Second Chance

“She is safe and sound but please minimize the noise around her. Allow her  to adjust to her new heart and don't bother her with questions, please” Dr Mathew said after he was done checking mercy up. They all sighed relievely and after thanking Dr Mathew enough, he left the ward.

Mr Kingston was the first to walk forward and smiled lovely at his daughter,” welcome back darling. You had us all worried” mercy smiled and shifted her gaze to her mother. She has come to terms with her environment. A tear dropped from her eyes when she realized she had been given a second chance at life. She is not going to die like she had thought.

“Mom!’’ she muttered.

“Yes dear,I am right here’’ Mrs Kingston said, offering her hand to her daughter who took it and smiled in her tears, “so I am going to leave after all?”

Her voice was shaky and her lips quivering, a hug would have been the best thing to give her at the moment but the medical equipments around her would not give way so all Mrs Kingston could do was squeeze her hands and assured her that it's fine.

"You don't know how happy we are that you will not be sick anymore. All thanks to Mr Francis here"

Mrs Kingston said, pointing at Francis. Francis smiled and walked up to the couple and their daughter.

  "Glad, to have you back"

Mercy nodded and stared past him. Her gaze rested on Owen who was clearly not present in the room with them.

He was in deep thought that he did not realize the three pairs of eyes on him.

"Why would she have her stares on him, this is the second time she is doing this?"

Francis wondered,

"Could they know each other"

He wondered again.

The couple had almost the same thoughts running through their mind.

   "Owen?"

Owen jerked up and found everyone looking at him. He was confused as to why he had to be the center of attraction instead of the lady that cheated death. He also realizes that the lady was not left out at the staring competition.

"Did something happen to my face?"

He asked, confused. No one answered which prompted him to move forward.

"We are just wondering why Mercy keeps looking at you. Do you both know each other?"

Mrs Kingston voiced out, looking at her husband who in return nodded his head in affirmation to her question.

Mercy stretched her right hand towards Owen and Owen reluctantly took it. He felt connected to her somehow.

Mercy sighed and closed her eyes leaving everyone bewired at her action. Owen made to drop her hand but she held it firmly.

What he was feeling is something he can't explain.

"Why do I feel like I know this lady?"

He asked himself confused.

"Who is he and why am I feeling like we have known ourselves for long?"

Mercy found herself wondering in her head.

"You know the doctor said we should let her be?"

Francis commented and Owen managed to pull his hand from Mercy.

"I think we should pull up at home. We have been here for a while now and my Friend really needs to rest"

Mr Kingston nodded at what Francis said.

"That's great, Kulture is at home and she would..?"

He stopped talking when he remembered that Kulture is really not free right now because of the baby he found this morning.

He had told his wife who agreed that Dr Matthew would check her up later. Knowing that Kulture would need to rest for her to go to work earlier, he thought it wise to let the wife go home.

"There is nothing worse that can happen now."

He thought," Besides, nurses are here so I can take care of Mercy."

"I think I should go home with you too. I have been here for a long time now. Let me stretched a little"

Mrs Kingston said out of the blue, beating her husband to it, surprising Owen and Francis. Francis exchanged glances with Owen then looked at the couple.

"If Mrs Kingston is going home because of us. There is no need, we can manage"

Francis tried reasoning.

Mrs Kingston chuckled,

"Not at all, I need to feel a breath of fresh air on my skin. All I have done since is breathe in the hospital air. I am not going home because of you both"

It was a relief to Francis and Owen.

Mrs Kingston bent over mercy and whispered to her,

"I need to go home darling. Your daddy will be here to take care of you"

When she did not answer, it dawned on her that Mercy is sleeping.

"Son, drive carefully. I will see you all later"

Mr Kingston said ushering them to the door.

  "Alright, honey see you later"

Mrs Kingston kissed her husband and Mr Kingston closed the door after waving them goodbye.
