Chapter 52 A chance.

Maxwell pulled away from the hug, looking at Mellisa with a questioning gaze. "You mean that you want to give me a chance to be your husband?" he asked, unable to believe his eyes and ears. The last time he had checked, Mellisa had wanted nothing to do with him. What had changed her mind so quickly? He could only wonder.

Mellisa felt a thickness in her throat, signalling the onset of tears. "I've been lonely my whole life," she said, her voice trembling. "I know Michelle has been by my side, but it couldn't fill the void in my life. I never experienced the love of my mother or my father. I thought marriage would end the loneliness, but it only made it worse. I just want to experience being loved and wanted by someone, to let go of the past and move on with my life, to be happy. That's all I want." Tears streamed down her face as she finished speaking.

Maxwell opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. It felt as if his words had gotten stuck in his throat. He swallowed hard before he pulled Mellisa into a tight embrace. "Mellisa, thank you for giving me a chance and for wanting me to be the one to show you what it feels like to be loved. I promise I won't ever play with your feelings, because I know your heart is fragile and needs to be. taken care of. I swear on my life that you won't regret this decision you made today." Maxwell murmured, rubbing Mellisa's back gently.

Mellisa shook her head in disbelief as she said, "I should be thanking you, if it weren't for you then I would have died a long time ago. But you gave me a reason to keep on living. You taught me to live my life for me and not for others, and I can't express how grateful I am for that. But it's a shame that it took me so long to realize it."

Shina, Michelle, and Linda arrived at Mellisa's room to check on her, but were shocked to find her in an embrace with Maxwell. They quickly hid at the doorway, not wanting to intrude on the moment. It was clear that something was going on between the two.

"Will they keep hugging each other?" Shina asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Mellisa doesn't know much about relationships, so that's understandable, but your dad was married before. How can he be so unromantic?" Michelle whispered back.

"My dad is the most romantic man I've ever seen. I'm just glad they're giving their relationship a chance," Shina replied in a hushed tone. "I feel sorry for us single ones, because there's going to be a lot of PDA in this house."

"Stop talking nonsense," Linda interjected. "Tina is still in this house. Do you think she's going to let them be happy? And what about Mellisa's ex-husband? Do you think he's going to let this slide after what Mellisa did? We need to be prepared for whatever comes before we can even think of being happy. All you think about is kisses and romance and nothing else. "

" Linda, can't we be happy for a second??"Shina whispered, rolling her eyes.

" Let's go, before they catch us spying on them. "Michelle said whispered

The three of them went to their rooms.

....

Back to Maxwell and Mellisa.

Maxwell pulled away from the hug and looked at Mellisa intensely in her eyes.

Mellisa looked at him,her heart racing." W–Why are you looking at me like that??"Mellisa asked, pulling her hair behind her back.

" Let's get married. "Maxwell said, his voice soft and sexy.

" B—But we are already married, I don't want to have a white wedding. It will bring a lot of attention, which is something I don't want. "Mellisa said.

" Okay, we will do whatever you want. "Maxwell said." Can I kiss you please. "He asked his eyes on Melissa."

Mellisa's face turned red, her heart racing. Yes she agreed to be his wife but what did kissing have to do with all this?? " B—But why do you want to kiss me??"

"I will tell you later." Maxwell said moving closer to Mellisa closing the distance between them, their lips met in a soft, gentle kiss. His hand gently cupped her cheek as her arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him in closer. Their bodies pressed together, fitting perfectly like two puzzle pieces. Their kiss deepened, and the world around them seemed to disappear as they lost themselves in the moment.

Maxwell's lips were warm and inviting, and Mellisa couldn't help but melt into his embrace. He tasted like warm honey and the sweetest of summer days. She ran her hands through his hair, feeling the soft strands between her fingers. The kiss was slow and sensual, each movement deliberate and meaningful.

As the kiss came to an end, Mellisa rested her forehead against Maxwell's, their breaths mingling as they looked into each other's eyes. It was as if everything they had been holding back was finally released in that one kiss, and they both knew that there was no turning back now, it was a new beginning for the both of them.

Maxwell smiled as he carefully laid Melissa on the bed, but his expression quickly changed to a frown as his phone began to ring. He retrieved his phone and answered the call, disappointment evident on his face. Despite wanting to stay and enjoy the moment of holding Melissa in his arms, he was forced to leave the room.

"Hello, Sir. I've bought 50% in Zick's company," Mark said, . "There's something you must know. I saw Miss Tina and Zick together in a restaurant, and it seemed like they were discussing something important."

Maxwell's voice was stern as he replied, "Keep an eye on their every move. Take CCTV footage of their every move."

"Okay sir," Mark replied. "Please don't forget that you were supposed to attend the meeting in City Y. Your attention is needed there."

"I won't be able to attend the meeting," Maxwell said. "I suggest you and the assistant go and attend the meeting in City Y, but remember it's for work, not a romantic vacation, okay?"

"I will keep that in mind, sir," Mark said.

"Okay, start the preparation then," Maxwell said before ending the call.

Maxwell was about to descend the stairs when he spotted Tina walking out of the house, dressed in a red, short dress that showed off her back and cleavage. He knew immediately that she was off to meet one of her former lovers. Disgusted, he shook his head and muttered, "Some people are beyond saving. I pity the woman who gave birth to you." He was thankful to have met someone like Mellisa, who was honest and humble. He was determined to do whatever it took to win her heart and lead a good life with her.
