Chapter 17: Talking Business Through Back Massages

With trembling hands, I undid the buttons of my night blouse and opened the shirt. It slid down my shoulders, stopping at the middle of my back. I tried my best to act casual, but this situation really made my mind flood with thoughts from the other night, when he–

“So he was a criminal!?” I asked, trying to sound normal and break the mood. I wanted to turn around but felt Mordecai’s hand touch my hair.

Mordecai didn’t say anything and brushed my hair off my back and onto my shoulders. He now had a full view of my bare back. My heart was beating so hard I’m sure he could see it thump through my skin.

“Who?” Hot air blew against my neck, sending sparks down my spine.

I finally realized how close we were on my bed. He was sitting on the outside and leaning toward me. My back was facing him, but I could see his right knee pulled up next to me. I was basically sitting in his lap.
