Chapter 33: Master of None

The ground comes up at me in a rush of pain, and I grit my teeth against the impact.

“Again,” Dad says from behind me. I growl at him, but he remains rigid and stern.

I stand up and pick up the fallen practice sword. I know, right? Why the hell would I need to practice fighting with a sword when we have things like guns. Well, I’ll tell you why.

Apparently, Nathan has some witches on his side that can produce some pretty powerful shields. However, those shields are only effective against high-velocity projectiles, such as, of course, bullets.

Arrows have a chance of getting through the shields, but it’s a risky and useless effort. Therefore, we will need to have ground forces carrying the only thing that can push through the shields, swords.
