HE COULDN'T ACCEPT HER AS HIS WIFE

Roderick let go of Elena after a while.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I don't–" Roderick suddenly stopped when Elena pressed her index finger against his lips. He gulped down the rest of his words as a sudden urge to take her finger into his mouth hit him.

'Sh*t', he cursed in his mind. Elena didn't realize his sudden change. She just didn't want him to talk about it, she wanted to know but she didn't want him to talk about it. She wished he would just forget it because she didn't want to see him like that ever again.

Just as Roderick was about to act on his impulses, she backed away abruptly. She acted as if she had been scalded.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.", her voice was extremely soft and her oval face turned red as a blush creeped up to her ears.

Roderick stared at her, mesmerized. He didn't believe this woman could get any more beautiful but he was proven wrong. He just couldn't stop being surprised by her.

"We should get going. We're going to miss our flight if we delay any more.", Roderick said when he snapped out his daze.

"I'm already done so let's get going", Elena replied.

....

Later in the car,

"Can I touch your hair?", Elena's voice echoed in the silently moving car.

Roderick turned to look at her. That was when he realized she had said that in a daze. His thin lips curled into a slight smile.

"Sure, why not?", Roderick said and took her dainty hands in his big ones and placed it on his head. Roderick being an extremely tall man still had to lower his head for her to touched his hair comfortably even while sitting. The moment Elena's hand touched his hair, his whole body relaxed unknowingly. Elena's hand moved, running through Roderick's soft locks.

She curled some black locks of his hair around her finger. His hair was thick, dark, smooth and silky. Her fingers which were covered by acrylic nails somehow moved on his head, massaging his scalp without hurting the tycoon. Roderick was slowly falling asleep.

Elena moved her fingers stealthy, massaging his scalp and curling his locks between her fingers. Suddenly, the driver in front made a sharp curve and the startled Elena immediately swayed and hit her head against the car door. it wasn't a soft hit, it was very hard and made a loud sound that attracted the attention of the other two in the car.

Roderick, who had his eyes closed and barely swayed with the sudden curve, snapped his eyes open and turned to look at her. His gaze which was so cold, it could freeze a person softened slightly when he saw the pained look on her face. He sighed and pulled her closer as he asked the driver.

"What just happened?"

"The person who was in front of us stopped suddenly and I couldn't stop in time so I had to swerve to avoid hitting the car." There was a slight tremble in his voice as he spoke.

Roderick wasn't so unreasonable as to dismiss him for just a small matter but this time the Madam had been hurt due to his careless. He didn't know how Roderick would react and was very worried.

However Roderick didn't say anything else to the driver and instead asked Elena.

"Does it hurt?" His tone was quite icy and Elena felt that if she said it hurt even a little bit, he was going to punish the poor driver.

Thinking this, she bit her bottom lip and lied through her teeth.

"It doesn't hurt at all." She smiled.

For a moment, it was silent as if the God of silence passed over them. Roderick stared at Elena and hummed softly and became silent once again. He sat back straight, closed his eyes and didn't say anything else.

Elena lowered her head but couldn't help but glance at him from time to time, wondering why he became so cold and distant. She sighed silently and also closed her eyes.

It didn't take long for them to finally arrive at the airport. The moment Roderick and Elena got out of the car, they were surrounded by several body guards.

They went in but didn't go through the usual passage. Instead, they were through a special passage for VVIP individuals who owned their own private plane or jet.

It was obvious that the Whitlock family would own a private plane, being the most powerful family in the States. However, what shocked Elena was the fact that they didn't take the Whitlock family plane. They rather boarded Roderick's personally owned private jet.

Standing at the side and looking at the massive metal bird in front of her, Elena simply felt she could never get used to the world of the wealthy. Roderick who had been silent for a long time glanced at her and said lowly in a distant tone.

"Come on. Let's go."

He didn't wait for her reaction or anything and started walking ahead and got on the jet. Elena did same, not complaining about the distance he was putting between them. It really didn't matter much to her.

Even on the jet, they didn't interact much and both did their own things, not bothering about each other at all. Roderick was working on some issues at work whilst Elena made some rough design sketches.

After a while, Roderick glanced at Elena who was scrolling through her phone. Truthfully, he didn't mean to be so cold or distant. He just hadn't accepted this his wife just yet. He had actually made that deal with Cameron on impulse when his parents vehemently chased him to get married.

He realized his mistake immediately but he was a businessman and couldn't say things casually or take back his words easily. His pride was at work and he simply couldn't take back his words.

In the end, Roderick offered Cameron many other choices, clearly giving him a way out. However, who would have thought that Cameron would do easily give up his fiance and for such a small inheritance.

Roderick felt quite disappointed with Cameron and felt it was actually better if the feisty little girl was with him.

Still, Roderick wasn't quite used to seeing her as a wife and instead saw her as someone who he could easily be friends with. Therefore, all this while he treated her as a friend, just with a little more affection.

But Roderick knew he would have to accept her as his wife eventually because this was not a contractual marriage like in those novels. It was a real marriage and he would need to have an heir. Of course he would do need to consummate their marriage and Roderick wondered if it would happen during this week long honeymoon.

Though his body did not resist the thought, his heart and mind seemed to reject it and his chest felt extremely uncomfortable.
