Chapter 29: Not Anyone Can Be a Mother

*Buzzzzz! Buzzzzz!*

I recognized that annoying buzz anywhere and used my free hand to swat away the flies circling my head. Opening my bleary eyes, I saw one of my siblings was nestled into my arms. Her little hands were clutching strands of my hair, and despite being four years-old, she was incredibly small.

“CECIL!?”

It was a nail hammered into my skull, piercing every nerve of mine and sending my body into alarm. My sister felt it too and opened her eyes in panic. I quickly shushed her, smoothing her own frizzy hair down, but my mother was still yelling.

“CECIL!? GET OUT HERE!”

She was yelling with the full force of her wolf, which meant she was angry beyond belief. I climbed out of my bed with my sister in my arms and stumbled out from underneath the stairs.
