Don't touch me dad, I regret the fact that I am your daughter. I will never forgive you for killing my mother, you are a monster that need to be out behind bars forever!" Mish hollored with anger as tears streamed down her cheeks.
She scoffed then said,"I am sorry dad but I hope you rote in jail the same way my mother is rotting in her grave" Mish said as she wiped tears that were flowing uncontrollably out of her eyes. She turned to Ivana and said," Let's go Ivana I have no business with the murderer here."
Ivana looked at her uncle apolegitically as she shaked her head in disagreement then walked out of the police station.
Mr Mukhongo looked at the silhouette of Mish then regretted not owning up his crime at that time that it happened. Maybe the police officers would have understoond him then reduced his jail term. But for him he is going to rote in jail after wasting millions of money in bribery. He have lost both things his freedom and the money.
'if I would have told the police the truth at that time, I would have been at a good place. Maybe I would have been forgiven and my daughter would have been proud of me," he thought as he wiped the tears.
He sat down on the floor, his head held in his hands bowed and his back leaning on the wall as he continued thinking.
'Why did I believe her? Why did I trust her with the gun. I wish I would have thrown it in the river. No need to regret I was a fool here and it's a high time I accept that and was a fool a d own up my mistake,' he thought.
"Steve Mukhongo follow me," the officer in charge said to him.
Mr Mukhongo stood up tiredly as he followed him, they walked for a distance of one hundred meters before they arrived at a store room.
"I am going to give you the uniform that you are going to charge into.
He gave him jail uniform, a yellow t-shirt,pullover and trouser. The t-shirt was written inmate at the back and his inmate number. After that he was required to write in the book his name and the items he was having before going to jail room. He wrote in the book his name, inmate number and the things he had left, that's is his three piece black suit, black shoes, a rolex watch and a cell phone.
"I will keep this for you, you will pick them after your jail term is over," the police officer in charge said as he took the item and placed them in a drawer.
"What if I never get out?" Mr Mukhongo asked.
"Why do you say so, have positive mind. You are going to court after three days. So prepare your lawyer, evidence and Testimonials," the police officer said.
"I guess I will have to rote in jail," he murmured to himself remembering what Mish told him.
He was given a plate, a spoon and a cup then the police officer in charge took him to the jail room. When they arrived there the inmates started clapping happily as they have received a new inmate that they will be harrassing.
The moment he was shown his bed, one of the inmate who was feared most, walked towards him. Mr Mukhongo was making his bed when someone tapped on his shoulder. He didn't ignore it as he turned to look at him.
Although the person who was standing before him was young compared to him. He was intimidated by his looks, he appeared very fierce and dangerous.
"Hey what is your name and what are you doing here?" He asked.
Mr Mukhongo wanted to reprimand him for talking rudely to him but he remembered he was inside the jail and anything can happen so he acted to be polite.
"I am Steve Mukhongo and I am here to serve my jail term,"he replied politely.
"Hahaaaaa look at this fela here, he is ready to serve jail term?! What is your crime?"he asked with pride.
'What's wrong with this young man, can't he see that I am older than him. He should address me with respect,'Mr Mukhongo thought. He was about to turn back and continue making his bed when a hot slaps ladded on his cheek.
Slap! "When I ask you any questions you should answer me immediately!" That inmate commanded.
Before he could think of retaliating, some two body build inmates walked and stood behind that inmate. It was like a warning to him not try anything stupid.
"I killed my wife," he answered after realizing that he might not end well when he fights back.
"That's perfect, so I think you are fit to join my group. Not as easy as you think, you will go through some test fast," that inmate said as he turned ready to leave.
Mr Mukhongo wordered who he was to cammand him around. So he opted to tell him his mind.
"Young man, you won't tell me what to do. You are an inmate like me and that's make us equal. I don't want to join any group, I just want to serve my jail term peacefully," he replied courageously.
"Heeeh! Hehee...I think I will be forced to forgive you on the accounts of you are a new comer. Don't ever address me as young man,! My name is general. Secondly, we are not equal in this room, you have arrived today while I have spend two years here. I hope you understand what I mean with we are not equal.
Thirdly you are very lucky that I have asked you to join my group. Alot of inmates here have asked me to recruit them but I have not agreed, be grateful. Fouth never question my decision or anything," he explained then walked away.
