Feeling Betrayed

Writer's point of view…..

The silence that met the study after Jenny left was indescribable. Mitchell was not crying anymore and Michael, he was entirely confused. Nothing was making sense to both of them. They have heard their mom is getting married, it was heartbreaking enough and now this, it feels like jokes are being told to them. This is not what they subscribed for today.

They are far from knowing how to react.

One thing is to live in a lie, another is to find out that that truth you believed all your life was part of the lie being told to you and that same lie would turn out to be your truth. And suddenly, things will not look the same again.

Mitchelle slowly sat back on her seat. Michael, seeing how miserable she is, pulled her seat to his side and gathered her in his arms. It looks like it has to be just them from now on.

They did not ask for this. The painful part is, they have no idea why all these are happening. Each of them is feeling betrayed by their mom.

"I can't believe my whole life was a lie, Michael"

Mitchell sobbed on her brother's chest as her brother stroked her hair.

"It will be alright, sis"

Michael muttered quietly into her ear. He knows this is hurting her the most. How is she supposed to cope with everything right now? She does not want to believe what happened. No matter how hard she tries, she can' t stop feeling betrayal.

"I am so shocked right now. Mom can do this to us. No!"

"I know right. I am sorry about this."

He consoled her. Mitchell is not the only one that needs consoling, Michael needs too but he is trying to be strong for both of them. His heart is shattering not just because he was betrayed by his own mom but also by his sister 's pitiable state. This is going to have a mental effect on Mitchelle and he knows this.

Mitchelle is not so strong like him and that's why he is afraid.

"You don't have to be sorry for what's not your fault. Mom should be the one apologizing"

Michael smiled at what his sister said.

"Unfortunately, that apology will not be coming anytime soon. We will find away to live with this. I love you and we will pass this phase, alright"

Mitchell pulled away from her brother's embrace then stared at him with her tear filled eyes.

"No Micheal, I am not accepting this. Mom has to explain to me why. She can't suddenly wake up and tell us that our dad is alive without giving us a reason why she lied to us for fifteen years. Who does that?"

She screamed.

Michael sighed and stood up.

"Listen Mitchell, mom's explanation would not make a difference. It's better we don't find out why. You might not be able to handle why she did what she did. We can decide to forget about this and pretend it never happened and continue living our lives like nothing has happened. After all, we have lived without a dad for so long, it will not make a difference now"

Instead of Micheal's statement to calm her down, it infuriated her.

"No, this is unacceptable. I wouldn't accept this. Mom will have to tell us all we need to know. What can be worse than having learnt we have a dad. Or do you think what we will find out next is she is not our mom. It wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be so"

Micheal closed his eyes and sighed.

"Mitchell please. I know you are upset but let's not push this further. Let's leave this the way they are and if possible, erase them totally. We are doing just fine. Whatever has happened would not change the fact that mom has been there for us. I am not in support of what she did,I just feel we let things be. The least we can do now is go through the file and find out who dad is. If we like, we can pay him a visit and tell him he has grown up kids."

Mitchell chuckled in her tears,"And where does that leave it out? Did it occur to you that he is married with kids? Do you think that his family would want anything to do with us? Ha!"

She laughed bitterly.

"What else could we do?"

Michael questioned sadly.
