First week

El’s POV

After a long and grueling first day I was curled up on the couch with a good book and some reality tv show playing in the background on the Tv. I was in desperate need for a calm and eventful afternoon.

And cue, a loud bang from the front door announcing baileys arrival.

“As dramatic as ever.” I comment, putting my book down after dogearing it.

“I hope you don’t expect any less.” She smirks, and plops down on the one and only armchair.

“What are we watching?” She asks chucking her shoes towards her bedroom.

“I wasn’t really watching.” I said nodding to the book on the table, “You interrupted my reading.”

“Oh, don’t stop on my account.” As she said that she picked the remote up and cranked up the volume to supper unnecessarily loud.

“Yea I will continue.” I reigned my fear and quickly asked before anything else was said, “Did you see Tobey today?”

“Yes, on my first class actually.” She looked at me with tired eyes, summing up this whole relationship. Tobey was her high school sweetheart who she planned to stay with the rest of her life but well it seemed life had other plans which were not the best plans so far.

“How was it?” It has been months since they broke up, but his presence was a toll I don’t think she can so easily bare, he drained the life out of her most times. The fact that she is still joyful still surprises me.

“It wasn’t as bad as I’d expected, and Al being there really made it easier. I was basically hiding beside him the whole lesson and when we were done, I dragged him out of that class as fast as my feet and the crowd were willing to take me.” She tilted her head over the armchairs headrest and said, “If I had to talk to him, I would have bolted out of that class without a doute.” She let out a long sigh making her whole body shudder, the effect he still had on her was the thing that infuriated me the most. It wasn’t fair at all.

“This is a good start.” I said hoping she could feel less daunted at the mere thought of talking to him, they’re gonna have to eventually look in each other’s eyes and hash things out. And I don’t want her to feel as if she couldn’t take it or him.

“Yea, well that’s until he decides he wants to talk again, which is probably not to apologise but to ask if we could get back together. And then he will practically beg, and I will definitely feel guilty because the whole population thinks him an angel and I am so so sure like a hundred percent sure, he will do something public because he is always on the run for attention. And looking like the picture-perfect prince charming, I think the whole population wont bat a single eyelash even if he was dragging a dead body right in front of them.” She finished her little rant slightly out of breath. “Let’s change the topic to a better one, how was your day?”

I decided not to push her as it looked like she already pushed her mind enough and said, “Not bad, a little boring actually.” I said recalling what I did today in my brain, “Oh I am in same class as Lil though, so that was nice.”

“How is she? she seemed to have disappeared from insta and Al says she is getting a little woozy because of the wedding planning and all that shebang.”

“That’s as much as she said, she did look exhausted. The amount of family in each side is overwhelming to say the least. If I was her, I would have fully combusted by now.”

“I feel infinitely older, we’re literally talking about weddings and a toxic relationship like thirty-year-olds.” She laughed in a hysterical way which I couldn’t help but join in on.

“Okay to detox I am going to order in pizza, and we can watch part which of harry Potter?” I ask getting up from the sofa and heading towards my phone on the Tv stand.

“Definitely part four I need some good distraction with some trials and ball room dancing.”

I nodded and ordered from our nearest pizzeria.

After a much need marathon of harry potter four, five, six, seven and eight the doom and gloom of earlier had been replaced with a debate of if the books were better than the movies.

“I see your point but c’mon you can at least appreciate their close attempt. I can see and still feel the magic and hominess of Hogwarts through the movies. You can not deny that.” I explained with so much passion that the stale tea I was holding was jolted by my movements, spilling a little bit on my blanket that I dragged from my room.

“I somewhat do appreciate it, but you must see after reading the book I expected the movie to be play by play.” She held up her hand when I was about to start my defence, “ep ep ep, I know that some of the movies are close to the same as the books but I emphasis some because the last books were seriously tampered with and let’s not forget the disaster that was Ginny.”

I couldn’t argue with that one, “Yea they did mess that one up real bad. Since I first watched the movie, I truly wasn’t expecting them to end up together. I was so scared it was going to be a love triangle and that their friendship would be ruined, I was seriously relieved but still confused about Ginny.”

“I pity you because you watched the movie first. You missed out big.” She said with mock pity in her eyes, a hand over her heart.

“Get over it, I don’t regret it. It is still the best childhood memory, there is nothing you can say that will make me change my mind.” I was not going to lose this war of the books are better than the movies, in indignation I raised my nose into the air, probably looking like an ostrich.

“If you’re willing to stay delulu no one is stopping you dear old friend.” She said in a sing song voice.

“Ugh. I hate you.” Sticking out my tongue for emphasis, I got up from my comfortable position to get to my phone that was charging on the tv stand.

“Do you have class tomorrow?” Bailey asked scrolling trough her phone.

“I had one but let me check if the teacher is available or not.” After a moment of scrolling through my emails I yelled, “yesssss. No class tomorrow. I know its just the first week but reading those words will never stop being music to my ears. What of you Ms bailey.”

Smiling at my accent she said, “Sadly I have one in the afternoon. But we can do something till then hopefully.”

“I cannot think of tomorrow while I am this sleep deprived and half-drunk from it.” Grabbing my blanket from bailey who let out an offended “hey” I went to my room and yelled, “Goooood night bay.”

In which she yelled back, “Bad night El.” And chucked a pillow at me which missed the mark when I slammed the door.
