked at the house again and stepped forward, not letting Chanyeol follow him.
The door was slightly opened.
The blond turned to look at Haneul and signaled him to look at the door. The other’s expression quickly changed and nodded slightly.
In a low voice, almost a whisper, he turned to the rest.
“Chanyeol and Juwon, you wait here. You are not allowed to come in unless I give you permission to do so. I’m going in first, Haneul will follow me and I want 2 officers to cover us.”
The raven visibly got angry, not liking his decision. He wasn’t going to leave his side knowing that the detective could be in any kind of danger.
“But-”
“No but. It’s an order Jeon.”
Everyone froze when they heard Sehun call him that.
The blond was hella serious.
Wanting to avoid a possible fight, Juwon agreed and rested his hand on the raven’s shoulder to calm him down. It obviously didn’t work but Chanyeol was too focused on Sehun to even protest.
Within seconds, the blond was at the door with Haneul in front of it and two officers behind them, ready in case something was about to happen. Haneul and Sehun looked at each other, making sure they both were prepared.
The blond wasn’t going to lie, he was a little bit nervous as he had no idea what could be on the other side of the door but he had to control himself. Showing any time of negative emotion could affect the team’s response and behavior.
Still, his heart was beating extremely fast, his head was pounding and the muscles in his body were tense.
And none of that went unnoticed by the raven, making him wanna follow him even more but he knew he couldn't. The only thing he could do was watch him and be ready to interfere in case he was needed, the frown on his face still being present. He was supposed to stay by the detective's side, not anyone else.
Closing his eyes for a second, Sehun took a deep breath and looked at Hnaeul, raising his left hand for a countdown while holding his gun with the right one. The other immediately paid attention to him, ready to follow orders.
Three.
Two.
One.
Haneul kicked the door wide open and Sehun immediately stepped in, holding tightly onto the gun and paying attention to his surroundings. Just as he was about to identify himself in case there was someone in, everyone heard muffled screams from somewhere in the house. After exchanging a look, Sehun and the others separated, each one taking a room while the blond took the basement.
As he was walking down the hall and towards the stairs the noises became louder and louder. Walking faster, he quickly got in front of the door that, to his surprise, was unlocked. Slowly, he turned the door knob and pushed open the door, ready to shoot anyone who would try to harm him. But the only one to be found in that basement was their victim, Ming Sang.
Quickly putting his gun away, Sehun untied him and removed the material covering his eyes and mouth. Seeing the scared look on the victim’s face, the blond reassured him.
“It’s okay. I’m detective Kim and I’m here to take you home.”
Hearing the word ‘home’, Ming Sang couldn’t help but start to cry and grabbed onto the detective’s arm. Not being used to having physical touch and especially with strangers, Sehun could only look at the man who was clinging onto him and at the door, hoping that someone would come and take Ming Sang off of him. But to his disappointment no one was going to follow him to the basement and the man was clinging onto him even more.
Feeling awkward, Sehun slowly raised his free hand and patted his back. He wasn’t dumb. He knew damn well how traumatizing the situation could be and that Ming Sang needed comfort and someone to be there for him. But Sehun was not the right person to do all of that. Quite the opposite, nobody should go to him when they need comfort. The detective was pretty sure that instead of making them feel better he would somehow manage to make them feel worse.
After what felt like forever for him but were actually less than 2 minutes, he finally heard footsteps and turned around seeing one of the officers that accompanied them.
“Detective Kim, we looked everywhere. We found Si-U unconscious on the ground. She… She tried to committee suicide after she killed her neighbor. But truth to be told, the neighbor's death looks like an accident.”
The blond nodded and looked at the man that was hanging onto him like his life depended on it and motioned the officer to get closer.
“Take this man out and make sure he gets attended by a doctor. Looks like he has quite a few injuries.”
After looking at him one more time, Sehun sighed and patted his back one more time.
“And make sure to never leave his side.”
The officer nodded and with great difficulty he managed to make the man let him go.
The blond immediately stepped away and walked to the door, looking back one last time before walking up the stairs. On his way to the first floor, where he was told that the corpse was, he told the other officer to let the others in.
When he got there he saw Haneul already examining the corpse.
“What do we have?”
While asking, he put on his gloves and stepped closer to have a better look at the woman lying on the ground.
“Her name is Susan Hills, 34 years old, married and judging by the pictures she has in her wallet she either doesn’t has kids or she doesn’t love them. Her body is still warm so her death is recent.”
Just as he was done talking Juwon entered the room and got straight to work while looking at his friends real quick, making sure they were both okay. When Sehun was about to say something they all heard heavy footsteps basically running to that room. And just as he guessed, it was Chanyeol who started making questions as soon as he saw him but stopped on his track when he saw blood stains on his sleeves.
“Detective Kim! What happened to your arm? Are you hurt? I-”
“I’m fine. Not my blood.”
His answer was short but just enough for the raven to relax and breathe normally again.
The blond looked at him for a few seconds and turned around, trying to focus his attention on Haneul who was telling Juwon what happened. He still felt weird seeing someone who was not Juwon or Haneul so worried about his well being so he’s first reaction was trying to avoid interacting with the other.
“Sehun-ah, it does seem to look like an accident but I would still like to do her autopsy just to make sure there’s nothing weird going on. By the way, how is Ming Sang doing?”
“He’s fine. Obviously he’s scared and got quite a few hits that left injuries but he’ll be okay. What about Si-U?”
Haneul put on an annoyed face once he heard her name and crossed his arms.”
“She’s on her way to the hospital. She swallowed a lot of pills but the doctors said that her state is not that bad actually. They will have to do surgery tho. That woman is definitely crazy. Why would she try to commite suicide?”
“Guilt.”
Sehun stated it as that was the most obvious thing.
“She was feeling guilty after Susan’s death. Judging from Sang Ming’s injuries, she never intended to kill him. And the neighbor’s died because of an accident that I’m pretty sure was provoked by her. She couldn’t have lived with the thought that someone died because of her.”
People started to come in and out of the room and at the very end, only him and Chanyeol were left in the room.
Chanyeol glared at Sehun, who was still avoiding his gaze and walked to the door, closing it so no one would interrupt them.
The blond was visibly confused but didn’t say anything, knowing that he’ll explain himself.
Oh, and he did.
“Detective Kim… We need to talk.”
