Chapter 309 A Suicidal Mission

    I was setting the cups of tea when Jeff walked into the kitchen all dressed up. The jumpsuit really looks good on him. He smiled and turned towards Govey and waved at her.

 "Hello! I am Jeff and who are you?"

He asked Govey after introducing himself. I opened and closed my mouth. This boy will not cease to amaze me.

  "I am Govey and I learnt you lost,are you?"

Govey questioned him. He waved his hands and replied her 

  "Yes I am but I really don't want to go home. Here is home, these people and where I come from, they are not nice at all"

he said sadly.

   "Jeff darling,you have to go home, it's right you do. I promise, if we locate you parents, you can always visit"

"I know right"

   He said and left with a cup of tea, I did not even ask him to.

   "He is like this each time you bring up going home. I wondered why a child would not want to go back his family"

I said and Govey shrugged off her shoulders.

  "I don't have a clue, maybe you should sit him down and ask him why. He might have a good reason"

Govey suggested and picked a cup with a plate of scrambled eggs, I did too and we left. I came back later to carry Jeff's egg and took the loaf of bread with me. It was time for breakfast, I pray Jeff becomes a good boy and feeds himself.

   I got to the living room and he was already eating, he had to carry my own egg. He was eating the egg as if he was fighting with it. I thought he was going to be different today but Jeff will always be Jeff.

  I said down and tone on the television.

"Jeff here, take"

I said and handed him three slices of bread on his original plate of egg and took my plate. He grumpily took the plate but not without thanking me.

   There is one thing about Jeff, he never fails to say thank you even when his mood is at its worst. 

  "Don't be like that Jeff, you know I love you right?"

He did not reply, he just focused on his meal.

  "Right??"

I repeated myself.

  He looked up and nodded.

 "Right."

   "I like him Nora"

Govey whispered and sipped her tea.

  "Yeah he is adorable"

I whispered back and smiled at Jeff.

   While we eat, I catch up with Govey on old time.

   Breakfast was done and dusted and I enjoyed every bit of it only that Jeff was grumpy all through. I did everything I could to make him come out of the mood but it remains abortive. I really did my best,I guess my best was not enough.

   "Thanks Nora for feeding me this morning"

Govey thanked me and I just smiled. It was just a breakfast. It's nothing big,anybody can host you for breakfast.

   "Thanks too for accepting to be fed, I am honored. It's the least I could do for you"

I said.

   "Thank you auntie, thank you Miss Govey"

He said and left with our plates. I did not expect him to do that, once again he surprised me.

  He returned from the kitchen and was all smiles.

  I exchanged a glance with Govey and looked at Jeff to see him still smiling.

  "Jeff, did you pick a coin from the kitchen"

I asked.

"Naw, I just thought there is no need to be grumpy. Frowning makes one get old and I don't want to age now. I can always come back here so when am I going home?"

That was so first, thanks to whatever that cheered him up.

   "That's great then. You see, my friend here has got an issue which I need to help here with so Ben will find your parents and take you home. Hope you are good with it?"

   He smiled when I finished.

    "Wow, so Uncle Ben will be the one to take me home. Of Course I am good with it, I can't wait."

He replied and clapped his hands happily, Govey chuckled but I looked at him confused.

I was kind of confused seeing him excited, I know he and Ben don't get along. I hope he is not up to something?

    "Why are you so excited?"

I asked him, I need to know if he is not up to something. Leaving Jeff in Ben's custody will be a suicidal mission but let me trust them both, they have to behave.

   "Nothing, can't wait to get home that's

all"

He said.

  "Jeff, I know you so well, I hope you don't have anything planned. Well I don't need to say much, trust Ben to treat you well"

I smirked and his smile fell and that moment, the doorbell rang.
