Maxwell couldn't help but smile in affection as he watched Melissa eagerly waiting for the waiter to finish serving. "These cakes smell so good!" she exclaimed with excitement and started to dish the cakes onto her plate. She seemed to be in her own little world of joy and contentment.
"Stop watching me eat!" Melissa said with a chuckle, handing a plate with a cake on it to Maxwell. "You must try it, it's absolutely delicious!" she encouraged, her eyes filled with delight.
Maxwell took the plate of cake, ready to indulge when his eyes fell upon a suspiciously different color. All thanks to the woman who wanted to be in his bed, he was able to detect if something had been added to the food or drinks. He knew that someone had spiked Mellisa's food and coffee. Without reluctance, he placed the plate of cake aside and pulled out his phone. He dialed a number and the call connected almost immediately. "Come to the Food Lovers restaurant," he commanded sternly, "I want you to check the CCTV footage." Maxwell hung up, disgusted at the thought of someone tampering with the food.
"Come on, Melissa, we have to leave," Maxwell said, rising from the chair. He could see that the effects of the drug were starting to take hold. He walked to the other end of the chair and tried to help Melissa up.
"My head is heavy, and my eyes can't see anything properly," Melissa said, her voice slurred. Without waiting for her next sentence, Maxwell carried her out of the restaurant and placed her in the back seat of the car.
"I'm feeling so hot," Melissa said. "I want to take off my clothes, I'm feeling so hot that I can't take them."
"No, Melissa, don't take off your clothes," Maxwell said, driving the car as quickly as he could. "We'll be home soon. Hang in there." He made a sharp turn and, luckily, they were near the hospital. He called the doctor to be ready for them.
Maxwell and Melissa arrived at the hospital in no time, and Maxwell quickly carried her inside. "I'm burning, please help me take off my clothes," Melissa murmured.
Maxwell rushed her to the ward, where the doctor was already waiting. He carefully laid her on the bed and said anxiously, "Doctor, someone spiked her food."
The doctor replied, "Mr. William, I suggest you tell her the truth about her pregnancy and heart problems. In that way, she can stay away from all this drama, as she can't keep on falling sick in this condition." With a disapproving tone, the doctor added, "Please excuse me, so that I can check on her." It was clear that Maxwell had to face the consequences of his actions.
Maxwell heaved a heavy sigh as he left the ward and slumped down onto the bench, his head resting in his hands. He knew that the only way to protect Mellisa and their child was to tell her the truth, but he couldn't help but worry about how she would react. He was filled with dread, knowing that whatever the outcome, it would be far from ideal. He could only sit and ponder, feeling a sense of grievance for having to put himself and his loved ones in such a difficult situation.
Maxwell rose off the bench, anxiety in his voice as he asked, "Is she alright now?"
The doctor nodded and replied, "Yes, we were able to take out all the drugs from her body. However, I must emphasize again that you must tell her the truth - her life and the baby are in danger if you don't." With that, the doctor and the nurses left.
Maxwell stepped into the ward and saw Melissa lying on the bed. He was relieved that she hadn't fallen unconscious and made his way to the chair beside her bed. Taking a deep breath, he began, "Melissa, I've got something I need to tell you, and I'm not sure how you're going to take it…"
Melissa tilted her head and faced Maxwell, her eyebrows raised in confusion. "Yes, tell me," she said. Maxwell began to explain the events of the day when she and Linda were kidnapped, and how he had saved her life. He also told her about the baby she was carrying in her womb. "Melissa, I'm really sorry," he said. "I did whatever I had to save your life. I didn't know what to do. And now you are carrying an unwanted child in your womb because of me. I'm sorry. I know my apology won't solve anything, but please try to understand this from my point of view.
Mellisa's eyes widened in disbelief and her mouth slackened. Her heart raced as she experienced a mix of emotions: shock, anger, happiness, and hurt. She was happy because she was going to become a mother, something she had always wanted. "Why didn't you tell me the truth before?" she asked sternly. "I could have hurt my baby because of your stupidity!"
Maxwell blinked, his eyebrows squinted together he was confused about what Mellisa said, shouldn't she be angry, shouting and kicking his ass. Then why was she saying that she would have hurt her baby because of his stupidity? Okay, wait!! Was she going to forgive him just like that? " Are you not angry?? " Maxwell finally asked.
Mellisa glared at Maxwell angrily, though she was grateful to him for saving her life and giving her the most precious gift in the world. She was ashamed to even look at him, as making her pregnant meant that he must have seen her body. Acting angry was the only way she could save herself from shame, as she would rather thank him later. Without him, she could have died without fulfilling her dreams. "I want to fail a rape case against you," Melissa said, though she was thankful for his actions. "Thank you for saving my life and giving me a precious gift though.
Maxwell let out a sigh of relief, grateful that God had heard his silent plea. He thought that Mellisa would be angry with him, but instead, she had surprised him with her understanding. "Thank you for understanding me, Melissa," Maxwell said. "Does this mean we're going to get married for the sake of our baby?"
Mellisa shook her head. "I've already told you that I will never get married again," she said sadly. "Thank you for saving my life and giving me a baby, but that doesn't mean we have to get married. I will raise my child alone...
