I chuckled at his actions thinking it's funny only for me to see the frightened look on his face and I got worried and held onto him. I raised my eyebrows at the waitress and she withdrew her hand.
Ben was not left out because he was scrutinizing the lady with a glare.
I squeezed his hand and he calmed down.
"Please can someone attend to us, my boy does not want you to serve us"
Ben said dismissively and the waitress left with a discorn look on her face.
Jeff sighed and climbed down from my neck, I massaged my neck and looked at him to see if he was still frightened but the look was nowhere to be found.
I did not know what that was all about. Kids just don't get scared of someone unless there is something about that person.
"Jeff honey, are you okay?"
I asked him
"I am fine now. That auntie looks scaring, I don't like her"
He said and I definitely know there is something about her and we need to be careful.
"Don't worry about her, it's just the way she looks. Nevertheless, she would not come here again"
I said reassuring him and he smiled at me then faced Ben.
"Uncle Ben, you are not smiling?"
He questioned Ben and I shook my head. This boy is something else, he has the audacity to ask Ben why he is not smiling when it has everything to do with him.
"I am Jeff, I am just mad that the auntie has to scare you like that. I don't take it easy with people who scares people."
"It's fine Ben, Jeff does not look scared anymore so let it go"
Ben sighed and pumped his knuckles.
Another waitress came with a menu and smiled politely at us.
"Sir, Miss, what would you like to have?"
She asked, Jeff looked up sharply at the waitress and frowned.
"What about me, are you not supposed to include my name on the list of those you are to ask about what they will eat?. Or do you think my mom and dad here know what I want?"
I was like, what the heck?. For a six year old boy to act like this. And what also got me was the fact that he called Ben and I his mom and dad.
The lady looked apologetically at him and Ben sighed.
"I am sorry little boy,I did not mean to be like that. So what would you want to have"
She said and patted him on his head and he smiled.
"It's fine, I want to know if I am invisible. I want what my mom and dad would have"
He said and relaxed back on the couch. I kept staring at him asking myself if Jeff is an adult or a little boy.
"What do you have?"
I asked suddenly but before the lady could answer, Ben picked an order for us.
"We will have chips, ketchup and chicken. Thank you"
He said and waved the woman off which to me I considered to be rude. The lady left with no expression on her face.
"Ben, don't you think that was rude?"
I asked, eyeing him.
"What was rude?"
He questioned me nonchalantly,I was shocked by the way he asked the question. I don't know but I feel his mood is messed up.
"Ben, I don't know what happened to your mood but don't always vent your anger on people. The way you dismissed the waitress was rude."
He sighed and looked at me.
"I am so sorry Nora, I don't even know why I am pissed off. But I am bigger than this."
He apologized and I nodded my head in understanding. I think his mood changed after that first waitress left and that got me thinking. If Jeff got frightened because of her and Ben got itchy because of her then my hutch about her is right. She is Definitely something.
Jeff popped his face up and pinched Ben's nose which got me laughing because Ben had to glare at him and he chuckled.
"You are not supposed to be angry, being angry does not fit you, uncle"
Jeff said laughing and Ben laughed with him. Looking at them laughing brought smiles to my face. Kids will always be kids.
The waitress brought our orders to us and placed it gently on the table then left after bowing.
The chips looked yummy, Jeff was staring at the meal with his mouth curved like the letter "o". His expression was priceless.
"I bet this taste so goooood"
He exclaimed and clapped his hands, Ben arranged his place in front of him and urged him to start eating but he refused. "What again?"
I thought, Jeff will continue to bring out who he is until we get him to his family.
