His Newest Victim

Mc Ivan's POV

It's a sunny morning. I made sure to look more handsome and presentable as always today as I went to Kissa's home.

Maybe, she just arrives from church. It's Sunday, and Kissa together with his child, Neil, never failed to attend church. She's very religious, kind, and also beautiful.

The most beautiful girl, I've ever seen my whole life.

I brought her cheesedesal in the only bakery in our town. It's a coffee and bread store.

I always do this every morning. She's always in my mind, and so I want to see her first thing in the morning.

I've been courting her for ages, but I don't mind.

As long as she's the one I'm waiting for, I can wait forever.

That's love right? You are willing to wait even how long, as long as it's worth it.

And Kissa? She's worth the wait.

I'm not even concerned about what will other says about me courting a single mom. Who cares? This is my life.

And I will do what I want to do.

I prepared myself to knock on their door.

“Hi, Kissa —

“Why are you here again?” But unfortunately, it was her son Neil who opened the door.

He is just an eleven year-old-boy who hates me so much.

He never likes me.

Maybe because he doesn't want me for her Mom.

He hates the idea of another man in their life. Kissa once shared to me that Neil told her she doesn't need to find another man, that Neil got her.

He's actually matured at his young age. I adore him, but he hates me.

Pretty much.

“Am, I just want to give these cheesedesal buns to your Mom, she loves these, and also—

“I told you, I don't want a policeman for my Mom. My father is a policeman, and he only made us cry, he kept cheating on my Mom.” He said, then shut the door.

See? I told you, he hates me.

Man, this child.

I just want to be close to her because I know Kissa will love that idea.

I want him to be comfortable with me, and trust me that I will never leave nor hurt her mother.

That's the least thing, I'll ever do.

But I can't blame him, though. I know he was really hurt by what his Daddy did to them.

That jerk.

He's bad influence to the manhood.

Why does the good man, needs to suffer because of the bad man who cheats?

How I wish he realized that not all policemen are like his Dad. That some good policemen like me exist.

I'm different.

Because, I'm both handsome and kind.

Did I just flutter myself? Oh yes, I did.

It's the truth, though, not lying on that.

This is perhaps an unlucky day for me. I was ready to go when I saw Kissa entering their backyard. Wow! Even in simple house clothes, she's still pretty.

My world literally stops as she walked in.

Prettiest, indeed.

The prettiest girl in my eyes. And she always makes me feel weird. It's like I'm in the cloud 9 whenever I see her smile.

Her smiles shine brighter as the brightest star I could ever look at.

I'd rather have her smile, then any treasure in the world.

“Hi Kissa!” I said, smiling at her.

And, definitely, like an idiot.

You can't blame me.

“Oh, Hi Ivan!” She answered in a lovely tone.

Even her voice feels like heaven.

Her beautiful brown eyes are shining while looking at me as if I'm the most handsome man in the whole world.

Well, I do, though. I told you guys already, right?

You just have to believe me.

“A-Ah, I j-just want to give this b-buns to you. It's c-cheesedesal, your favorite.” I said in a stuttering voice.

Why am I like this! Minus points to Mc Ivan!

But can you blame me? She's gorgeous!

I can't think straight!

“Thank you, You don't have to, you always do this everyday. I think, I'm disturbing you.” She said smiling.

“No, no, of course you will never be a disturbance to me. You know that, if you need anything, I'll always be one call away.” I answered, still looking at her.

She chuckled.

“You—

“Mom! I'm so hungry, why are you still there?!” We both averted our eyes to the young man who shouted at us.

Here comes Neil again, trying to separate us. Occasionally, I want to pinch him so much for being a brat.

Can he just give me a chance?

I'll be the best Dad he never had.

If and only if, he gives me a chance, and Kissa too.

“Ah-Okay Baby, wait for a while. Thank you for this and sorry about Neil. I have to go now.” She smiled again.

Oh, man. I'm living for that smile.

“Ah okay, Sure. Eat well.” I smiled back.

“Don't worry, I'm used to Neil.” We both chuckled.

I just followed her gaze as she walked to their doorstep.

She even walks like a beauty queen.

If she joined Ms. Universe, she will surely win.

I saw Neil's sharp eyes looking at me.

He's cute, too bad he doesn't like me.

I guess, if he does, Kissa already said yes to me.

I waited for them to come inside their house before I decided to leave.

Even if it's Sunday, it's not my rest day.

This is one of the perks, being a policeman.

We need to be there every time.

Even in our rest day, we need to be alert.

Occasionally, we're being called on duty.

And that's fine, I'm used to it.

I look at my watch, I'm late already, I have to walk fast. I must finish some tasks in my department.

Our head been aching with the cases we're assigned to.

Especially, the case of Serious Guy.

The serial killer in our town that until now, we haven't solved.

He never leaves a trace, and it's so frustrating.

When I was about to leave, suddenly my phone rang.

“Hello? Inspector Rosauro speaking.” I said casually to the caller.

But that caller bombs me with sudden news.

“What! Okay, I'll be there.” I ran immediately as I heard it.

Guess, like, another Serious Guy case.

And I was right.

“It's Serious Guy again.” Castino told me.

She's one of the inspectors in our investigation unit.

I took a deep sign.

“Who's the victim?” I asked.

“You won't believe this.” I look at her as my forehead creased.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“It is our Chief of Police.” She answered.

“What?!”

And I was too stunned.
