Chapter 70

I walked downstairs and on my way down, I saw the chef standing by the dinning table 

"Hope my dinner is ready?"- I asked with delight

"Yes sir. I prepared fried rice and salad for you"- She replied

That's my favourite dish and the way the chef prepares it makes it so delicious and attractive to the eyes. Don't know what I will do without a good cook like her 

"Thank you very much dear."- I replied with a smile 

"Please can you prepare tea for me and bring some sliced bread along"- My wife cut in

"No problem madam. Just give me few minutes"- The Chef replied and dashed off to the kitchen to arrange the food request given to her by my wife 

"I thought you said you are not hungry?"- I asked, while taking my seat on the dinning chair 

"I figured out that you might be lonely over here, so I decided to join you"- She replied

I stared into her eyes, hoping that she would say the truth because she gets really uncomfortable whenever she is lying

"Alright fine, I'm just curious to know what you want to tell me and I don't want to fall asleep without hearing it"- She replied

"You are just too anxious and that's not good at all. Do you think I would forget about what I want to tell you even when you wake up tomorrow?"- I asked 

"No. But I'm curious to know if anything is wrong because you sounded somehow disappointed when you said you want to discuss something important with me"- She replied

"Perhaps you should let me finish my dinner before any more questions"- I replied, trying to make her keep quiet and let me enjoy my food in peace 

Women are always so inquisitive and that's the main reason why they fall into trouble. She remained silent till the chef brought her food 

  We both ate for some minutes and while we were eating, she was staring directly at my face. I don't know why she's doing that but I ignored her all through till we both finished our food 

"So now that we are done eating, can you start telling me what you want to say before we got here?"- She asked 

"Let's go to the room first, then I can be rest assured that no one would hear us because I don't want any other ear to get hold of what I'm about to tell you"- I whispered into her ears 

She held my hands and we walked up the stairs directly to our room and immediately we got to the room, she jumped on the bed like a little kid.

"Jump in baby"- She called out to me

"I'm not a kid who jumps on the bed and by the way. That's childish"- I replied

"You take things so seriously and that's why you barely have time to have fun and make yourself happy. That's not good at all"- She replied

"I take things seriously because life takes one seriously. Life doesn't give you time to have fun"- I replied

"You are right, but still we need to relax and have fun. You know life is limited"- She replied with a smile 

She wants me to jump in the bed and start playing on it like a kid but I wasn't ready for that at all.

"Let's be serious now. But I want you to tell me the truth before I go any further"- I replied, while taking my seat by the side of the bed 

"What truth do you want me to say?"- She asked 

"I know you have been communicating with Andrew ever since he left the church that day. I just want you to look me in the eye and tell me the truth"- I asked

She was shocked when i revealed when I revealed her games. I have kept quiet for long, tried to take another part by acting as a changed man, but it seems none of it is working. 

  I have to take the bull by the horns and get what I want 

"What proof do you have to support that allegation?"- She asked, looking so uncomfortable at this point

"I don't need any proof because what I'm saying is the truth. You have been chatting with him all these while and I have been the one who has been kept in the dark.

  Why would you do such a thing to your own husband?"- I asked 

"You don't understand"- She replied with a sad tone 

"What don't I understand, that you are communicating with him or that I'm being kept in the dark?"- I asked 

She looked so sad after I attacked her with some of my questions. I guess this was definitely not what she was expecting at all 

"First of all, your actions made Andrew run away with his friends. You made the poor boy look so depressed"- She called out to me with a sad voice 

"How did I make him feel depressed. Is it wrong to ask my own son to migrate to another country and take charge of my business.

  A business that sponsors everything in the family, from the luxury house to the expensive cars and jeweleries. What did I do?"- I asked 

"Your suggestion for Andrew to migrate to Nigeria and take over the company over there is definitely not a bad idea at all. But the way you brought it before him frightened the little boy.

  You made it look as if he has no other choice but to accept and follow your orders like a sheep"- She replied

"Isn't that what a son is supposed to do. Where was it written in the bible that a son should disobey his father's command. Sending him to Nigeria would not only change him, it would also make him associate with people from other parts of the world.

