The Vampire Michael

Deja let out a small sigh of relief, before continuing her journey of finding Neculai. She found him with a woman sitting in his lap rubbing his shoulder lightly while he had an arm draped around another woman who sat next to him as he fed on her. Deja couldn’t believe she had risked everything to save this playboy vampire from his own demise, just to find him here like this. Well, what was she expecting really?

Deja called Neculai. Neculai was lost in the here and now. He vaguely made out someone calling him. He reluctantly pulled himself away from the delicious morsel next to him.

When he looked up, he meet the mahogany and very angry stare of the last person he thought he would see. She stood like an avenging angel shooting daggers at him. He dropped his head back against the seat he sat on.

“Neculai, I need to speak to you.” she huffed. Neculai lifted his head, and held her look with his eyes as he closed the small pinpricks on the woman's neck, who sat next to him. He whispered to her and she stood and walked off. Smiling slightly he lifted a hand indicating for her to sit where the woman had once occupied.

She slide in next to him and gave a pointed look at the other woman in his lap. “Really Babe, you are killing all my fun.” He turned to the woman and bade her goodbye. The woman stood a pout on her lips. She was about to speak, but Deja cut her off.

“Leave, Now!” She stated forcefully. The woman looked startled, and turned to Neculai who shrugged, and then with one last angry look she stormed off. He cast a surprised look at Deja. His finger started playing with one of her braids.

“Wow, you really are interesting, if you wanted to spend a little time with me you should have told me.” He said with a crooked smile. She rolled her eyes and knocked his hand away from her hair.

“Listen, I came to warn you the Order is coming here, tonight.” She hastily explained. This got his attention and he was all ears. “

“I had a dream, and in my dream, I saw them find you.” She stopped herself from finishing telling him what she had really seen. His death. His smile dropped and he gave her all his focus.

“That’s not all you saw, is it?” He asked. She wanted to lie to him, but she knew it wouldn’t help. Her visions and dreams usually came true. He stood up, grabbed her hand, and lead her through the throne of vampires milling about.

“We have to get out of here!” Deja yelled over the noise of the people drinking, laughing, and music that was blasting from the state-of-the-art sound systems the club had.

“Not yet, I have to find Michael.” He said in frustration pushing past vampires who were dancing but slowed down to stare at Deja as he pulled her alone behind him. A vampire approached, stopping Neculai and pushing him in the chest.

“Why are you off in such a hurry Neculai? Why don’t you share her with us.” An associate of Neculai’s grinned nodding towards her. Deja watched the vampire, he didn’t scare her, mainly because she could see what Neculai would do. Her gift she had always believed was a curse, but now she could see the value in knowing what was going to happen before others did. Still, she tried to warn Neculai.

“Neculai we don’t have time, they are here.” She exclaimed, she hoped she didn't sound panicked. Neculai pushed the vampire aside.

“Not this time Marcus.” Neculai pulled Deja along behind him only to have Marcus grab Deja by the arm stopping her progress. “Neculai, they're entering the building!” She shouted over the music. Neculai turned faster than she could see and ripped Marcus’s heart out of his chest before turning and whizzing Deja out of the room with him.

“You smell, you shouldn’t have come here.” He stated as he grasped her to his chest. He speeded up pulling her even closer within his arms.

“Excuse me!" she exclaimed pushing at his chest to be released. "I do not smell. I shower twice a day since I was a kid, and sometimes three times a day if I am in the mood.” She stated with a huff after realizing she couldn't break free of his embrace. A door leading to the hallway loomed before them. Neculai had the door open and pushed her through it before she knew what was happening. He glanced back at the closed door once, making sure no one followed them before turning back to her. He cast her an exasperated glance before grabbing her hand and pulling her along behind him.

“I don’t mean you smell, as in stink. I mean you smell, like food.” He looked back over his shoulder at her then smiled.

“Delicious food.” He grinned. She frowned.

“Well you can stop staring at me with that sinister look, I am not food for you or anyone else here.”

“Hey, I didn’t say I was particularly interested in your scent. Don’t get me wrong I can see what the vampires are responding to, but it’s not for me. I have a certain scent I love and sorry but you don’t carry that for me.” He shrugged and continued on. They stopped at each door along the long corridor as Neculai poked his head into each room. Deja didn’t say anything. She was a little put off that he wasn’t slightly interested in her scent. Yet she couldn’t put her finger on why. She should be grateful that he didn’t think of her as his late-night snack, but instead, she felt a little letdown. She yanked on her hand, and he held it tight in his grasp.

“You can let my hand go, I don’t care to be yanked around.” She said. He didn’t respond but he dropped her hand.

