Thanks to his excellent sense of smell, it didn't take Ullric long before he found his dead man's private room. With a first aid box in his hand, Ullric stood in front of Lulla's door. The man was trying to figure out how he could get Lulla to let him in after their encounters had always ended in failure before.
Just as Ullric finally mustered the will to knock on the door of his mate, the door suddenly opened from the inside. The figure of Lulla, who had just finished bathing, came out from inside. Just like Ullric, her face looked surprised when the girl saw Ullric standing in front of her bedroom door.
Lulla had just finished putting on her clothes when she suddenly felt the need to open the door to her room. It was an unfamiliar feeling that she had never felt before. But, in the end, Lulla opened the door anyway and faced Ullric directly.
All forms of unrest and discomfort immediately disappeared when Lulla inhaled the strange scent emanating from Ullric's body. The girl's brow furrowed. Though unlike before, Lulla did not immediately reject Ullric's presence this time.
"I came to check on your condition."
Ullric took advantage of Lulla, who was not immediately rejecting his presence, to speak to the girl. The man's face was nervous, as his eyes pleaded with Lulla not to reject him this time.
Lulla stood silently, watching that expression, and finally opened her door wide for Ullric to enter her room. For some reason, Lulla felt she could not refuse Ullric's wishes this time. After all, her body did hurt in some parts. Lulla was too stubborn to go to the infirmary and reluctant to listen to her brother's nagging. So, just for this time, Lulla was willing to let Ullric into her room.
"Sit wherever you like. You can give me the first aid kit. I will treat myself."
After listening to Lulla's words, Ullric subconsciously held the girl's arm. His expression looked serious, as he replied to Lulla's words in a somber voice.
"Let me help you."
Perhaps because Lulla was wearing short clothes, Ullric could see the bruises lodged on his mate's body. Although Lulla did not seem to have been injured too badly anywhere, the bruises alone were enough to make Ullric's blood boil. Ullric struggled to contain his feelings, as he tried to speak softly to Lulla who began to furrow her brow again.
"I won't do anything strange. Please, I'm just worried about you."
Lulla fell silent when she heard Ullric's plea. Now, she knew why her first brother could change so much when the man had found his mate. The power that held the pair together was truly mysterious. Lulla had only just met Ullric today. Despite that, Ullric continued to act like they had known each other for a long time. The man treated her well, even though Lulla had been rude to him since the beginning of their meeting.
When she winced in pain from the bruises she had sustained, Ullric would automatically come to her with the medicine she needed. The man's worried gaze looked so sincere that Lulla was a little overwhelmed by it.
In the end, the girl did not have the heart to refuse Ullric's request. Her demeanor softened a lot when she finally sat down next to Ullric.
"I will expel you immediately if you act strangely," Lulla threatened seriously. Ullric nodded obediently. On his stern face, there was a smile that looked very charming. Lulla was unconsciously stunned by it. But when the girl realized what she had just done, Lulla immediately averted her eyes and sat with her back to Ullric.
In the end, Ullric was forced to treat Lulla in a backward position. Because Ullric was aware that his hands were very rough, the man deliberately regulated his strength so that he would not hurt Lulla's delicate skin. Every stroke was so gentle and careful as if Lulla would be hurt if he was even the slightest bit rough.
Lulla, who sensed that Ullric was always careful with her, involuntarily blushed with embarrassment. To the girl, it felt very strange that someone she had just met was suddenly being gentle with her like this. Ullric's attention could even beat Stefan's attention on Lulla after the man became Alpha and found his own mate.
While Lulla was daydreaming, Ullric began to finish his activities. Ullric gazed with satisfaction at the results of his treatment. Although it was the first time the man treated someone, he could hardly believe that the results could be so good.
Ullric closed the first aid kit box he had brought after he was done with everything. The man rose from his position, obviously not wanting to disturb Lulla's rest for too long.
"I've finished applying the ointment. Get some rest after this. I'll come again if you're still sick tomorrow."
Actually, Ullric did not expect Lulla to answer his words. After all, being allowed to treat Lulla was already a blessing in itself for Ullric. But unexpectedly, Lulla held out her hand willingly this time. Her expression might still look lazy, but the look in her eyes was inversely proportional to the expression the girl had shown in front of Ullric.
"Don't you hate witches? You probably already know from my brother. But my brothers and I actually have the blood of the witches you hate in our bodies. The blood of witches runs strongly in my veins. From your first expression alone, I already know that it must be sickening to be under the same roof as a witch."
Lulla tightened her grip on Ullric's hand before the girl squeezed out the next words.
"If us being mates forces you to be with me, you should stop trying. I don't want to be in a relationship because of an arranged marriage made by the moon goddess."
Ullric looked into Lulla's sad eyes, then regretted his mistake again. He did hate the woman and the witch who had imprisoned and destroyed his pack. But as Stefan had said, not all witches were evil like that. At least, Ullric could tell that Lulla was a good kid, despite her rude attitude toward him.
"Never once did I feel compelled to do any of this, Lulla. I may not like witches, but that doesn't mean I hate them all. I followed your brother, even though I knew he was a witch's descendant. I know he's a good person. And I know that you are a good person deep in your heart too."
Lulla's gaze rose again when she heard Ullric's reply. Her eyes looked straight into Ullric's eyes as if she was trying to find the truth in those words.
"I rejected you at our first meeting and humiliated you in the training room before that. Despite that, you still think of me as a good person?" asked Lulla in surprise. Ullric nodded once more. The man was so sure of his answer because he believed in his own heart.
"I violated your personal boundaries that time. On the second occasion, I interrupted your training with Jorgen in front of everyone. I humiliated you, Lulla. Your anger made sense to me."
Lulla tensed slightly when she heard Ullric's explanation. Even for werewolves, Lulla's anger sometimes did not make sense. Perhaps because she spent her life as a human, human values were much more inherent in the girl's mind. Sometimes, Lulla could not help herself and go against the values of the werewolf kind, who relied on their wild instincts in life. She felt different, so she did not expect Ullric, who was an ancient werewolf, to understand her way of thinking.
But unexpectedly, the ancient werewolf who was usually more like a beast was willing to admit his mistake. The man understood what Lulla was thinking, and was willing to forgive her just like that.
Lulla's feelings began to turn complicated. The girl looked down, not understanding if it was true that Ullric's actions came from his heart and not from being influenced by the fact that they were destined mates.
When Ullric saw Lulla's reaction, the man immediately knew that Lulla needed time to accept everything. Ullric hid the disappointment in his heart, as he flashed a faint smile at his mate.
"From now on, I will try to learn to understand what your wishes are and honor you properly. Don't think about anything else, Lulla. What I did, I did it because I believe we are meant to be together."
After Ullric spoke softly, the man immediately left without saying anything more.
