Chapter Thirty-Three: The Last Mission (Part II)

Kaito's POV

"Argh! Damn cellphone!" I throw my cellphone madly at my bed and sighed as I put myself down the bed.

It has been hours since the damn detective didn't call me for help. He said he wanted my help to continue the investigation about his problem on his previous girlfriend yet here I am, still in my bedroom, stuck in being Kaito myself.

"Kaito?" I looked to my bedroom's door to see Aoko holding a tray of food for me. She puts it down the wooden table and looked at me worriedly. "I heard you shouting. Are you alright?"

I smiled slightly at her and looked down. "You see, I wanted to help on that detective I loathe," I said. "But damn, he wouldn't call me! I can't even contact him!"

"How about you call Ran-chan? Maybe she could help you find Shinichi or point where he is at?"

I sighed and looked at her. "I contacted her but the same result happened. I have a really bad feeling about this..."

My phone suddenlly vibrated and I immediately took the call without seeing who is it, assuming it would be from the great detective.

"Oi, Kudo! Why did you call me just now?! I've been waiting for your call so that I could help yo—"

"Sorry, Kaito Kid, but unfortunately, this isn't Shinichi," a voice of a woman came ringing into my ears.

I blinked a few times before looking at the number. It is from the granddaughter of the bastard Suzuki.

I put my phone back on my ear and boringly said, "What is it?"

"Don't be such a boring guy," the blonde woman said. "Anyways, I need your help as Kaito Kid."

"Sorry, my plate is full. I promised Kudo that I will help him with a case."

"This is related to Shinichi's case!" Sonoko shouted through the phone. "Didn't you hear?"

"What did I not hear?"

"Shinichi and Ran has been kidnapped and it is somehow related to that possessive, psycho ex-girlfriend of Shinichi's."

My eyes widened and shot out of my bed. "What?! They have been kidnapped?! How?!"

Sonoko sighed to the other line. "I don't know how. I just talked with the man who attacked Ran earlier. She is probably united with Shinichi now... But I really have a bad feeling that that witch will do something to Ran..."

I could feel her quiver in fear and worry through her words. I gulped a lump of my saliva down my throat as I clenched my fist.

"I'll... found a way on how could I track their location," I said. "For now, focus on convincing the Inspectors to help us investigate this trouble. Also, contact the other detective friend of Kudo. He may help with this case."

"Hmm. Thank you," Sonoko said. "Make sure to bring Aoko-san with you. I don't know if she will be in danger or not but please keep her safety as well. If that damn witch knows that Kaito Kid will be involved, the first target will be Aoko-san."

I nodded. "Okay. I will."

"Then, I'll get going." The call ended. I looked at Aoko who is staring at me with curiosity.

"Who is that?" she asked. "You did mention that they have been kidnapped?" Her eyes widened in fear. "Don't you mean it is Ran and Kudo-kun?!"

I sighed and walked towards her. "Unfortunately, yes. They have been kidnapped."

"We need to save them! I know Ran-san couldn't still remember Kudo-kun but we need to save them both!"

I sighed once again. "I know, Aoko. I know. That's why Suzuki called me."

She raised an eyebrow at me. "The old man?"

"No, the granddaughter. A friend of Mouri Ran," I answered.

"Oh..."

"She said to keep you safe so I'll be taking you with me," I said to her and pulled her towards the hidden room in a picture.

"You're going to be Kaito Kid again?" Aoko pulled her hand away from me. "I thought we're done talking about this?"

Her eyes are piercing through me with flames and her arms are crossed on her chest. I sighed for the third time and went near her, giving her also a stare in her eyes.

"Look, Aoko. We talked about this many times. Yes, I prepared myself to not be Kaito Kid anymore, but we also mentioned to our agreement that I will not also steal things as Kaito Kid," I said. "I will only use my costume—or rather what I inherited to my Father—on safety purposes, which means that I will be just using it in a good way."

Aoko is still not convinced. She averted her gaze into another direction, pouting.

