Maxwell's face was twisted in grievance as he entered the dining room and saw Melissa slumped over the table. He placed the plate of cake down and pulled out a chair to sit next to her. "What's going on here, Melissa? Are you feeling tired?" Tina, who had been watching from the doorway, felt a wave of hatred for Melissa swell inside her. She quickly turned away and left the house, her heart heavy with resentment.
Melissa raised her head and faced Maxwell, her eyes filled with tears. She had been trying to forget the events of the past and the pain inflicted by Zick, but she couldn't seem to get it out of her mind. It was like a movie playing on a loop, and she felt helpless to make it stop. The rejection from her husband was the worst, and watching him make love to someone else in her presence was unbearable. "Sir, am I ugly, disgusting, or unlikeable?" she asked, her voice shaking with emotion. "Please tell me honestly," she pleaded, her heart broken.
Maxwell clenched his jaws, grinding his teeth so hard that he felt a sharp pain in his jaw. His hatred for Zick was so intense that it was almost tangible. He could only imagine the pain and suffering Zick had inflicted on Melissa, making it impossible for her to forget the past and move on with her life. He gently wiped away her tears and spoke in a soft voice, "Hey, Melissa, don't ever say that about yourself. You are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, don't ever doubt that."
Melissa's voice trembled as she sobbed, "Why did he do this to me? Why did he make me lose my confidence and hurt me so badly? Whenever I think about it, I feel a pain in my heart. Please help me to forget everything about him. Please." Her voice was filled with desperation and despair.
Maxwell tightly embraced Mellisa, wishing he could erase her suffering and make her forget her troubles. He knew that she was doing her best, and he was determined to be there for her and keep Tina away from his home. He was frustrated that it was her presence that had brought back the painful memories of the past.
Mellisa drifted off in Maxwell's comforting arms, and he tenderly carried her up to her bedroom. Gently placing her on the bed, he sat beside her, admiring her peaceful slumber. It was a beautiful sight, and Maxwell couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment as he watched over her.
...…
It was already evening when Melissa opened her eyes and found Maxwell sleeping peacefully beside her. As the memories of what had happened flooded her mind, she felt a single tear trickle down her cheek. "Why can't I stop this nonsense? When will I be able to forget and move on with my life? I'm so tired now, and I can't take it anymore," Melissa murmured. Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her phone ringing, and without waking Maxwell she answered the call.
"Hello, Melissa here. How can I help you?" Melissa said in a polite yet forceful tone.
The woman on the other side of the call
replied, "I got your contract on your page on Instagram. I saw the wedding dress that you have made and I was very impressed with your work. And I would like to ask you if you can make my wedding dress and the dresses of my bridal maids."
At this, Melissa widened her eyes in shock, her heart beating so fast. She replied, "Yes, I would be very honoured to make your wedding dress. Please come to the address that is on my Instagram account page, then we can discuss everything face to face."
"Okay Miss, I will be there tomorrow morning. Thank you for your time. I will hang up now," the woman said.
"Thank you," Melissa said before hanging up the call.
She was delighted to have the opportunity to take her mind off of the events that had transpired and to focus on making money for herself. She knew that having a source of income would be her therapy, and she was determined to make the most of it. She was grateful to have something to do and to be able to work towards a better future.
Maxwell smiled and said, "Congratulations! You're getting your first contract! I'm sure this news is enough to make you forget about crying and focus on that instead."
Melissa looked at him with raised
eyebrows and said, "You're in my room again. I know this is your house, but don't you think it's inappropriate for an unmarried man to be in the same room as an unmarried woman?"
"I'm already your future husband," Maxwell replied with a chuckle. "If you want to sleep peacefully beside me, then why don't you just marry me? I was already your ideal husband in your childhood, so why not make it official?"
"Stop talking nonsense," Melissa retorted. "We're both adults now. Is there an ice cream shop nearby? I'm craving it. "
Maxwell rose off the bed, feeling excited to be spending more time with Mellisa. "Come on, I will go with you," he said, a hint of unhappiness in his tone. He wished he had met Mellisa before Zick. He knew that she will reject him even when he ask her out seriously,
When he came back downstairs, he found Mellisa sitting on the couch, seemingly lost in her world. He sighed, wishing she would be more enthusiastic about the plans he had made for them. "I'm ready," he said,
"Okay, let's go,'' she said.
The two of them had just received good news, but Mellisa still felt downcast, not uttering a single word as they left the house and got inside the car. Maxwell drove off, the atmosphere in the car oppressive and heavy with sadness. Before long, they had arrived at the same restaurant they had visited before. It was already close to 9 pm, yet the restaurant was bustling with people out for dinner.
"This way sir..." the manager greeted them and showed them to their seats.
Maxwell pulled out a chair for Mellisa, who sat down without a word. A feeling of disapproval hung in the air, the silence between them was so much that Maxwell could not help but feel bad.
"Melissa, we are friends, right? " Maxwell asked.
"What?!" Melissa exclaimed. "A poor girl like me being friends with a rich guy like you is impossible."
"Don't be silly," Maxwell replied. "We are all humans and I want to be your friend."
Mellisa raised her eyebrows, her upper lip hitched in disapproval. "Are you sure about that? You're not doing this just to cheer me up, are you?"
"No, I truly want to be your friend," Maxwell insisted.
Mellisa smiled at last. "We are friends then."
"Cool," Maxwell said. "What would you like to have?"
"I don't want to have dinner tonight," Melissa said. "I want to have vanilla cake, chocolate cake, red velvet cake, banana cake, coffee cake, strawberry cake, and a cup of coffee. After that, I'll have ice cream."
Maxwell's eyes widened in shock. "So many cakes?" he asked, unable to hide his surprise.
"I'm paying for them, don't worry," Melissa said with a confident smile. "I just received my first payment for the dress I made today, so I'm more than happy to treat us."
" It's not that, but I'm worried about you. " Maxwell said
She gave Maxwell a nod,
showing her approval of the plan. "You don't need to worry about me," she continued. "I don't even know why I'm craving so many cakes; that's unusual for me."
Maxwell nodded in agreement, then quickly changed the subject. "Let's place our order now," he said with an enthusiastic tone. Melissa smiled, pleased that Maxwell had accepted her offer and was eager to eat her cakes.
Liana smirked with satisfaction as she saw Mellisa and Maxwell seated at their table. She immediately called the waiter over and instructed him to put a special powder in Mellisa's food. The waiter compiled without hesitation and went off to the kitchen to prepare the orders. It was a brilliant plan, and Liana was pleased with her own ingenuity. She had found the perfect way to get back at Mellisa without having to lift a finger."You must know that Zick is mine alone. " She murmured.
