A LONG NIGHT

"Wait." Lifting his arm from my shoulder, I gently pushed Luca against a tree so he could lean on it while I went to check out the cave.

"Lena—"

"Just wait here for a second," I said, before dashing to the cave. For all I knew, it was a home to wild animals, and I had to make sure it was safe before bringing Luca there.

It was a small cave, more like a hole in the rock, and it only reached up to my chest. The vines hung over the opening like a curtain, and I gingerly pushed them aside. It was a little wider inside, and it was empty, thank heavens.

I rushed back to Luca and caught him just before he could sag to the ground. He wasn't looking good at all. His face was paler than before, and beads of perspiration dotted his face despite the cold weather.
