I drove through the hospital and I found it unusually quiet, it's more like whatever that has befallen has befallen the hospital.
After parking my car, I walked around to the emergency room doors. Walking in the halls I passed many nurses, some were talking among themselves. I went into one of the rooms where they had a small crowd surrounding someone. I noticed them talking and heard what they said. They said they found the person who was attacked by this thing, an infected person that had eaten a lot of meat.
I looked closer at him. he looks to be about 10 feet with gray hair. He seems scared and is shaking badly. The nurse who was telling the story turned back towards me and saw me looking. she waved her hand to get me over. I made my way over to them.
"This guy came in here not too long ago, right after they took him to surgery," She began pointing towards the man lying on the table.
She looked at me, "He says he can't remember anything before he got attacked."
The man sitting there just nods his head slightly. He turns away from the group and continues staring at the wall.
"Well that's very rude, do you have any idea what could've caused such a thing?" one nurse asked, trying to bring him out of his shell.
He shook his head again, still refusing to look at us.
"What did you say happened?" another nurse asks.
I shook my head and decided to leave the scene. I have bigger issue on my plate than for whatever issues is going on here.
As I made to leave, a nurse tagged on my shirt and I stared back at her, tiredly, my expression seems to be asking her what.
"Are you unwell, I can take you to see the doctor "
She asked concerned, at the mentioned of a doctor, Dr Emmanuel came across my mind and my expression turned from tired to anger,
I shouldn't take all the blame, it is his fault as well as mine. Who knows what if Claire is not mine knowing that Susan was screwing Dr Emmanuel and Owen. There was a huge possibility and thinking about it makes my heart turn, it hurts as hell.
I sighed and stared at the kind nurse,
"Thank you so much but I am unwell because I lost a beloved one"
She gasped and covered her tiny hands with mine,
"Accept my condolences. Life is like that, it really unfair"
I nodded and pulled my hand away from here and headed towards Susan's ward amidst the commotion going on. The hospital should do something about that man.
I took the rail and made it to the VVIPs within a few seconds.
Imagine being absent at the death of your wife, it's normal but in my case, I felt it is not entirely normal.
My head was spinning and headache was settling in.
My body stiffened when I touched the handle, the door instead of pulling got pushed and I came face to face with Dr Emmanuel leaving with the nurse assigned to Susan.
He could not meet my eyes,
"Excuse us nurse"
He said to the nurse who bowed and left,
"Oh Zain! I am sorry buddy, I did …"
I held my hand up indicating he should say no more.
"Can I get to see her now?"
"Of course"
He responded, stepping outside. I clenched my fist and stepped inside the ward then closed the door behind me.
I took in some breath and walked stride towards the bed she was laying on, covered on white bedsheet. The ward has been cleared off anyway.
I stopped right before her and slowly opened the bedsheet with my heart humming seriously. She looks so pale and lifeless, her lips turned white and with eyes closed, you would think she is sleeping, if I was not told she is dead, I would think she is not.
Her cheeks have no colour anymore nor any expression, just the whitish substance covering her skin. Her chest rises and falls a bit slowly and shallowly as if she is still breathing, but that is not true, I know it's not real.
The cold of the morning creeps up to my skin like an icy breeze, making me shiver violently, but this is nothing compared to the shock at seeing her like this. It doesn't feel normal or natural for anyone to be in such a state,to be dead.
My hand goes to her shoulder, lightly caressing it to try to find some sign to tell me that she is not dead. If there is one thing I can do to make things better, I will do anything!
