Entering the land of make believe

The limo was extravagant. Ruby let a whistle out, "Wow! Beau knows how to go in style."

Colt grabbed a bottle of water, "Yeah he does."

Ruby fiddled with her bracelet; one of the last things her mother gave her before her murder. Ruby did know why she kept thinking of her today; truth be told her mother's memory was always close. The silence was a wall Colt wanted to tear down. He studied her; her dark hair was done in a long French style braid. Her dark blue eyes sparkled like gem stones. Colt was discreetly adjusting himself. Joey had told him how she came to live with his family as kids, but it was rare for a human to know about the mythical community; let alone be adopted into a pack.

Colt took a breath to break the wall, but Ruby beat him to it. "So, how did you meet Beau?"

Colt closed his eyes and remembered, "It was during the second battle of Mag Tuired. Beau was part of a party set to raid on the Fomorians. I was just a wee lad." He winked at Ruby who smiled.

Colt and his cousins thought they were men enough and could take on the enemy alone. They were wrong. Colt still bore a scar on his hip where a sword grazed him. "Beau saved my sorry hide from an enemy's sword."

Ruby made a small noise, "Are you fae too?"

Her eyes held curiosity that Colt found innocent. "Actually I am a shifter. A Faoladh."

Ruby shyly smiled, "Very impressive. I have heard that the Faoladh are one of the rarest Celtic clans".

Colt turned to her and ran a finger over her arm, "And how about you? How exactly did a pretty little girl end up with the pack?"

Ruby looked out the window before looking at him. It still pained her to talk about it. "My mom was a healer. I never knew my dad he died in a skirmish before I was born. The alpha was in the military with him."

Ruby worried her bottom lip and played with her bracelet, "My mom was murdered and the alpha took me in and placed me with Joey's family. His dad knew mine too, I guess. No one really talked to me about him."

Colt leaned over and kissed her cheek softly. "Don't be sad Ruby."

Ruby turned her head and blinked. Colt smiled and leaned in to kiss her lips.

Her scent drove him mad. She smelled like lilac and rain. He trailed a hand up her arm his thoughts already claiming her as his, "I don't ever want to see you sad little one."

Ruby gulped. No one ever stirred her so quickly. She looked down, "I am only human after all."
