NO HOPE

~TWO WEEKS LATER~

Arriving at the throne hall, the messenger knelt and held out a rolled parchment to the King. "Your Majesty, I bear news from Allore."

The king's advisor received the letter and hastily unrolled it, his eyes moving quickly as he read the contents.

"What did it say?" King Kaiser demanded, drumming his fingers impatiently on the arm of his throne.

The advisor glanced at the King, whose face was filled with hope and anxiety. He hated to be the one to break the bad news and crush the King's spirit.

"Your Majesty, they confirmed the princess left on the agreed date. They even provided her with additional guards to supplement her protection. The princess's betrothed sends his heartfelt sympathy to you, Your Majesty, and he immediately deployed a search party to track the princess after receiving word of her disappearance."

The King sagged in despair.
