Shinichi's POV
As I got out of the bathroom's door, a delicious smell filled my nostrils. I stopped rubbing my towel to my hair and followed the delicious smell.
My feet froze to the kitchen's archway when I saw someone's back facing me. She is wearing an apron and her long hair is cascading down her back.
I walk towards her and stopped behind her and looked through what she's doing. She's cooking.
So that's the smell that filled my nostrils.
"What are you doing?" I asked. I saw her flinched and looked at me with her eyes wide in shock. I chuckled as she heaved a sigh while holding her chest. "So?"
"You shocked me," she replied and smiled at me before continuing her cooking. "I'm cooking breakfast. You could sit down if you want. It's almost finished."
I do as what she said. I sat in the chair and wait for her to finish cooking. She put the meal in the center of the table and sat across me.
"Eat," she ordered.
I looked at her before I started eating the food. While eating, I noticed Ran is just staring at me and that's why I realized she hasn't had any plate in front of her nor some chopsticks and spoon.
"Why aren't you eating?" I asked her.
She shook her head. "That's all your food."
I frowned. "Eat." She shooked her head again. "You cooked all of that and you don't eat your own cook?"
"I'm full," she said but there's hunger in her eyes.
I raised an eyebrow. "Liar. Your eyes say it all. Now, eat before you fainted there because of your recklessness. You're thin enough to not diet so eat."
"Hey! You're so mean! My body is alright!"
"I know but still eat. Your body needs it. I guess you've been doing a lot of stress things before you come in here. Your eyebags says it all."
"I haven't slept last night so..."
"Wait, you didn't sleep?!" I shouted that I put the bowl with empty rice on the table loudly.
She yawned as her sleepy eyes looked at me. "Yeah. So what?"
"You shouldn't have come here. You should rest."
"I can't. Yukiko-san told me to take care of you until she came back."
"Wait, speaking of Mom... Where is she anyway? I haven't seen her anywhere? And until she came back? What do you mean by that?"
"Oh, you do not know?" She yawned again. "Yukiko-san told me that she will go to Berlin for some important matters."
"Geez. Why does Mom leave me here? Alone? And why has it to be you?"
"Why?" She gave me a glare. "Don't you want me to be here?" She suddenly stood up. "Then, don't eat the foods, idiot."
"What? I didn't say I don't want you here. But why are you babysitting me anyways? I can do on my own."
"First, I know you're a lazy person just locking up in his own room with his books. Two, you can't cook on your own--"
"Hey! I can--"
"--with nobody's help." My lips formed in a straight line. Well, she has a point. "And third, I can't assure you'll wake up early to do all of this work alone. So, is there now a problem why I'm babysitting you and your Mom ask me to come here? Or I would say I am adult-sitting here because you're now an adult?"
"Now, that's too many accusations, missy. Bring it all back--"
"And why, hmm?" Her eyes turned into slits. "I know very much about detectives and I've never been wrong. I know my father is a drinker and you.." She looked up and down to me. "...well, in a different level of laziness when you have no cases to go to."
"Hey! Stop now!"
"Then. don't call me your babysitter," she replied. "Detectives are good at solving cases. I am sometimes the witness in their not-so-perfect deductions except you of course, but when they have no cases to roll in, they're just sitting on a chair and reading some books about things you read for about a hundred times."
"I said stop now, Ran!" I said and then, I stood up and got behind her. Then, I put my fist to her temples and move it tightly.
"O-Ow! S-Stop, Shinichi! I-It hurts."
"I'll stop if you take your accusations back," I said and still continue of what I'm doing to her.
"I won't! It's true!" she said. Then, my eyes widened as she suddenly held my wrist and stopped my hands. She pulled me and her face is near mine. "I won't because that's what the true traits of the person I love, right? So shut up, idiot," she whispered before she pushed me with force.
I stared at her unbelievably. I scoffed. "Did you just push me?"
"So?" She raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms and legs. "What'cha gonna do?"
I took a threatening step while still looking at her in the eyes. I smirked. "Oh, you really don't know what I'm going to do to you, do you?" I pulled her chin up and leaned my face towards hers, brushing my lips to hers. I heard her gulped. I smirked. "Want a punishment from me, Mouri Ran?"
Ran's POV
He's close. Too close. Oh god. I don't think I could win this game that I started with him. I felt weak right now by just his simple gestures.
"S-Shinichi, you are--"
"What is it, Mouri Ran?" I pulled my face away but he keeps on leaning his face forward. "Hmm?"
"Y-You're close," I replied.
"Jimmy! I'm here!" someone suddenly shouted near the kitchen archway.
Shinichi stepped back and I sat normally quickly. When we looked up, we saw Hayley standing in the kitchen archway holding two plastic bags in both hands.
She puts the two plastic bags in the table and looked at Shinichi. She smiled and walk towards him. She wrapped her arms around his neck. "Hi, baby. Miss me?"
Shinichi looked at Hayley's arms wrapped around his neck before looking with no emotion at her.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I'm here because I brought you your favorite foods," she replied and pull Shinichi towards the two plastic bags. "See it." He did not move, which made me frowned. Hayley looked at him weirdly but she has still a smile on her lips. "See it, Jimmy."
"I'm full," he said. "And who said that you could come inside the house without any permission?"
Hayley scoffed. "Do I need permission, Jimmy? I'm your girlfriend. Of course, I could go in. Do you think of me as a thief or something for you not to trust me?"
"You're just my girlfriend, not my mother so you don't need to be over-concerned."
"Why? Can't your girlfriend be concerned with you?"
"You don't need to be concerned. Rest assured because Ran is taking care of you so I should be fine even if you go."
"Ran? What are you--" She suddenly looked at me. She smiled when she looked at me. What a creepy smile. "Oh, Rachel. Hi. I don't know you're there."
