Chapter 6

I took another small bite.

I was famished when I woke up, but the news of my admission into Habigalima Academy dampened my mood and took my appetite with it.

“What do you think of attending Habigalima Academy?” Father asked, his expression clearly showing how thrilled he is by that prospect

I can tell he's trying to bait me, “it's a prestigious school and those lucky enough to be admitted into it are not only lucky but strong and gifted”

I put a little emphasis on the strong and gifted, to remind him of my magic-less state, in case he'd forgotten.

He doesn't know Kwofo have already told me about my admission; otherwise, he wouldn't be beating around the bush, he will just be up and forward with it.

“Son, you know the school isn't only for the gifted and talented ones, those who haven't uncovered theirs will be guided through the unleashing process. There was a boy from Rete that unleashed his powers three weeks before graduation, it was a miracle and his gift was like no other than elemental control”.

I shrugged nonchalantly, “it makes no difference, I wasn't accepted. The examiners called out the result after the interview, and I wasn't among those chosen for this year's academic session.”

Only if it's the truth, I seriously hope it will be the case, I would rather not leave this palace for a place I know nothing of but have heard tales of it, and must I say the tales I heard about the academy are as scary as Okumu (their version of hellfire), it's an Okumu on Makoha for those with magic, talk more of those without?

Father smiled in a way I haven't seen him do since mom's death.

I would have loved to keep that smile on his face, but if attending the academy is the price for that, I rather not.

“You were admitted into this year's academic section, a letter came in this morning, bearing your letter of admission and their requirements. Son, I'm so proud of you, you've made me happier than I have in ages”

If this man was to be an actor, he will be so sought after that he might dig a pit and fall into it, if I didn't know I failed the test, I would have thought his happiness genuine. I know he worked for me to attend that school, but to pretend is so childish.

“Stop acting, I'm not a director, and neither am I shooting a movie. You were the one who worked the admission process, I'm confident I failed it, so you can't fool me with you am proud of you son”, I accused the five-star actor, how can he act so proud when he was the one who bribed my way into the academy in the first place?

He looked confused, “I don't get what you're insinuating, how can I work your admission into a school that accepts nothing but the best? You can't bribe your way into Habigalima, if it were possible, there will be more people attending instead of attending 50 students per academic year”.
