El's POV
I woke up at nine in the morning feeling extra disoriented.
“For someone who doesn’t drink you look like you have a hangover.” I jolted towards the door and looked at my uninvited guest, and that would be Al, with a coffee in hand.
“What a great surprise.” I said sarcastically and got out of bed snatching the coffee out of his hand not caring if it was his or not.
“You don’t look so good.” He always had the uncanny need to point out the obvious.
“The exact words I crave to hear when I wake up everyday.” I sighed dreamily.
“I know. That’s why I said it.” I rolled my eyes taking a sip from the cup, I need it apparently. “And for more important info, you should stop drinking its not a good color on you.” He finished with a cheeky smile.
“Ha Ha very funny.” I gave him a glare that said otherwise, “We slept like at 3 in the morning.”
“What kept you up so long, were you studying or doing drugs. I don’t advice y’all to do either.” He was all energy today, the exact opposite of me.
“Instead of keeping tabs on what we are up to or not why don’t you go help Lil with your wedding preparations. She clearly needs help and you clearly don’t have anything to do.”
“I don’t think she wants me around those things. She said fuck off so may times I lost count.” He sat on the bar stool with a disgruntled look.
“I guess you had some pretty bad ideas.” I said pulling out eggs to make some breakfast.
“Seems like it and she prefers my moms ideas over mine. I don’t know if I should take offence.”
“You should, she is obviously marrying you for your mom.”
There was a knock at the door, I looked at Al in confusion, who was getting up to open it.
“That must be my dear old fiancé.” Al said and opened the door to an exhausted Lily.
He took the grocery bag she carried and pecked her on the mouth. “I didn’t know you were going to the store, I would have come along.”
“Last minute decision, I needed to grab some sweet things.” She said as she was trying to squeeze the life out of me. Yes she does give the best hugs of all time.
“I didn’t know there was something special today.” I pointed towards them and the bag.
“Biley said you were all alone at home so, I recruited us, the best entertainers in the circus.” She twirled and twirled until she got dizzy. Al went and grabbed both her arms and sat her down on the sofa.
“Entertained?” He asked, bowing at her supposed performance.
“Very much so.” I was, “Do you want any breakfast Lil?”
“Why didn’t you ask me?” Al demanded
“You didn’t do your job as well as she has. And I didn’t want to.” I smiled with great delight.
“Do better next time.” She patted his hand in mock pity. “I would love that, I’m hungry.” She got up coming behind the kitchen island. She grabbed the bag she brought and brought out the cake mix and cookie dough. “Ready to get sick on sugar.” She said with a feral grin.
“Hell ya.”
For a few hours we made a cake, one batch of cookies and cupcakes, while eating the pancake and eggs I had whipped up. We talked about our old high school friends, our new classes for this semester, the people Liy doesn’t want to invite to her wedding but has to, if Al is going to ask Lily’s brother to be one of his grooms’ men. Now we sat down Infront of the Tv watching the real housewives of Beverly hills, it was crazy entertaining. Al and Lil sat on the bigger sofa cuddled up together while I was third wheeling on the single sofa near the Tv.
“C’mon, Marrion had it coming, she always sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong.” They all do but I want to hate on at least one of them.
“Yea, I see it too. But this time its serious, they’re claiming her husband of fifteen years has cheated on her without real evidence. Have some sympathy.” Lily argued, bright eyed with determination.
“She hasn’t said foul things herself?” I find that rich people problems are always fun things to argue over.
“No, she has not.” Lily said in indignation.
“Oh please, she told Marrisa she had an ugly child in the delivery room.” I was ready for battle.
“She wasn’t wrong.” Al chocked on air at that statement looking at his fiancé with bewilderment.
“See Al gets it, even if the baby isn’t the most beautiful kid In the world you keep it to yourself. Right Al?” Throwing Al under the bus is also a fun time for me. Lily swerved her head to him.
Al gulping a little said, “I didn’t say anything. Elainey is just crazy.” He gave me a pointed look when Lily turned to me with a smug look.
“You little shit, you know Marrion is foul just say it!”
“I am not involved in this discussion.” He kissed Lilys cheek detangling their limbs and as a peace offering asked, “I’m getting some cookies anyone want more?”
“Yes please. Oh and water.” I said momentarily forgetting his betrayal. “No, thanks” Lily said turning her attention back on me as he left.
“Cease fire.” She said, “We’re gonna need Bailey for this, so we’re gonna have to cease fire.”
“Okay agreed.” I said, readying more reasons for my cause.
Al came back with two cookies and a glass of water in hand, “Okay that’s some progress.” He said as he handed me the cookie and water. “Lets talk about anything else that wont turn in to a brawl.”
Just when we were about to settle in and continue watching the show, Bailey burst into the apartment.
“Hey guys.” She said clearly exhausted from the stairs.
Me and Lily grinned at each other like psychopaths and turned to Bailey as Al let out an exasperated sigh. Bailey looked from me to Lil to Al with confusion. Then Lily, Bailey and I sat for almost an hour dissecting bits and pieces of information of those people to identify who was right. Bailey listened with rapt attention. And the last verdict came. I won.
“Since you guys are done, can we get out of this house we’ve been here all day.” Al all but grumbled, while we were having this debate he looked lost as a puppy. On his phone then bored then in the kitchen, leaning on the fridge eating some cake looking at us with despair and then washing dishes and lastly he took a book from our tiny bookshelf and sat at the kitchen island to read. Putting the book back on the bookshelf he got up and walked to lily pulling her off the sofa.
“Why y’all in such a hurry?” Bailey asked as she got up grabbing her things as I followed suite. I went to the kitchen grabbing a plastic bag and shoved some cookies and cupcakes for them to take. I handed it to Lily and checked if everything is turned off and went to my room to get my going out coat.
From the other room I heard Lilys muffled reply, “We have to get somethings for home and go to his moms house after.”
I reemerged from my room as everybody headed to the door, “So where to?”
“To the supermarket near campus, middle ground for us both.” Al said rapping his arm around Lilys shoulder.
We went down the four flights of stairs and to the quite stream of people on the roads. Most people here were college students but with the occasional old people and teachers well of the ones I have seen, there are plenty I have not encountered just yet and hopefully I won’t. We walked the cobbled stones for about twenty minutes before we reached the supermarket. There were cars in the parking lot sparsely spread out, I hope the inside is as desolate as the outside. We walked in with Al and lily leading the way as Bae and I followed, I have suggested that they should adopt us officially ,they have declined.
Thankfully there isn’t much traffic inside as well just a little line at the register and some people as far as my eyes can see.
Lily turned to us making us halt abruptly, “Meet at the register in 20, yea?”
We both nodded and headed to our favorite section of this store, the pet toy section. It was our dream to get a cat or a dog, the cat more only me, but even in that shithole of an apartment, it isn’t allowed.
“Since I’m definitely going to have a pet in two years time, we have to start picking his/her toys.” I informed Bailey picking up a ball that squeaked.
“That one won’t be the one I will be buying ever.” She said picking up a toy that looked like a bone. “This is the safest choice. And of course, the tennis ball.”
She looked over my shoulder and before I could see what she was looking at she said, “Go long.”
I started to run backward with as much speed as I could garner raising my hand to catch the ball, when she took more time than she usually does.
I was about to yell for her to hurry up when I crashed into someone’s back. Both of us falling to the floor. I looked at Bailey stricken with shock only to find her with a smug smirk, that little rat.
I turned around to apologize, and was face to face with eyes of sapphire, I came short but he didn’t as he stood up and gave me both his hands to help me up. Taking his hands I stood up as well but was still short on words. It was café guy.
