029: Taming The Wolves

Before long, the wolves stopped what they were doing and sat obediently.

"Yuck! Now I'm all drenched like a rat." Arthur wiped their saliva from his face.

"Let me help you with that master," Hui Ying casted combined fire and wind spells. Soonly, a series of blue and red lights climbed from the base of his feet to the top of his head.

Compared to the priest who used all the fancy words to activate one spell, Hui Ying only used a simple hand sign to activate the spell.

Within a brief moment, Arthur's hanfu was completely dried and neat.

"Hmm… you have quite convenient magic, huh? Can you teach me some later?"

"It'll be my pleasure." Hui Ying replied with a bright smile.

It was a wholesome moment for them, however, the beasts of the wilderness were returned from their cover as the situation settled down.

"We should move from this place before the beasts realize that the fight is over and attack us."

"What about these kids? We can't just leave them here." Hui Ying pointed to the unconscious young couple.

Frustrated, Arthur ruffled his hair. "What a dead weight! Hati… Can you help me by bringing those kids with you?"

"Leave them to me, master." Hati gently grabbed them by their collars with her fore teeth.

"How about you, Skoll? Can you keep up?" Arthur was quite worried about the latter's wounds.

Skoll slowly stood up, "This is nothing. Don't mind me. Let us go."

"Good," Arthur nodded.

Arthur whistled aloud to call his warhorses. Before long, Guan Ning and Guan Yu galloped down from the valley's hill with an incredible speed, Ming and Yin's horses followed after them.

The sky behind them was getting darker, a sandstorm was about to come as howling winds could be heard in the distance.

For the next hour or so they weaved through the desert. Luckily, they found a natural medium sized cave where they can recuperate themselves and sheltered there from the sandstorm.

Arthur dismounted from Guan Ning's back, and scanned the cave as a precaution if there were any ferocious beast that dwelled inside the cave.

'Appraisals!'

The system scanned his surroundings. Luckily, there was only a nest of dog-faced rats and about tens of bats hanging on the ceiling.

Those bottom fodder of the food chain scurrying around and ran deep into every nook and cranny when the scan wave was in contact with their skin.

"We will be safe here for the time being," Arthur says confidently.

Hui Ying soon prepared a small bonfire with her magic, enough to warm their body from the frigid weather of the desert but not too bright either to prevent any unwanted visits from the beasts outside the cave.

"Put them near the fire," Hui Ying spoke to Hati, and the wolf beast obeyed.

She was indeed quite a cunning fox demoness, however, her tender heart couldn't let her ignore any wounded living beings on her watch.

"Master, may I heal them?"

Arthur was reluctant at first, lending help to an insignificant individual was not his style after all.

Hui Ying soon prepared a kettle to boil some herb and concocting a potion to help recuperate.

Nevertheless, Arthur couldn't take that choice from her. "If it's your choice, then  so be it. I trust you."

Hui Ying nodded sincerely and began to examine their bodies coarsely.

As much as he wants to lay down his back, Arthur couldn't wait to form a contract with the two wolves. However, he was also curious about them.

Arthur sat cross legged at the corner of the cave to give her some room.

"Skoll, Hati… come here."

The wolves approached him, sitting obediently like a puppy.

"What is it, master?"

"Lower your head,"

As the wolves lowered their heads, Arthur ruffled their fur.

"How long have you been in this land?"

"We have been waiting for hundreds of moons for this moment!" Skoll and Hati talked almost in unison since they shared one mind.

Arthur was intrigued by their statement, "Wait, hundreds of moons? Which means, you guys have been around in this timeline for decades already?!"

"Hundreds of moons is not that long, at least for us."

Arthur was even more confused at this point, beast and human had a way different sense of time perceptions.

He glanced at Hui Ying who's still nursing the young couple. 'Does Hui Ying also have a different sense and time perception?'

Arthur could only imagine what it would be like to live in seclusion for hundreds of years.

"So… both of you were reincarnated as mere cubs and sent to this timeline by Tenshoro?"

"Yes, more or less. But that doesn't matter anymore since we've reunited, once again after long arduous waiting." Hati laid her chin on his lap, demanding a handful of head pat.

"She's right, master. Past and Future, however, is just about a perspective, depending on which side you are looking at." Skoll added.

Arthur was utterly terrified and also thrilled at the same time upon realizing the power of the gods who were able to control the timeline like redirecting the flow of a running water with just a fingertip.

"Come off it, "do you wish to renew our contract?"

Hearing this, the wolves' ears perked up.

"Yes, master!" The wolves raised their forelegs and thumped the ground merrily.

"Okay, hold still."

Arthur's palm shone brightly, the immense heat soon stung his skin. He placed his palm on its head, a wolf-like stigma slowly formed on both of his upper arms as if it was tattooed to his skin.

A few minutes later, the contract was successfully done, Skoll and Hati also underwent a drastic change.

The color of their fur became more vibrant and shiny as a series of lights danced in a circle around their body.

Soon, the system rang with cheerful ringtones and showed all sorts of information in front of his eyes.

Arthur was intrigued.

"Unique beasts? There's no Unique Rank before, is this a bug or something?" Arthur tapped the holographic button at the bottom.

[Unique Beasts: A certain type of beasts that had been tamed by the previous beast masters throughout history]

From this clue alone, Arthur was taken aback upon realizing what Hui Ying said previously.

'Beast Master indeed existed a long time ago! And there's possibilities more Unique Beasts are still alive given their long-life expectancy. If they ain't being hunted in the first place, that is.' Arthur muttered inwardly.

"Incredible!" Skoll wagged his tail joyously. "I never felt this much power before!"

"You are right, brother! It feels like I could hunt every prey in this area for an instant!" Hati did the same as her twin brother.

Just about they finished the contract, Skoll and Hati felt dozens cultivators'  presence not so far from the cave.

"Master, I sensed multiple hostiles approaching us." Skoll's goofy face turned so fierce, he bared his teeth, growling ferociously.

"Hmm… I know."
