Lost In Reality

Vivian watched as the second went by. She had remained as she is since she returned from the hospital. It was like the earth has been floating and she is the balloon, watching the cloud without understanding what's going on. Alice had tried talking to her but Vivian had shued her away.

She has not eaten yet food is the last thing on her mind.

The room felt so empty. The clock ticked as the seconds ticked too and Vivian could feel how much time has gone by.

She looked up from her phone and at Alice who stood still at the door way of her bedroom. Her heart was beating faster, louder than she has ever heard it before.

Alice stood there, looking down at Vivian with her eyes wide open and lips slightly parted.

She was crying again, Alice sighed and walked up to her.

"Are you going to sit all day and mourn her? I know she doesn't deserve to die but we can't do anything about it. You have gotta be strong for her and for old time sake. Vivian put yourself together"    Alice's voice rang through her head once more. Vivian nodded and wiped her tears. Alice pulled a chair closer to Vivian and gently held her hand.

"This is why you are here, for you and her. For old times sake. We have lost too many people in this world already, it's time that you start healing. You need to move on"

Vivian closed her eyes as she felt the tears falling out again. She wanted to scream because it wasn't fair! Moving on is never an option for her.

She felt Alice take her free hand and squeezed it tight. Alice leaned over and softly kissed her forehead.

    "You can do it"

And with that she left the room.

Vivian was left alone with thoughts swirling in her brain.

They were trying to make sense out of everything but she couldn't think properly. She felt numb.

She was lost. Lost to reality as well as herself. She felt so tired; she just wanted to sleep. Maybe then things will be different when she wakes up.

Maybe she will be better off dead. It would certainly solve all her problems.

She closed her eyes, letting the darkness engulf her slowly and she drifted into an unknown world.

A gentle sound reached Vivian's ears and she opened her eyes. She saw someone hovering over her who she could not make out who he is.

She yawned, then looked around. She was lying on the cold floor with a sticky face.

Her brain registered the stranger and she cursed.

"What is he doing in my bedroom, doesn't he know what it means for privacy?"

She thought and turned towards David,

"You better leave my house this minute"

She grumpily said and tried getting up from the floor. A warm hand came on her waist and pulled her up.

  "Be careful,you might fall"

David said with his deep voice with a silly grin on his face. Vivian shoved him aside and steadied herself.

"I am fine thank you very much, David." she said and tried walking back to her bed. This time she managed to stand upright.

"Please leave my room"

She maintained. David seeing she was seriously bent on throwing him out, stopped grinning and sighed.

"Look, I know something is wrong with you and as a neighbor I am, I am just making sure you are fine"

He explained and took a few steps forward.

  Vivian raised her eyebrow,

"Do you really think I can tell you what is wrong with me? And why are you even concerned in the first place?" she retorted and folded her arms. David raised his brows and crossed his arm

"I care about you,"

He gasped when the words left his word.

Vivian stared at him shocked and confused, did he mean he really cared about her? She felt butterflies inside her stomach, she didn't want to admit it out loud, maybe he didn't mean it. But his reaction told her he does.

David saw the confusion written on her face and cleared his throat nervously. He rubbed the back of his neck and let a nervous smile on his face.

"Look I'm sorry if I sounded harsh or whatever I just thought you were having a bad time or something and checking on you was all I wanted to do." He paused and stared at her then continue,

"I don't know why you hate me this much, I have tried so much to get close to you but each time, you kept pushing me away."

He mumbled the final part under his breath.
