Miss Setory focused on getting to the table while my eyes followed her every move, trying to ignore my two teenage kids talking about me. I had hoped that they would drop the matter, but no. They were still discussing me.
"It's better she stays single than to date a man who can't buy her a meal. Why couldn't she eat before leaving the house yesterday. Now, she is so hungry that she can eat a bowl of beacon"
Mitchell chipped in, making me roll my eyes in annoyance. Miss Setory looked confused for a few seconds and then came to my rescue.
"Michael and Mitchell, do you know it's not nice to talk before and during meals?"
Miss Setory reprimanded, placing a beacon on each of their plates.
"If dad was alive, she would not have meant such a man"
Mitchell added again, ignoring Miss Setory. I looked up at the cook and she looked hurt. I muttered sorry to her and she nodded then continued what she was doing.
"I can agree with you on that. I think we should hook her up with that male teacher of yours. At least he would be a gentleman enough not to starve her"
My jaw dropped and Miss Setory shook her head as she poured hot chocolate for each of them.
"Really guys? I am now invisible to you both?"
I asked, annoyed.
They looked at each other and then shrugged.
"Michael, I think I am hungry now"
Mitchell said like I had not said something.
I would have to get used to this attitude from them because I will be seeing a lot more of it by the time I am done talking with them.
"I am starving too. Mummy can watch us or she joins us"
Michael added and both started eating, ignoring me totally.
"Ma'am, your breakfast"
Setory said and I lowered my eyes to my breakfast.
"Thank you"
I thanked her. I was feeling worse than I felt earlier.
Silence descended as we began eating our breakfast.
"Writer's point of view....
Claire stood with her hand akimbo, staring from her grandma to her aunt, Kulture. She could not believe her ears. She has asked for permission to just go round the town and the two of them had bluntly refused her with a lame excuse. The silence that came from the refusal was deafening. The dining room suddenly looked like a graveyard.
The breakfast has went by without a single drama to surprise of Claire and she had thought that for the fact that she is asking for a favor for the first time, her grandma would grant her but she had thought wrong, not that she did not know what was going to be the answer from the beginning when Susan suggested. Her grandma is unbelievable.
Mr Kingston looked angry at his wife. He did not understand why his wife was bent on frustrating the young girl.
If the girl says she wants to see around, she should be permitted. Her driver is here, he could take her round. It was a good thing that for the first time, Claire is trying to be homely and Friendly with them, unlike her previous visit yet, his wife would choose to be a witch.
"Grandma, I don't care what you say but I have to go out. It's not like you want me here. Why you would not want to let me go baffles me"
Claire stated, clearly irritated.
Mr Kingston sighed deeply. This is a problem he has to solve. He has to find a way to make his wife permit the girl. Claire is not even helping matters, instead of begging, she is yelling. Rich kids and manners.
"My dear, just let her go. Her driver will take her around. It's not a big deal"
Mr Kingston persuaded his wife. Kulture looked up at her father, "Dad, if Claire has nothing to do, let her go to her room and lock herself up. This is not her father's mansion that she would give orders anyhow."
Claire rolled her eyes.
She was starting to lose it. Her granddad has to be the reason she is still calm. She respects him.
"With all due respect, Aunt. You can't keep me against my will. Back home, mom, dad and uncle listen to me. You and grandma have to listen to me. I am not doing anything wrong, I am just asking for permission to go out and see the town, it's not too much to ask."
Kulture rolled her eyes and stood up, leaving the dining room. She has not taken more than three steps when the doorbell rang.