"Aoko, you know the situation, right? How could we determine where is Kudo and Ms. Ran if I don't use my glider as Kaito Kid?"

She stared at me again. "Just use it for now, okay?" She sighed heavily. "Don't just pull me inside this hidden room without telling me you're going to be Kaito Kid again. You know that I hate you being Kaito Kid for a reason."

"But you like me as well being Kaito Kid," I said and blinked.

I could see her cheeks turning red. "Shut up, stupid Kaito!"

I laughed as I went in with her and get ready.

Heiji's POV

I am humming as I stared on the blue sky. I don't know why but I just feel like the sky becomes alone when the sun was covered up by the clouds and a chill down my spine creep through my skin. My mind suddenly asking for Kudo.

"Heiji?" I flinched and looked behind me to see Kazuha wearing a pencil skirt over her knees and a long sleeves crop top. As usual, her hair was bowed up in a ponytail.

"Kazuha," I called out her name.

"Geez. Why are you here all alone? You know that I've been waiting for you for at least an hour outside," Kazuha said grumpily as she sat beside me.

I laughed and looked at the blue sky again, but the clouds are making it look gray.

"Why are you laughing at me?!" she said as she crossed her arms. "You've been late for an hour and you will just laugh at m—"

"Hey, Kazuha..." I cut her off. I could see on the corner of my eyes that she is frowning. I ignored her stare and continued, "Are you thinking about someone else right now?"

"H-Huh?" Kazuha crossed her arms while looking at me madly. "And why do I need to think someone else right now?"

"You don't?"

"Of course not, idiot!" She sighed and sat normally as she gave me a glare. "Why would I? And you? Are you thinking about someone else right now?"

"Yeah. I am thinking of someone else right now."

"Wha—You don't have to be so blunt to me!"

"And why not?" I looked at her with curiosity. "I am just worried."

"To who? To the person you're thinking of?"

"Uh, yeah, obviously? Who else?"

She stood up and raised an eyebrow at me. "Who's this woman?"

"Woman? No, you're mistaken, Kazuha," I said to her as I realized that she is becoming jealous. "It is Kudo that I'm talking about."

Her eyes slowly widened and looked at me unbelievably. "What happened to Kudo-san? Is Ran-san involved as well?"

"Woah, woah, chill, Kazuha," I said and sighed. "I don't know but... I could feel something is up."

Kazuha's POV

I frowned as I looked at my boyfriend. Yes, he is NOW my boyfriend, official for short.

"What do you mean by something is up? You received a notification from Kudo-kun?"

"No. Just an instinct," he answered.

I raised an eyebrow at him. "Just an instinct, yeah, right." I scoffed. There's no time to waste for some stupid instincts. "We should go now. We have a date, remember?"

"But, Kudo-kun—"

"Kudo-kun, Kudo-kun, Kudo-kun! You're muttering him much more than my name!" I bursted out. I could not held out my tears too. It is too much for me to burst out in anger.

"K-Kazuha..."

"Can you just cut off your job as a detective for once?!" I shouted at him. "Are you going to exchange your girlfriend from your damn detective job?"

"Kazuha, you know I have no reason to exchange you," Heiji replied. His eyes are looking with so much sadness. "And I can't just help to worry, right? My brain developed the skills to concentrate on a certain case whenever it has a chance."

"So, you mean your brain is an involuntary system now? Is that how it is?"

"No, Kazuha—"

"Ah-ah-ah! I can't hear anything!" I said as I put my hand to my ears and looked at him smugly. "You know, you should start to use your brain voluntarily without thinking about some certain case."

"Kazuha, I—"

Suddenly, my phone rings so loudly that it cut off Heiji's words. I took my phone out and see who is it. It is Suzuki-chan. I hurriedly answered it and put it on my ear.

"Hello? Suzuki-chan?"

"Kazuha?" she said on the other line. "Is Hattori-san with you?"

I looked over the direction of my boyfriend and looked back at my phone. "Why are you asking?"

