Chapter 9: The Little Green Monster

Aurora’s POV

I waited on the mat patiently as Alpha Liam turned his attention from group to group. I felt slightly irritated that he hadn’t yet found me a partner, but this wasn’t like our private sessions. When it was just the two of us there weren’t others around that needed him. His focus could remain solely on me.

“I heard you were looking for a partner.”

I snapped my head away from Alpha Liam to the owner of the voice. The Beta, I think his name was Alexander, stood on the mat. His face seemed more friendly than before when I smacked the cigarette from his hand or when he broke into my old house.

“I’m Alex. The Alpha told me to train with you in the meantime.”

I nodded, unable to say a word as I took my fighting stance. I had hoped deep down that the Alpha would train with me. I wanted to apologize for earlier when I was distracted, but I guess Alex would have to do.

“I’m Dawn,” I introduced myself. He gave me a puzzled look as he took his stance on the mat opposite me.

“I thought your name was Aurora. The pack loves to gossip so I’ve heard plenty about you, Omega,” he said.

I wasn’t sure if that was meant to be an insult or a compliment, but either way, it didn’t sit well with me. Choosing it was best to ignore him, I lunged for him only to have my hand slapped out of the way.

Alex looked at me with a wide grin on his face. He was enjoying his few seconds of glory. I rolled my eyes and assumed my stance again trying to remember what Alpha Liam taught me during training.

“If you just rotate your hips like this, you’ll make more of an impact with your punches.”

Alpha Liam’s voice soothed my mind, his instructions following behind. Until I heard the most disgusting giggle from Jessica. I glanced out the corner of my eyes and saw Alpha Liam with his hands on Jessica’s hips. He was rotating them slightly and she was giggling like an obnoxious hyena.

“Focus, Omega.” Alex’s voice sounded closer than where I last knew him to be.

I felt the wind swipe my face as I dodged Alex’s attack. I ducked under his punch and kicked his legs from underneath him. All the lessons that I had learned along with my undying rage for Jessica began to filter through me at once. I was throwing punch after punch at Alex, who could barely block my attacks.

Alex pushed me at my chest causing me to wince in pain. I had almost forgotten how strong an Alpha and a Beta truly are. Alex went to throw another punch and just like Alpha Liam had told me I used my gymnastics skills and did a back handspring to keep my distance from Alex.

Alex’s smile turned darker and much like the Alpha during our first training session, Alex looked like a predator on the prowl. I was making this his most exciting game of wolf and mouse, and unfortunately for him, I wasn’t planning on going down anytime soon.

“You’re hanging in longer than I assumed you would,” he said. It was my turn to smirk; Alpha Liam had told me about this. He had specifically said that I would be underestimated and that I should use that to my greatest advantage.

“What do you say we call this a match?” I asked.

He shook his head and reached for me. I crouched down and slide between his open legs. I grabbed one leg in my hand and pulled him down to the mat before crawling on his back and straddling him. I extracted my claws from my fingernails and held them to his neck threateningly.

“You move, you die,” I muttered. He chuckled and placed his hands on the mat in surrender. I pushed myself up off his back as a ripple of applause sounded from around us.

A strong set of claps stood out from the others. Alpha Liam was now standing by the pack house doors, pride and surprise swarmed around his eyes. He was proud of me. Now he wanted to pay me attention. As good as the recognition felt I was still pissed that he had ignored me in the first place.

“Good job, I told you your anger makes you stronger and when controlled you could be unstoppable.”

Alpha Liam’s words filter through my mind, and I couldn’t help but smile. He wasn’t ignoring me because he was upset with me. He ignored me because he wanted me to be angry. He wanted to test the limits of what I could do when my anger was controlled. How did he know I would control it?

“No one since the Alpha has ever beat me in battle,” Alex said, taking me out of my thoughts. He was standing beside me with his hands dusting off the pieces of debris that landed on his pants legs.

“There’s a first time for everything.”

“You’re not so bad, Omega. I’m sorry, you’re not so bad, Dawn.”

He smiled and I returned the smile. This was the start; I had earned Alex’s respect by successfully beating him in a fair battle. I had an entire pack to go, but trust from the Alpha and Beta was surely a good start.

Alex patted me on the shoulder before jogging over to Alpha Liam whose eyes remained on me the entire time.

“You made me angry on purpose?” I replied to his mind link and a small smile formed on his face before he started to talk to Alex about something.

“How was I supposed to know you’d get jealous and kick my Beta’s a*s? I underestimated your hatred toward Jessica.”

I couldn’t stop the laugh that left my lips which caused some strange looks from the other wolves around me. I quickly stopped laughing and shook my head at him. He sent me a wink and I felt my cheeks burn; I don’t think I’d ever get used to how attractive he is.

Alpha Liam turned his back to us and went inside the pack house, a pit of loneliness welling inside my chest at his absence. Get a hold of yourself girl, he’s not your man to feel lonely over.

“Alpha Liam would like to send his regards and remind everyone that you all did extremely well today. He’s impressed by your hard work and improvement, and he wants you to keep up the good work. Training is dismissed,” Alex said.

A pout formed on my lips as I walked off the mat, my eyes glued on the door as if Alpha Liam would run out and take me into his arms.

“We need to talk, now.”

Faith grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the pack house. My legs stumbled as they struggled to follow behind her. Faith and I were of the same stature of five feet and four inches, but her legs moved significantly faster than mine. What on earth could she possibly want to talk about?

Once we were farther away from the pack house, she released my arm. I rubbed where she had gripped me and pouted at her. She rolled her eyes at my sad attempt at guilt before she shook her head.

“What’s going on with you and the Alpha?”
