Alice watched the clock carefully waiting for the seconds to go by wishing that they were minutes since she was once again in her homeroom class with her teacher going on a rant.
Normally, then, all the students would get announcements for the day, but in reality, there truly wasn't enough content to fill the hour period.
She shuffled her papers since she had finished the work that she was going over before her next classes and placed her phone in her lap when it went off with a buzz. Claudia smirked over at her, and Alice raised an eyebrow wondering what was so funny.
Alice was about to mouth a few silent words when the teacher got their attention once more barking out orders. She swung her eyes over to the teacher as he was going off again about changing behavior that he had been seeing throughout the school.
The tangent of the lecture was about how despite the students becoming adults, they still had to abide by the academy rules. He seemed extra irritated today, and Alice looked down at her phone that she was hiding in her lap before thumbing through the notifications.
Mr. Baird was a balding man in his sixties who had nothing better to do than nag at his students who were his punching bags. Alice sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose since the homeroom teacher wasn't letting up at all. Everyone was literally all zoned out in the back.
Alice had a sweet young lady as her homeroom teacher for the last two years when she first came to the academy but in the summer of Alice returning for her last year, Mrs. Joyce gave birth to her baby and decided to not come back to school to take care of her newborn despite the board office giving her maternity leave.
She hoped that Mrs. Joyce was doing well with her new kid, and Alice leaned her head on her arm that was propped up on her desk. Mr. Baird came in to fill the role that Mrs. Joyce had left, and that was how she got a new homeroom teacher for her last year.
Not that she would ever say that or point her thoughts about the teacher considering that out since everyone had different gifts, but it was a good thing that Mr. Baird only watched quiet study periods and the homeroom class.
Claudia tapped the side of her desk to Alice's attention, and Alice looked over at her wondering what was up. Claudia was scribbling something down on her lined notebook paper before painstakingly tearing it out careful to not draw the homeroom teacher's eyes in their direction.
Alice discretely pointed down in her lap with a smile knowing that it would have been much more convenient to text but went along with Claudia's shenanigans regardless since it was quite harmless.
Tossing the crumpled note over to Alice's desk, it landed with a little clink, Alice raised her eyebrow at the old-fashioned move and grabbed the paper that was deciding if it wanted to fall off the desk or not to open the small crinkled note to see Claudia's familiar flowery handwriting that spanned no more than a few sentences.
I heard that there's going to be a fun project for the homeroom class.
Alice tilted her head after reading the message as it piqued her curiosity. She pulled out a lavender-cased pencil out of her pencil bag and wrote down a response on the paper before she tossed it back over quickly.
Oooh, that sounds interesting. What are the details?
Claudia quickly unfolded the message and scribbled out an answer. Alice read the message that said:
I don't know, but Carissa said something about how the rest of the day will be excused.
Alice gave Claudia a skeptical glance before mouthing, "I wish."
There was another note from Claudia saying how Claudia didn't want her afternoon classes which Alice could relate to immensely. The afternoon classes always seemed to drag out longer than expected with the hour of work put into them as well.
She stuck out her tongue to mime that she was about to pass out from exhaustion to which Claudia laughed lightly, and Alice smiled in response also wondering what Carissa could be talking about.
Having a little break was something that Alice could definitely appreciate, but it made her wonder what the school was up to now since they were also planning an event or something along those sorts.
The recruitment fair was only a month and a half away, and it felt as though the homeroom hadn't gotten much things done, but Alice found that Madeline was going at her own pace which Alice wouldn't complain about since Madeline was extremely accommodating to everyone's schedules.
But Alice would have to admit that everything was coming along nicely with the promotions being well done along with their float at the final stages. There was still a lot to do, but there was still time to do so.