“I must find Michael, he was heading back here when I saw him last.” He replied. Finally, the last door on the left Neculai opened, and he came to a sudden stop. Then he entered, and she followed him into the room with the solid thud of the door closing behind her.

“You are a hard man to find, Michael,” Neculai stated. Michael set in a chair reclining back smoking a cigar.

“Yes, well the party is great, the guest is great, food is delicious.” He stated kissing his fingers in the French salute before continuing “I thought I’d relax away from everyone, while I congratulate myself on another party well done.” Neculai walked over to stand next to his chair where he reclined.

“I’m surprised, you wanted to be away from your party. I remember a time when that was the last thing you wanted to do.” Neculai stated eyeing the room around them. Michael blew out a smoke ring before replying.

“That was long ago buddy.” He spoke quietly. Deja got that tingling feeling that always overcame her just before a vision would come on. Neculai didn’t notice her pause. He carried on his conversation with Michael.

“Listen, Michael, I need to know exactly why The Order wants me dead?” He asked. Michael looked up at him with a small frown hovering above his eyes. Clearly, he was confused. He shrugged before adding.

"Is that all you needed to know?" He cocked his head to the side and watched Neculai carefully. Neculia nodded, however, Deja leaned forward.

"Also, Jovian's connection with the Order," She added. This was the first time that Michael seem to notice her presence. He turned towards her and looked her over carefully before replying.

"So, you are the psychic I have been hearing so much about." He smiled softly at her. She shrugged. He had a nice smile, perfect white teeth, and even a dimple at the corner of his thin red lips, still, she felt negative energy surrounding him. His smile made her feel like she was staring into the face of a hyena. She would watch him carefully.

"Maybe," she said with a forced smile. Neculai watched her a soft look settled in his eye as he watched her. He almost appeared as if he was fighting a smile as his lips begin to tip upwards but was forced back into place by the stern look that settled in between Neculai's brows as he turned his head away from Deja and back to Michael.

"Why would the Order want you dead, Neculai? From My understanding it would seem everyone at that event is being hunted by The Order. " He replied picking up a clear liquid in a tumbler sitting next to his chair on the table beside him. Neculai nodded as he looked over at the man still sitting in his chair. He had known Michael for nearly a century and yet he felt he didn't know him at all.

"You're right, but I get the feeling with me, it's personal," Neculai interjected. Michael was quiet. Deja watched him for any signs of distress or nervousness. However, he seemed totally calm.

"Well from what I heard. There might be an actual reason why they are after you." Michael paused and took another sip of the liquid in his glass before sitting it back down before he continued. Neculai nodded and waited for Michael to continue.

"You see there is a tale that you are not all you seem." Michael cocked a brow and watched Neculai carefully. Neculai in turn frowned.

"What do you mean, 'I'm not all I seem.' What are you saying?" Neculai asked him with a touch of annoyance. Michael shrugged.

"Look don't kill the messenger. You asked and I told you." He said.

"Yeah, I know and I appreciate it, but still what does that mean?" He asked once again.

"Word got back to Vulcan and the rest of the Order, that you are not a vampire but something else altogether, What does that mean? I haven't got a clue." Michael finished off. Neculai was stunned. This was the first time he heard of something like that directed towards him. He knew he didn't always fit in with the vamp society, but no one ever question if he was a vampire.

"Why would they believe such a bizarre story?" Deja asked the vampire relining in his chair who regarded them curiously, before continuing.

“Jovian?" Isn’t he the new Order member?” He asked. Neculai nodded in affirmation.

“Well I don’t know, you know I don’t know everything about everyone.” He declared but he seemed uneasy as he spoke. Neculai nodded with a clear focus on Michael a little more intently than before.

“Michael you’re sure you don’t know anything?” He asked. Michael shrugged.

“I don’t think I know anything but if I do think of something I could tell you later.” Neculai nodded. He appeared calm on the outside, but Deja could tell Neculai was anything but calm.

“Hey Michael, did you say you already heard about the party and about Deja at the event before I mentioned it to you?.” He asked." Michael frowned but nodded his head in the positive.

“Yeah, she came out on stage with Vulcan.” Neculai stated. Michael’s head twisted back her way. He seem to have been trying to ignored her ever since she came into the room with Neculai.

“Yes, I did hear something about a mortal woman with a ‘certain gift’.” He mumbled.

“Yes, good I’m glad you heard of her. You see she is helping me to get to the bottom of some really unsavory stuff.” Neculai cast a look at Deja.

“Maybe she can help you remember if you had any information pertaining to Jovian’s home that could help us.” He said, sounding helpful, as he looked with more interest at Michael.

“Do you think you can help with this issue concerning The Order?” He asked, turning his head and watching her. Michael also watched her.

“Of course.” She said as she approached the nervous-looking vampire.
