Chapter 7

“You can stop pretending father, it's getting on my nerves”, I dropped my spoon on the table intending to walk out on him, consequences be damned. It's one thing to work out admission for me and another to lie about it.

He brought out a golden envelope, “read through the content and accuse me of something I didn't do nor thought of doing. It's a disgrace to any royal family's name if they are caught participating in bribery.

It's a corrupt practice and I wouldn't stoop so low as to be caught condoning it, not even for you my only son, I wouldn't dare disgrace our family's name.”

I can tell he was angry by the way he clenched his fist on the spoon he was holding.

I took the envelope and tore through the seal to reach the content.

“I didn't know I was harbouring a destroyer inside my palace”, his tune, although hard, had an amused undertone.

I read past through their address and whatnot.

Prince Buchim Igali Dochie Alpparex of Ugali kingdom,

This letter might come as a shock to you, since you were written off from the list on the day of the test.

The videotapes of the test were re-watched by the board of directors, and we deduced you were holding back during the power test, we believe you are more capable than you let on and that you will realize your true potential in our prestigious academy.

We're aware of your magic-less statues, and we can feel the aura of your powers hovering around you, waiting to be freed from its prison, and we know our academy can help with that.

You're specially invited by the head of directors himself, and we hope you will know the gravity of the situation.

If your powers are left untapped, it might be not only a danger to you as the host, but to people around you.

If your powers are left unchecked and untrained, you might endanger the world.

Not only that, but you'll be seen as a threat to us, you will be.

We look forward to being graced by your presence on the day of resumption.

Signed,

Headmistress.

I reread the letter trying to find a loophole in it, I looked up at my smug father.

“See?, I had no hand whatsoever in your admission, the decision was all theirs”, he smirked.

I can tell he's probably exhausted from dancing inwardly, dad has made no secret of his wish that I study at the academy.

The academy as it stands is my only ticket to being alive, as was carefully stated in the letter, and it's also my only hope of ruling someday.

In Makoha, any prince unworthy of attending the academy is unworthy of ruling their kingdom.

“I would rather not attend the academy”, I said stubbornly, the spoon he was clenching previously clattered to the floor, and he angrily stood up.

“Buchim Igali Dochie Alpparex, I won't repeat my words, so listen carefully, you are attending the academy whether you like it or not”.