"It is involved with Shinichi and also, Ran has been also missing at the same time so I called you for help."

I looked at Heiji again. So, what he is saying is the truth. I turned on the speaker on and mumbled to Heiji, "Just listen."

"Kazuha-chan, the speaker is on now. You could say whatever you want," I said.

"Kazuha, Hattori-san, this is an urgent matter. I need you to cooperate with me, with Kaito Kid, and with the police officers," Sonoko said. "This is about Ran and Shinichi, and I really, really need your help."

Third Person's POV

"Ran! Ran!" Shinichi is still shouting Ran's name over and over again. "Ran! Ran!"

She's not responding. She isn't moving. I needed to get to her. I need to save her!

"You should not try to come on her aid, my precious boyfriend," Olivia said, holding the mic on her hand while smirking as she is watching from a room with a screen on which she is seeing Shinichi.

"Take me to her! And I'm not your boyfriend, Olivia!" Shinichi shouted.

That made Olivia frowned. "You are MY BOYFRIEND!" she shouted back. "I can have you! I can have anything I wanted!"

"You're insane!" Shinichi shouted back again. "Ran has no fault! I have no fault! Well, I guess I have and that is breaking your heart BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD DO THIS!"

She scoffed. "No one could ever stop me from having you now! The information about this place isn't leaked to the government nor to the public and the police can't track some abandoned building like this."

"You sure are a very easy thinker huh?" Shinichi said, grinning as he frowned. "Do you think it'll be just the end when the police couldn't track this place? Oh, yes. I'll ask you, my beloved Ex-girlfriend. How many hours could we wait until you go back again to jail? With your comrades now for the bonus."

She gritted her teeth as she glared through her screen. "You'll never get away from me again! You'll be a prisoner..." She's shaking. "A prisoner for life in my own dream house!"

Shinichi tilted his head and raised an eyebrow staring at Ran but his focus is talking to Olivia. He knows that Olivia is monitoring him so he talks to her quite cockly than usual.

"Prisoner? No, no. That's not right. A prisoner for life? No, no. That's not right either," he said and laughed. "First of all, I am no prisoner in your dream land. Someone will or could find your hideout any moment even though you only knew that this kind of building would never be tracked in the first place. Second, are you sure that you're only going to get rid of Ran?"

She frowned as she stared at the screen while looking to her precious "prince". Her heartbeat raised by his words. It feels like that there are knives striking on her chest that makes her feel uneasy.

"W-What do you mean by that?! Of course I will only get rid of the woman who is stealing you away from me!"

Shinichi shook his head. "No, no. That's a wrong decision, Olivia." He looked around through the dark room. "I'm pretty sure you are seeing me pretty much clearly, aren't you? Monitoring me and Ran? Now, that's a high tech one."

She glared at the screen again. "Don't change the topic. What do you mean by it is wrong for me to just get rid of that bastard woman?" she asked. The uneasiness is still in her. She couldn't describe why but she could feel Shinichi is seriously getting her through his words.

Whether it is truth or a lie, his words struck like a sting. What if there are really some people who would find out our place? What if they will ruin all our plans all at once? What if I could be put to jail and worse, I'll be executed for life? No, no! I don't want that! I want to still live my life! I don't want my life to end because—

"Cat got your tongue, olives?" Shinichi asked her teasingly. Olivia glared once again to the screen and stood up.

She wanted to see Shinichi face to face so she goes out of the monitoring room and went downstairs where Ran and Shinichi are. There are two doors leading to where Ran is and to where Shinichi is.

She went to where Shinichi is and closed the door behind her. She could see Shinichi's silhouette because of the bright light from the room where Ran is. She walk towards Shinichi and glared at him.

"Oh~ So, Ms. what-so-whatever came over here to say hi to me," Shinichi said as he put both of his hands to the pockets of his trousers.

"That's a half of it for the reason I came here, Mr. Cocky Guy," she said and suddenly points a gun at him.

Shinichi didn't even flinch. What he did is just bit his lip to keep his mouth shut.

