Typical Mom

   I walked through the door and halted. The door was slightly opened so I was able to open it noiselessly.

  She was cooking and it's my favorite, oat meal. Looks like she misses me and she decided to prepare the meal for her so she doesn't miss me much.

  I am just so glad she is okay, that b*stard did not harm her.

   I dropped my handbag on one of the dining chairs and walked towards the kitchen, tiptoeing.

  She was having her back on me, facing the pot and stirring the content inside. Her hair was packed up and she had one of her favorite red long gowns on.

   I saw her back stiffened and she swiftly turned towards me. I stood moving and stared at her speechless. Her expression turned from rigid to surprise then to mild.

  She walked towards me in a flash and engulfed me in her arms,"oh! My baby! I have missed you so much."

She said rocking me to and fro.

  I had to check my brain to remember when I saw her last and it was yesterday. How come she misses me so much?

  "Mom, I missed you too"

I said and she stopped hugging me. Her stares lingered on my face for a while"what are you doing here and why did you not tell me you are coming?"

  I blinked twice not knowing where to start. She turned to the burner and switched it off then pulled one of the kitchen stools and made me sit on it.

  "You can talk now. I don't have issue with you coming back but why did you not let me know"

She stated. I looked up at her face and I saw no anger in it. 

  We locked eyes for a moment and she brought her face down then stared at my engagement ring finger, "Where is your engagement ring, Jenny. Did Zain ditch you again for another lady?"

I felt warmth in my heart. She thought Zain is the one at fault here.

  "No mummy, I left him"

  "Oh! My!"

She exclaimed, holding her heart, "why?"

"I don't know mummy maybe because I felt I can't love him like I used to. He left me before. He did not make me his first choice and that, I am still mad at him and believe me when I say I don't love him like I used to, I mean it"

I replied, hoping she will buy my little lies for now. I was tired and what I need now is a hot bath and food but I can't escape her questioning me.

 "Jenny, were you made to leave him?"

She suddenly asked and I looked up immediately and I saw something I can't understand in her eyes.

  "You can't just wake up a day after your engagement with him and think it's not going to work out between you two. It is a possibility but then in your case, it's not"

"Mom, what do you mean?"

I asked even when I know she is right and she knows something. She was kidnapped and brought back unharmed so it's right for her to think something with her kidnap has to do with Zain and I.

  "I mean, you were forced to leave Zain. If not, what then can explain my kidnap?"

"What! Mummy, you were kidnapped?"

I asked, sounding surprised and she glared at me.

 "Don't play such games with me. You know I was kidnapped and I am beginning to think you were kidnapped as well. I had to call you several times yesterday and your line never went through and here you are back home. What did they make you do?"

   I was sure there was no hiding for me. She knows half of what I know and it will be better if she hears everything once and for all.

  She drew another stool and sat opposite me"now tell me, what's going on?"

  I looked at mummy and brought my face down, where am I going to start from. From where I was kidnapped or what? Where exactly?.

  "Jenny, whatever it is, you have got to let me know. We can find a solution together" she insisted and I nodded my head, sighing.

  "I was asked to leave Zain or else, you will die. I had no choice but to do it. Zain did something to one of his friends and he is bent on making him pay by me breaking up with him. You know that is going to break him to pieces,right?"

  Mom nodded and took my hands in hers"Your happiness matters to me, you shouldn't have chosen me over your happiness"

I felt bad hearing her say that. Typical mom, always looking out for others. I know she was not the only one involved here but then if it was her, I would still choose her over me.

 "Mummy, there something else you need to know"

I said and that moment, the doorbell rang.
