UNKNOWN RING

[3rd Person POV] [Location: Classified] [Spaceship]

A female humanoid girl is practicing barehand combat with three robots inside a training chamber. Sweat is dripping from her light purple skin, and her flaming red ponytail is gracefully swaying with her movements.

"Haaaa!!!" She elbowed one robot on its head, shattering it to pieces. Then she punched through the second one's chest, scattering the mechanical parts.

A fast punch flew toward her...

"Humff!" She swooped down, avoiding the oncoming punch, and tackled the last robot on the floor. Then she threw three quick punches at its head, with enough strength to smash the machine into pieces.

The entire match lasted for exactly ten seconds...

"Che..." She clicked her tongue in frustration. If it was her father, he could have taken down three of these combat robots in less than five seconds. But sadly, no matter how much she tried, she couldn't defeat them in less than ten seconds. Well, this was her fifteenth try.

*Clap!* *Clap!*

"That was... fast," The man watching the girl train clapped with an impressed expression. Then he threw a towel at her, "Last time it was fifteen... Now, it's only ten. Take a breather, Laira. Grab a drink, perhaps." said the man.

"Beat my timer, and I might take up on your offer, Hal," replied Laira indifferently while wiping off her sweat.

"Lady, you got yourself a deal," Hal said with a smirk and started to crack his fingers. He looks kinda arrogant yet confident.

Laira walked out of the training chamber, "Without your ring..." she said with a serious expression as she walked passed Hal and sat on the nearby chair.

Laira was born on the planet Jayd in space sector 112. She was trained by her father, Kentor Omoto, to take over his role as a soldier of the Guardians of the universe, a Green Lantern. Her training was strict with tradition and honor. During her training, she became exceptionally adept at her native martial arts. Throughout his time with his daughter, Kentor never hid the fact that the ruling council of his planet was not doing things the way he would. He saw their rule as weak and disreputable.

After the disappearance of her father and the proclamation by the Guardians that he was dead, she was considered for the post of ring bearer and Green Lantern of her sector.

To complete her training Laira was sent to the city of X'ol on her home planet. Her mission was to put an end to one who had become known as the *Golden Dragon*.

Laira used her formidable skill to infiltrate his Castle. There she made a startling discovery. While confronting the villain, he was revealed to be her previously thought-dead father, Kentor Omoto. Discovering that her father had become a tyrant in X'ol, she was shocked and hesitated to attack him.

While confronting her father, she learned that he was stripped of his power ring and exiled by the council.

Realizing her father endangered not just X'ol but all of Jayd, Laira engaged him in battle, and through her skills, coupled with the teachings of her mentor Ke'haan, she bested the fallen Lantern.

Omoto, defeated by his daughter, asked her to kill him, as honor demanded his blood for what he had done. She, however, refused, and he instead committed suicide.

Her mission completed, Laira returned to Oa angry at the guardians for hiding the true nature of her mission from her. The guardians, impressed with her loyalty and skill, awarded her the title of Green Lantern of her sector and inducted her into the Green Lantern Corps.

She had passed their test.

Laira was known as one of the Corps' fiercest warriors, and her martial arts skills were second to none. She is noted as never looking at her target so that every attack is a surprise, every moment a work of art.

[I don't think I have to explain who Hal is]

Hal and Laira are on a mission to deliver a sealed box to Oa. They have no idea what's inside that box, but the council has joined hands with the Blue Lanterns for this mission. They provided the best ship and assigned ten squads of Green Lanterns and seven squads of Blue Lanterns to escort the object safely back to Oa.

Within another 15 hours, they will reach their destination.

However, things never go as planned.

As Hal was about to take on the challenge, the ship was attacked.

[Booom!] The explosion threw everyone off their feet.

[Energency!]

[Activating defense protocols]

[Yellow Lanterns Detected!]

[Preparing Hyper-Jump]

[Error! Energy reactor damaged!]

Hal and Laira equipped their rings and transformed. Green suits and green energy radiating from their bodies.

"Sinestro!" Hal grumbled in anger, "Get the energy reactor running." He ordered the staff. He looked toward Laira and shook his head.

They got out of the spaceship.

Hal's eyes went toward the ship's hull. The explosion occurred from the inside out.

A traitor!

Hal thought. Knowing Sinestro's cunning methods, he is 100% certain that a traitor is hiding among the allies. But he has no time to ponder on that. He must get the box out of here at all costs. So, he has to improvise his plans...

Somehow...

The Yellow Lanterns have surrounded them. There were hundreds of them, swarming the dark space. Sinestro was silent for the past few years. It seems like he kept himself busy. He found vile and ruthless creatures from all over the universe and recruited them into his Yellow corps.

"Lanterns... Ready to engage... Protect the ship at all cost..." Hal rallied the lanterns for the battle.

Hal had his suspicions when the council became so generous as to offer him their best ship, and after learning about the joint operation, he understood the danger of this mission.

He also overheard the Alpha Lanterns discussing an oncoming threat that would leave nothing but death and laughter on its path and how the council members were acting differently...

He was prepared for an attack...

But this is the worst situation possible. The enemies are more than twice their numbers. And with the energy reactor down, they are sitting ducks. The other ships just aren't fast enough to escape.

Laira summoned two swords made of green energy, but Hal stopped her.

"Laira, protect the box. Whatever it holds, it must not fall in Sinestro's hands," Hal summoned a small square puzzle box from his ring and gave it to Laira, "Save your energy and be ready for my signal. We will hold them back."

"What are-" Laira was about to say something, but Hal flew away. She felt conflicted with her emotions. How could she abandon her allies and run away? But she knows she must not allow the box to fall into enemies' hands. She also knows that sacrifices will be made today. But does she has any other choice?

None!

"Hal Jordan, hand over that ring to me," Sinestro yelled with a sinister smile as he and his corps began the attack from all directions.

The Green Lanterns created a thick round shield around the ship, enclosing them within it, while the Blue Lanterns were focused on boosting the powers of the Green Lanterns.

The Yellow Lanterns lets out an endless barrage of attacks. Even in the empty space, the sounds of the explosions could be heard.

"How long do you think that hollow shell will defend you? Just hand over that ring, and I promise to let your corpses rot in space... Hahahaha!!!" Sinestro bursts out in laughter.

Inside the shield, two Blue Lanterns were boosting Laira's energy,

**In fearful day, in raging night,

With strong hearts full, our souls ignite.

When all seems lost in the War of Light,

Look to the stars, for hope burns bright!**

A vibrant blue light swept over the area...

"Laira, I leave the rest to you..." Hal said with a smile as he joined his ring with hers.

A small green vortex opened...

Meanwhile, all the Green Lanterns began to chant their oaths. The shield around them started to thicken and repair the damages.

**In brightest day, in blackest night,

No evil shall escape my sight.

Let those who worship evil's might

Beware my power--Green Lantern's light!**

"This will take you somewhere safe," said Hal.

"Hal, be careful...!!!!"

Laira was stunned.

"Kugg! Cough!" A red energy blade pierced through Hal's chest. He coughed out a mouthful of blood and pushed Laira into the vortex.

"Hal!!!! Nooooo!!!!"

Fuck! I can't sleep. Let's go out and explore this beauty a bit. Maybe take a nice cold bath.

.

Haaa. The water feels nice and cold. The open sky stretched over my head, sparkling with stars. Man, this is life...

Huh? I rubbed my eyes. What the hell is that? A shooting star!

A green shooting star!