She noticed it. The way Shinichi is looking at her teasingly makes her blood boil. "Tell me the reason why you said my decision is wrong," she said.

"Oi, oi, olives, are you realy that desperate to take my words into reality?" Shinichi replied. He can't contain his laugh anymore. But then, he stopped laughing and looked at her eyes as cold as a stone. "They will come for you, Olivia, to save me and Ran. You can't escape because you just knew this is your secret safe place but they're going to pull some strings off of their sleeves and any minute, they'll be coming here." Shinichi slowly smirked. "Or should I say, seconds?"

Olivia's eyes widened in fear. "What?!"

Suddenly, all the barricades are removed, the lights goes on and doors began to open. Olivia looked around and saw many police rounding them. The big windows suddenly breaks, revealing Kaito Kid and his girlfriend, Aoko, Heiji and Kazuha to the other side to pick up the unconscious Ran.

"W-What the hell?!" Olivia shouted, confused.

"Hey there, ojou-chan!" Kaito Kid said, winking at her. "Did we surprise you?" he asked while grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

Olivia clicked his tongue and looked around. She saw that Ran is now gone from her spot. The smoke is also gone now.

"Who bombarded my plans?! And how do you manage to remove all what I did in this room?!"

"It is me, Miss B*tch onee-san," said the person who is on the monitoring room. Shuffles could be heard in the person's background.

There is a groan heard to the speaker and then, a thud near the microphone. There's something also breaks like a glass.

"G-Gomenasai, My Lady. T-There are kids here that barged in to the monitoring room." Olivia's eyes widened as she recognized the voice.

"Tomaki Serio-san!" She clenched her teeth and looked over to her "boyfriend". She pulled him on his collar and looked at him eye to eye. "What did you do to him?"

Shinichi whistled and looked over to Kaito Kid. "Hey, Kid! The woman is asking, 'What did you do' to her 'comrade'," he said sheepishly.

Kaito Kid laughed. "Well, as you can see, the Detective Boys are currently in the monitoring room. Well, for in fact, someone is used to electronics and high technology that he knows exactly what he's doing when he removed all of the barricades—traps—trapping-styles thingy in this room. And oh! For the record, he also removed all of the effects that could lead death and suicide to this room. Specifically, only the electronics and technology that might be here, hidden or not," Kaito answered while grinning.

"Ran-san is alright. Olivia just made her asleep," Okimunawara Airika, aka Haibara inside her body, replied to Heiji as she looked at him. "No need to worry. She is only unconscious. No signs of strug—I guess there is some kind of trouble they have encountered before they even get to this room." She saw the rough signs of the iron clips on Ran's ankles.

"Thank you," Heiji said.

On the other hand, the police officers are confused why there's a strange girl in the room with the detective of the West.

Megure-keibu cleared his throat and walked towards Heiji as he asked, "May I asked if who is that girl?" He pointed towards Okimunawara.

Heiji and Kazuha looked over the child. Her features is really different from Haibara so it is not quite surprising if Megure-keibu doesn't even recognized her.

"M-Megure-keibu, this is—"

Haibara stood up and greeted, "My name is Ai Haibara or Miyano Shiho if you would prefer. The Nirvana had decided to reincarnate me in this body as Okimunawara Airika due to her weak body and I might say I am her guardian angel now."

Megure-keibu blinked numerously as he stared at the young kid. He shook his head as he cleared his throat again, there's a bead of sweat forming to his temple.

"W-Well, if you may say, I'm gald you are being reincarnated," he said and just leave.

"Did I... tell something bad?" Haibara asked curiously.

"N-No, Ai-kun! It's alright! I think the inspector just got shocked really hard," Kazuha explained as she lets out an uncomfortable laugh.

Meanwhile, Mitsuhiko and Genta knocked out some of Olivia's comrades that are near to the direction of the monitoring room.

Soon, all of Olivia's comrades including her was brought to a private facility where all of them are jailed with hard security.