I smiled back. "HI. Not so glad to see you again," I replied.
Her smile faded and she looked at Shinichi again. "So, you're with Rachel the whole time?"
"Yes," he replied soullessly.
"Since when?"
"She woke me up, she put the books back in the library, she cooked for me, and wait for me to finish eating and have a little bit of conversation with me."
She scoffed again. "So, she's here the whole time? Why didn't you called me?"
"Why can I call you if I'm asleep, hmm?" he backfired as he crossed his arms. "And for your information, I didn't call Ran. Mom called her." He looked at me as soon as Hayley scoffed. "Ran, escort her to the gate. Make sure to close the gate. I don't want to see her face for a moment." He faced Hayley. "And Hayley, take the two plastic bags with you. I don't need them. Eat the foods by yourself."
Then, he walked out of the kitchen. Seconds later, I heard a door slammed closed.
"Did you mix a potion on your cook, didn't you?" Hayley suddenly blurted out, making me looked at her.
I raised an eyebrow at her and crossed my arms. "Sorry, but I don't think I could do that."
"Why?" She took one step and we're now an inch far to each other. "Do you think I'm an idiot? I know you love my boyfriend and you're the ex-lover of him."
"Correction: I'm not the ex-lover, I'm still his love. He just forgot me."
She scoffed. "You're feeling happy, aren't you? That you and my boyfriend became close and you are happy to steal him away from me."
"I'm happy because I could spend time with my childhood friend now, idiot," I replied taking a step forward. "And for your information, I'm not happy to steal away your boyfriend. You see, he's the one who keeps on avoiding you. I have no fault for that."
"But you're the reason why he's avoiding me!" She pointed at me. "You're an obsessed attorney woman!"
"Excuse me?" I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "I have no time to accept accusations from my childhood friend's girlfriend."
Her cheeks are now red. I wish I could see smoke coming out of her ears.
"You're really are a psycho!"
"I'm not," I replied and shrugged. "Maybe you are."
"And now you're accusing me!"
"You're the first one who did it, not me." I looked at her with a smirk on my lips. "You see, Shinichi and I are childhood friends. Normally, childhood friends could spend time together if they want to so I'm here to take care of Shinichi from what Yukiko-san's orders."
"Auntie would never do such a thing like that!" she shouted.
"Well, for your information, she is. She has a big trust on me for her son. I didn't know why she didn't inform you about this."
"You're really want to gain points to make Auntie and Uncle notice you, aren't you? You're really an obsessed--"
"Don't talk any accusations again or I could sue you," I threatened her.
"And how could you threaten me? I have no crimes--"
"Oh, I'm sure there is." I smirked. "A secret organization."
She looked at me unbelievably and then, she scoffed. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, Hayley. I'm not called as an international lawyer without a reason and I didn't have the title as an attorney if I don't keep my clients safe and sound."
"W-What are you talking about? W-What do you mean by that?" Her face was now pale white.
I grinned. "Secrets need to unfold. The truth will always appear and light could appear in the darkness. What I mean is, the skeletons in the closet can't be stocked inside any longer, it'll going to let out any second, any minute, or an hour."
She gulped as she looked at me nervously. "Y-You won't do that, aren't you?"
"What will I do? Oh! I could tell Shinichi. Your relationship with him has a crack now anyways."
"Don't touch our relationship, woman." She gritted her teeth.
I smiled. "It's for me to touch." My smile faded and looked at her dead in the eyes. "You're just a temporary lover to him anyways."
"W-What did you say?" Her fist clenched that her knuckles became white. "I'm his girlfriend!"
"I know. A girlfriend that has nothing to do but to beg attention from her boyfriend who did not notice her for the past few years," I replied. "Get out now before I tell Shinichi you're still in here."
"I will not go out without talking to him properly about our relationship."
"You're still trying to fix it, huh? Hmm... Let me tell you this, Hayley. If there's a crack in the glass, you can't just bring it back to its original form. It's sensitive that it might break at any minute."
"W-What?"
"You came to the same university as Shinichi but you looked dumb in my words." I sighed. "What I mean is that don't force something that can't be fixed. Shinichi is avoiding you meaning he had no interest to you anymore."
"Who told you that? You don't know anything!"
"It's noticeable even it is just a couple of minutes ago. I have seen the scene, Hayley, and Shinichi and you have no stable relationship and I think you should not force yourself."
"Why?! You're going to take my position now, huh?" Oopsiess... She's mad.
I whistled. "Not sure if that's the right term, but yeah, kind of," I replied and smirked. "Would you like me to call Shinichi right now?"
She frowned as she looked at me with confusion. "What? W-Why?"
"I will tell him that you're still inside his house and I can't kick your ass out of this place," I replied with a grin. "If you have still a little bit of dignity to yourself, go get the two plastic bags and get yourself out of the house please."
She rolled her eyes. With a heavy breath and heavy feet, she took the two plastic bags and left the kitchen. A minute later, I heard the main door opened and being slammed close.
I smiled as I sighed and looked at the foods left on the table.
I went upstairs and knocked to Shinichi's room. "Shinichi, Hayley is gone now. You may continue eating the food," I shouted.
The door opened and Shinichi appeared with glasses on. I was stunned for a moment. He looks like a teenage Edogawa Conan.
"Oh, sorry. I have to take this off," he said and was about to take off the glasses when I hold his hand and shook my head. He puts it back. "I thought you were--"
"No, no. It's fine. I'm not uncomfortable. I'm just shocked. You looked like a teenage Edogawa-Conan-kun for a moment."
"Oh, really? That's great then." He smiled. "So, shall we go to the kitchen? I bet you're hungry."
I nodded and together, we arrived at the kitchen and eat breakfast together.
