"Oh goodness, help me. I don't want my kids to hate me after this"
A choked sob escaped from my lips and soon after I started crying. I sat silently, feeling miserable. My heart clenched knowing how much pain they will feel.
"Mom, we are waiting"
Michael yelled from outside my door. I quickly dried my tears, sniffed back my tears and fixed my hair then stood up.
"I am coming already"
I said and adjusted my black Pants. I wore a gray tank top to match my pants and mood.
I took a long stroll out of the room.
Getting to the dining room, my nostril caught a whiff of something delicious cooking. The aroma of the food made my mouth water. It reminded me how hungry I was.
I looked at Michael and Mitchell as both sat quietly sharing a look only two of them understood. Michael smiled and Mitch puffed her cheeks. I have not forgotten that she is angry with me.
"So what are we having for breakfast?"
I asked, settling down opposite them. I had thought I would prepare breakfast but then things changed. I don't have to do the cooking and others chores anymore. It started yesterday.
"Miss Setory made some waffles"
Michael informed me proudly.
"Wow! Really! That is amazing!"
I exclaimed, looking at him.
"Good morning madam"
Miss Setory said, stepping out of the kitchen carrying a bowl.
"Morning. I see you are up and doing. What do you have in there?"
I asked, pointing at the bowl.
"Humm. Eggs and bacon. There will be coffee later"
I nodded at her. She placed the bowl and smiled.
"Mitchell requested for waffles and that's why I made it. I hope it's okay by you"
Her tone was kind and polite.
"Ofcourse dear.. Whatever my kids ask for, give them. Remember they have not been eating what you make so it's a privilege for them to finally allow you to cook for them"
Miss Setory gave me another warm smile before turning around and heading back inside the kitchen.
"Mom, you don't have to say that. She was clearly embarrassed"
Michael pointed out and I raised my brows.
"I never meant any harm when I said that and besides she understood. I am wondering why you think she was embarrassed"
Michael rolled his eyes,"of course I can see"
Was his simple reply.
I shook my head.
"Kids"
I mumbled and focused my eyes on the bowl that Setory dropped. My stomach growled loudly at the sight of the beacon and I felt like devouring it.
"Mom, you looked like you did not eat last night?"
Mitchell asked suddenly and I turned to her. It surprised me that she asked me that when it's clearly that she is angry with me. Well, she is her mother's daughter. I can swear she is pretending to be angry. She just wants me to know her stand about the gist. That's why she is fussing about it.
"No"
The reply left my mouth and I regretted it. She might think something went wrong last night. I obviously went out for a dinner date, so it was expected of me to eat.
"I mean yes."
I quickly said.
"I doubt it, mummy. If you ate like you claimed, you would not be looking so hungry right now. You did not eat and that is it . I am not going to ask you why you did not eat even when you went out for a dinner date."
She said sternly while glaring at me, how well she knows me.
I had no idea how to answer. I had no words. She kept glaring at me with that look. I could not help but feel like I was about to get scolded. I didn't dare to look at either of them as my guilt rose inside me.
Since I did not know what to say or let's say, I did not want to lie, I kept quiet instead.
Miss Setory reappearance inside the dining room gladdened my heart. Any questions rising will be unasked and I was so relieved because I won't be answering them or so I thought.
"I wonder what kind of a gentleman will take someone out on a date and starve them."
Michael said, looking at Mitchell.
"He is not good for mummy, if I see him here he would receive a tongue lashing"
Mitchell added. It looked like they were discussing someone other than me. How they did it effortlessly without involving me.
