There Might Be No Next Time

Vivian stared at him speechless until the realization dawned on her.

Was that what he had been trying to tell her this whole time? Vivian bit her lip hard to control her emotions while a million questions ran inside her mind.

What now? Does he have feelings for her?

Is she supposed to reciprocate those feelings?

Vivian's mind went blank and she couldn't find any coherent thoughts at all. It wasn't until he spoke again and she snapped out of the trance she was in

"I am sorry,"

He said and looked away from Vivian.

"But I'm just worried about you,"

He added in a small whisper. He looked at her again and gave her a sad smile.

Vivian stood still and tried to collect her thoughts.

Does he really like me? Why does it matter if he does or not?.

"So can you tell me now what's going on with you"

He said walking closer to her. Vivian involuntarily stepped back, he noticed how scared she looked.

"Well nothing"

Vivian stuttered trying to find the best words for what happened.

"Come on, it must be bothering you"

He insisted on taking another step toward Vivian. Vivian took another step backwards as fast as she could.

"No!"

She shouted and backed further away.

"Why are you being so nice ?" she yelled and took a couple of breaths before speaking again "It's just..it's just-"

"-just...?"

She trailed off.

"It's hard I guess," Vivian shrugged.

"Why? What happened?" David asked, Vivian took one last glance at him and sighed in defeat.

"I lost a dear friend" she said and started playing with the ends of her hair as she spoke.

"I am so sorry dear"

David said as he pulled her into a hug. She has stopped moving back now and let him hug her. She felt calm in his arm and inhaled deeply. when Alice hugged her, it wasn't close to what she is feeling now.

It was comforting, familiar almost. Vivian buried her face to the crook of David's neck and breathed in deeply.

Vivian broke away from the embrace and smiled weakly at him.

"Thank you" she said softly as she picked up the forgotten blanket on the ground beside the bed. She folded the blanket and dropped at the edge of her bed and looked up at David.

"I think I will be fine, you don't need to stand there and watch me"

She said dismissively.

"Sorry I can't leave you like this. You look like you have not eaten a thing today and knowing you are not pushing me away again, I would try to stay near until you decided you don't want to see me around, how about that?"

He was afraid of leaving and coming back to see her giving him her old attitude. Women are unpredictable and he doesn't want to lose his chances with her again. If getting closer to her right now not minding she is mourning is what he has to do then he is doing it, There might not be next time.

She might not like him too but maybe she would give a shoot at it later.

"I don't know David, I really need to be alone and about food, I would find something to eat."

David sighed,

"Okay, let me at least get you something to eat. I would not be at peace if I leave here with the thought you are hungry and not knowing when you will get something to eat."

He said looking straight at her with a pleading expression.

"Alright "

She mumbled. He walked to her, placed a kiss on her forehead and left her room. When he closed the door behind himself she sighed heavily,

He cares for me? How can he love me? She thought as she looked at the ceiling. Her lips slightly curved upwards in a half smile despite her state of mind.

Writer's point of view...

Tasha stood in front of the Zidat building clutching her Suitcase. Despite all that has happened between her and Jenny, she decided to come here and comfort her friend. She might stay a day or two, depending on how things go.

She has been wondering who has those cars parked outside and it dawned on her that it might be friends of the family.

She walked through the front door without knocking because it was open and came face to face with Jenny, the tray of soup Jenny had with her slipped off her hand and splattered everywhere.