  Why does he want to spend his entire life in one country?"- I asked 

"He ran away because you didn't even give him time to process the idea of leaving America before you booked a flight and made arrangements for him to travel out of the country.

  You should have explained things to him in the way that he would understand, I even feel so angry with myself for just passing the information across to him without even hearing him out. You know he has a lot of friends here, a lot of memories.

Do you think it's easy to just leave everything behind when he doesn't even know if he would ever return to the same place. Have you ever thought of how he would be able to make new friends when he gets to Nigeria.

  Andrew is a shy type and he barely talks to people unless he finds a good opportunity"- She replied

She was somehow right, I never really gave a second thought to the fact that he would leave his friends behind and move to an entirely different place. And coupled with what he experienced at the office, he won't even have the motivation to work in the new company that is located in Nigeria.

"Maybe you are right, perhaps he ran away because of the way I treated him and due to the drama he experienced at his workplace"- I replied

"How do you mean. What drama?"- She asked 

"When I finished from the board meeting, one of the board members asked about Andrew because the company was in need of someone who would oversee all their activities in the company.

  He suggested that I appoint a temporary manager when I told him that Andrew went on vacation. But when the man who is going to assume Andrew's position, came into my office, he revealed something shocking to me"- I replied

My wife became so curious at this point and she was ready to do anything for me to talk 

"Please continue, stop leaving me in suspense. I don't like it at all"- She replied

"He said that Andrew encountered a lady who tried to blackmail him. At first, the lady entered his office and tried to seduce him so that she could later use it against him.

  But Andrew however declined her offer and it became obvious to her that he wasn't ready to succumb to her rules. She threatened to scream out loud and accuse him of rape. Unknown to her that they were hidden cameras in the room"- I replied

My wife facial expression gave me the impression that she was obviously shocked with what she just heard. She couldn't believe her ears at all...

"So you mean our little boy passed through all these at his place of work and he didn't even mention a word about it?"- She asked 

"I asked myself that same question and did you know that the injury on his nose was as a result of what he experienced with the lady who tried to blackmail him. I can't believe that the same lady who tried to blackmail him also works in my company as a secretary.

  That fact makes me get angry all the time and I would surely sue her to court once I can track down her location."- I replied

"Calm down first, did the lady assault him after threatening to accuse him of rape?"- She asked

"She didn't assault him. Andrew was trying to leave the room after informing her that their conservation was being recorded. So in order to protect herself, knowing fully ware that she would be sued to court.

  In an attempt to stop Andrew from leaving the room, she held unto to his legs. And Andrew fell to the ground with full force, his nose started bleeding as a result of the fall"- I replied

"You watched everything on video?"- She asked 

"Yes I did. I went straight to the ICT department which is in charge of all the security camera's within and outside the company. I watched everything for myself and it was at that moment that I realized that I might have been wrong about Andrew all this while.

  He has put in so much efforts all these months and I haven't even thanked him for his efforts but I keep heaping more work on him and giving him different orders. I really need to talk with him and amend everything back together"- I replied

My wife was silent for a while, she wasn't ready to give him access to talk to Andrew because for some reason, I can't call him with my own phone. Guess he blocked my line or something

"Please you have to tell me the truth, I won't track him down. I just want to talk to him on the phone, just call him in my presence, let me speak with him"- I called out to her again

"I promised him that I won't reveal anything to you. I'm in a tight position here"- She replied

"Will you stick to your son and leave your husband behind?. You can as well make your choice and I won't bother you again for life"- I asked 

She is so confused right now, she can't even look directly into my eyes anymore 

"You know I will stick with you till death. But what you are asking might separate the bond between me and Andrew. 

  He won't be able to ever trust me again and you know that"- She replied

"Alright, let's do it this way. Why don't you call him and talk for some time , just pretend as if nothing happened and while you guys are still talking.

  I will grab the phone and talk to him, that way he won't hold you responsible for giving me access to the call"- I replied

"That sounds okay to me. Perhaps we should even do it right now, it would look as if you just barged in and took the phone from my hand.

  It would seem like an unexpected incident"- She replied with a smile 

I'm glad she has finally agreed to let me talk with Andrew. It's time to mend the old ways and seek for something greater
