“The academy as a school isn't my problem, neither is their root my fears, I'm afraid of those schooling in it. I haven't met a werewolf nor have I seen a vampire, I don't know what to expect from them. The only things I know of them, I got from the numerous books I've read, and you know how fictitious most authors are. Most of what they write in their books is just superstitious, not all of them tell the truth as it is, most write to please their audience,” I complained as I walked towards the garden, this was my mom's favourite place in the whole of Ugali.
She was the one that nurtured most of the flowers, especially the roses, when she passed on, and I inherited her favourite place and made it mine.
Right now, it's my best place in the entire world.
“I will be there to help you navigate through your new life, you don't have to worry you have a friend in me”, my eyes sparkled with unrepressed happiness.
“ Does that mean we're friends?” I asked with a smile.
He laughed at my hopeful expression.
“Yes we are, I'm glad to see the smile returning to your face, your smile lights up the sky.
When you frown, the sky frowns with you, and when you laugh, it laughs with you.”
I sat on the bench and Kwofo stood contemplating for a minute before he shrugged and sat beside me, I looked up at him in surprise
“Friends remember?”, He smiled.
If attending the academy will earn me the friendship I long for, then the result is worth the sacrifice.
“You know, I've wanted to attend the academy since I learned of it.
It has always been a dream of mine to attend the prestigious academy”, Kwofo never initiates a conversation with me, and for him to do just that will mean he's taking this friendship as a thing seriously.
“Why haven't you applied for the test?
Moreover, if I can recall accurately, you were with me on the day I filled out the form for the test and on the day I want for the test, why didn't you indicate you would have loved to take the test.
I would have paid for you had you asked”, I don't understand the way he sometimes reasons, how can a person be silently dying without giving others an indication?
He nodded, “it was my dream before I learned of my family's oath of service to the highest royal family. I don't regret serving you, but I can't help but try to imagine how my life would have been if my family wasn't tied by an oath”.
He's been the best aide a prince can dream of having.
He takes his work seriously even to the extent of doing the Jobs intended for others, I felt sorry for him. I never knew of this, before our friendship started, he'd been so secretive towards anything about his Family.
Indeed, I can't free him from the oath, an oath of service sworn is bidding to the grave, it extends to your children and children's children. The oath he was talking off was sworn to my great-grandfather by his great-grandfather and until now, after their deaths, the oath still stands.
