Twenty Seven: discovering the truth

A few hours later, Marina arrives home and her mother is waiting for her. She hugs her tightly, kisses her on the forehead and says:

-I'm glad you're back. Now, no more lies and misunderstandings, everything will be fine.

-Don't worry about it, Mom, everything's fine.

-Now I just need to transfer you back here. I hope that won't be too difficult, but let's talk about good things first.

The two smile and after the girl says goodbye to her brother, they go to the living room and spend the whole afternoon watching movies on Netflix and eating popcorn with chocolate. Miguel arrives a few hours later and joins them, all happy because he finally has the girl's company in his life. Everything was quiet when she received a message on her cell phone:

"Love, have you arrived in Nova Friburgo yet?"

"Yes, I arrived a few hours ago, but I didn't have time to tell you."

"No problem. Tomorrow, if you don't have any commitments, I'll pick you up so we can go to the square."

"Okay. I'm going to bed now, because I'm tired from the trip. See you tomorrow."

She gets off her cell phone, eats dinner and then goes to her room to rest. The girl knows that she now needs to be more patient with her mother, as she is expecting a baby, and also talk to her boyfriend more, even if she doesn't want to burden him with her problems. She chooses to listen to a song on her cell phone, putting it in random mode and playing the following song: Não Desista by singer Nayara Yamamoto and singing some parts without realizing it:

After finishing listening to the song, she decides to send a message to her lover saying:

"Thank you for always trying to understand me. I know I don't deserve your love for me, but I'll try to be better for you. I need to understand that life isn't easy for anyone and that I can't just run away from my problems as if that would somehow solve them. I'm lucky to have you in my life and I'm grateful for that. Have a good night and I'll see you tomorrow. Kisses."

After a few minutes she receives the following message:

"Don't worry my princess. I love you and I understand your reasons. Everything will be fine, don't worry. Try to get some rest and I'll see you tomorrow. Good night."

Marina decides to get off her cell phone, grabs a thick blanket from the closet and falls asleep in a few minutes.

Marina is walking down the street with her boyfriend when she sees Diego talking to a girl. He doesn't see her and continues talking to a woman with long curly hair. The girl seems a little afraid to talk to him. Only one thing is heard: the two of them talking. At first their words don't seem to make sense, but when the boy pronounces the name Lucas, she decides to come closer to find out:

-You know, Diego, if he finds out about our plan, we're lost.

-Take it easy, he thinks he's the father of your baby and he really deserves what he's going through, after all, who told him to meddle in my life?

-I know, Di. That girl won't stay with him, just over my dead body, but I don't think she'd forgive him even then. Poor thing, she really thinks she's going to stay with him. I just wish Lucas would see that I'm the one who loves him, not that stupid girl.

-Take it easy, after all, you can't stress yourself and besides, the two of you don't even talk anymore and this was the only way you could stay together. Let me deal with her.

-What are you going to do?

-Nothing, just stop them getting back together.

Marina wakes up startled from her dream and, without a second thought, sends a message to Lucas:

"Lucas, it's me. I know it's a bit late, but I need to ask you something important. Is this child she's expecting really yours? Because I have a feeling that this is all a lie so she can hold you back."

She didn't get an answer by text message, but soon he called her:

Lucas: What did you say? Do you really think she's cheating on me?

Mari: Yes, I do, because it's very strange for her to turn up out of the blue and tell you she's pregnant with you, don't you think? You've already thought about the idea of it being some kind of set-up by your cousin, after all, he was always trying to pick a fight with you.

Lucas: I'd never thought of that. Are you still in Fribourg? I heard you'd moved.

Mari: Yes, I am. I'm going to school tomorrow and we'll talk there. Bye.

She hangs up her cell phone with her heart in her hands, afraid of what might come next. What if her dream is a warning that something very serious is about to be revealed? She knows she could be in a lot of trouble for having said it, but there's no going back. All she can do now is go to sleep and wait for what will happen the next day, but little did she know what she was getting into by telling Lucas.
