(Am going to use character point of view from a another story that gave me the idea)
(Joel Point of view)
I held his hand and we both walked down the street. He was a very brave boy and I was surprised he was ready to find his parents. Even if i had to see dead bodies in my daily job I never got used to it. I looked at my map on my iPhone. We were close to the evacuation site it was in a park it seems. We both heard gunfire
"Are we there yet?" Henry asked me.
"Yea we almost there." I told him
"Is the military there?"
"Probably they would be the one to save us and probably a lot braver then me"
"No Joel you're the bravest cop I met." The little boy had a cheerful simile as he looked at me.
"Oh that's so kind of you Henry I bet we going to see a military tank do you love tanks?"
"Yea I love tanks I want to be a soldier when I grow up!" He jumped happily."
I gave him a fist bump and he hugged me.
It was like I forgot we were in a city were their might be a zombie around the corner.
I always made sure not to be distracted in situations like this as we walked we were lucky not to encounter the zombies or infected people and during a crisis like this there was bound to be people who took advantage of this like criminals. As we kept moving I saw some people and they were yelling and were armed with bats and other weapons. They were trying to get past a blockade of riot police. Some were ordinary people caught between the protestors and police.
"SCREW THE POLICE!"
I heard them yell and start to charge at the police. They were idiots for doing that.
"Stay close." I said and looked at Henry and he hid behind me and looked at me. I turned around and went forward. We heard sirens and I saw that are way to the site on the map had be blocked by people fighting the police. I knew that staying here was not good as all the noises and people would attract the local zombie towards are location. I held Henry hand and we both run across the street. I saw many people fighting the police some were armed with knives while others even fought each other for supplies. I ran past some men as they were busy yelling and throwing rocks at the police. This could be bad since I was wearing my uniform but it seemed they did not notice or cared much. On the good side this could mean that the site was near because of the police being here. As we ran we saw In front of us people starting to running away from the infected a few fell and were eaten alive. I heard their screams of pain and unhuman grunts and growls of the zombies.
"Damn it!" I quickly looked around for an escape or a place to hide then I saw a store and I knew it was probably are only shot for survival. I held Henry hand and we made a dash towards the store. I let go of Henry and he climbed over without hurting himself from the broken glass windows. I turned and protected him from anyone. I could hear the police radio. "This is the Menlo police department, please clear the streets and return to your homes, a city wide curfew is now in effect under the authority of Menlo police department, This area is under quarantine return to your homes now. I thought and realized that the place we were in was now a white zone because of the zombies and that the police would not allow anyone to leave the area to do This would be a problem I thought to myself.
I hear a zombie growl looking up at me after eating someone. I got my pistol and aimed it head. It charged towards me ready to bite. I fired a single shot to its head yet somehow it was still alive but how could it be alive I wondered. The second shot to the head took it out and I jumped inside the store.
Me and Henry then went behind the counter and hid as we saw some infected run past the store and attack the protestors. Since we were surrounded I covered Henry and we stayed in the store and both watched as the infected attacked people. Soon the police started to move up and come towards the store. Seeing that I decided we should not get seen by my fellow officers as they may stop us from getting to Henry's parents.
"Let's get moving."
"Alright."
"Get your knife ready in case something happens and also check my back and tell me if anything is behind us."
We ran out of the store and away from the riot. I saw dead bodies and their eyes started to become white like the infected. Luckily there was an ally way and we both went to it and ran. We were safe for now.
