Yuna sat down on the edge of my bed, her hands shaking as she held the gun. "Jack, there's something I need to tell you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm not just a social media influencer, I'm an agent for another country. Emma came to me a few months ago, telling me about what had happened to her at the hands of Tom and his friends. They are all the sons of powerful politicians, and she knew that no one would believe her if she went to the police. She begged me to help her, and I was so jealous of her that I did nothing. But now, if you try to do anything, they will kill you. You have to let this go."
I felt a wave of anger wash over me as I processed what she was saying. "You mean to tell me that you knew about this all along, and you did nothing to help her?" I asked, my voice barely containing my fury.
"I'm sorry, Jack," Yuna said, tears streaming down her face. "I was so caught up in my own jealousy and my own job that I didn't see what was happening right in front of me. I should have done more, but I was too scared. Emma was my friend, and I should have been there for her."
I couldn't bring myself to forgive her, not yet. But I knew that I needed to find out the truth about what had happened to Emma. "I'll let this go," I said, my voice cold. "But only if you tell me everything you know. I need to know the truth, for Emma's sake."
Yuna nodded, wiping away her tears. "I'll tell you everything I know," she said. "But you have to promise me that you'll be careful. These people are dangerous, and they won't hesitate to hurt anyone who gets in their way."
As I sat there in shock, listening to Yuna's confession, a million thoughts raced through my mind. I couldn't believe that the woman I thought I knew, the woman I had been in a relationship with for over 4 years, was actually a secret agent from another country. The thought of Emma being raped by Tom and his friends, all of whom were sons of powerful people, made my blood boil. I couldn't understand why Yuna would have let this happen, why she would have stood by and done nothing to help her.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I couldn't," Yuna replied, her voice heavy with emotion. "I was afraid of losing you. I was jealous of the relationship you had with Emma, and I didn't want to risk ruining it. And when she came to me for help, I was too scared to do anything. I didn't want to jeopardize my own safety or the safety of my mission. I'm so sorry, Jack."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Yuna had let Emma down, had let her be raped by those monsters, all because of her own jealousy and fear. I felt a wave of anger wash over me, but I knew that now was not the time to lash out.
"What do you want me to do now?" I asked, my voice steady despite the anger I felt inside.
"You need to let this go," Yuna replied, her tone firm. "If you try to do anything, you'll put yourself in danger. You need to move on, Jack. For your own safety."
I stared at her, my mind racing as I tried to process what she had just told me. I didn't know if I could let this go, if I could just walk away and forget about what had happened to Emma. But as I looked into Yuna's eyes, I knew that she was right. I couldn't put myself in danger, not when there was so much at stake.
"But what about Emma? What about justice for her?" I asked, my voice filled with frustration.
"I know it's not fair," Yuna replied, her voice filled with regret. "But the reality is that these men are too powerful, too connected. If we try to go after them, it could put not only ourselves, but also our families and friends in danger. It's a risk I can't take. I'm so sorry, Jack."
I sat there, trying to absorb everything Yuna was telling me. I knew that she was right, that going after these men would put us all in danger. But I couldn't shake the feeling of injustice, of knowing that Emma's rapists were getting away with their crime.
"So what do we do now?" I asked, my voice filled with resignation.
"We move on," Yuna replied, her tone softening. "We mourn Emma's passing and honor her memory. We make sure that her death is not in vain. And we make sure that we never let something like this happen again."
I nodded, knowing that Yuna was right. I couldn't change the past, but I could use my skills as a programmer in the AI department to make a difference in the future. I would make sure that Emma's death was not in vain, that her memory would live on through the work that I did. And I would make sure that I never let something like this happen again.
With a heavy heart, I turned and left the room, not knowing what the future held for me or for those involved in this terrible situation.
