Essence

Zain's point of view…

I watched through the window as Jenny bid Lucas farewell. I wasn't smiling at all.

"What the hell was he doing here anyway?"

I mumbled and kicked the air.

"Easy Mr Zidat. You are not the only one who has eyes for good things"

I did not realize someone else was in the room with me.

"Tasha, what are you doing in my room?"

I asked turning around to face her. She was smirking.

"Making sure you did not come out of your room to disrupt our visitor. It's quite unfortunate that he did not stay longer. Don't you think they look good together?"

She said walking to and fro with her hands behind her back. To me she wasn't making any sense. If she was not at breakfast when I engaged Jenny, I would have understood her plight.

"You do realize that you are my house?"

I reminded her in case she has forgotten.

"How can I forget that I am right under the same roof as Mr Zidat, the one that nearly sent my best friend to death because he broke up with her and married the sister instead. Sometimes I wonder what men really want, how can you ditch a girl and she would still be a fool to accept you back. I blame love for it."

She said with a shrug.

"if I am Jenny I will run very far away from you because as far as I am concerned, you don't deserve her. We make mistakes, right but with people's emotion? It matters a lot"

She added.

"I want to understand where you are heading with this talk of yours?"

I could not help asking. The girl really has got some guts.

"I am heading nowhere, just reminding you that you don't deserve my best friend. She has really gone through a lot for you and she doesn't need anyone who would break her heart for the second time. in case you are planning to do so, refrain now because if you dare hurt my best friend ever again, I swear it, you will have me to contend with you"

She warned me and with a flip of her hand, she left the room.

I stared right at the door expecting Jenny to Walk through the door any moment.

I hate to admit this but Tasha was right. I have been a jerk and whatever that she said to me, I accept it.

Ever since I realized that I can't do without Jenny,my biggest fear has been losing her.

Making her mine would not stop me from losing her, engaging her would still not stop me from losing her.

I have been a fool for so long now. I just have to find a way to make her understand that I am still the guy who loved her as a minor. I might have been so foolish to let her go before, I will never do it again.

I promised myself.

Writer's point of view….

For the past one hour, Mercy had remained unconscious and the Kingstons were worried. They are not the only ones worried, Francis and Owen are too. For unknown reasons, Owen was more worried. He can't tell why but he just wants the girl to open her eyes, maybe because she has been the reason he is still at the hospital. Kulture had called to ask about the situation at the hospital and she was advised to stay home and take care of the baby. She had no choice but to stay back. The baby is too tender to be exposed like that.

The door opened and Dr Matthew walked in with his stethoscope hanging around his neck. He looked from Francis to Owen then rested his gaze on the couple. The air around was chilly and if did not know any better, he would have mistaken the ward as a graveyard. “Hello everyone” no one said a word and he did not know to elevate the mood.

He shook his head and walked over to mercy who lay still on the bed and examined her, that moment mercy opened her eyes slowly and stared at the blurry figure in her front. She tried to make out the noise in the background but her mind felt fergie. A smile broke out of the doctor’s face as he saw mercy opening her eyes.

“Hello!can you hear me?” he said, alerting others in the room. Before he could say anything, everyone had rounded the bed. The joy on the couple’s faces seeing their daughter open her eyes for the second time was unexplainable.

Mercy groaned trying to shade her eyes from the bright light.

“Can you give her a little space, little me check her state?” Dr Mathew said and they all shifted back a little. Dr Matthew took his time on checking her. He found out that she is stable enough and that's a good thing. She is really responding to treatment and he can't be much happier. The joy of every doctor is seeing his or her patient being nurse back to life. It is the essence of their profession.
