CHAPTER 24

Martin tried as much as he could to hide his fury.

" She must ! She must be!" Those were the only things that Martin said as he jealousy walked around the hallway.

Lady Akeshia and Lady Nana entered the hallway carrying bottles of alcohol and wine glasses. They served the chief and two elders but Martin warned them that he will not take any alcohol for the sake of his wife.

" Why do you value her too much? These women are just here to make us feel like we are not men anymore. They are always degraded in the society. Don't value her too much" said the chief smiling.

" Don't speak slightly of women especially my wife. Maybe it is your woman who is on the lowest level in the society" said Martin laughing annoyingly.

He just told this Martin in order to offend him . Anyway, he was still filled with a lot of fury but did not want it to be too noticeable.

" Do not think highly of yourself Martin. Now....I only came to talk about business. What did you consider about the offer of giving me the closer gates? I want this small town of yours to be mine" said the chief smiling.

" There is no way that I will ever give you the closer gates. This small town that you refer it to is my life. I have been intending to spend most part of my life here. You cannot have the closer gates and there is a main reason why"

" What could be the main reason why? Why can't I really have the closer gates as my own? Is it because of that woman you call a wife?Women! Women ! Women! They always find their way to bring us men down" said the chief laughing annoyingly.

" Because Ruth is Magdalene's grandmother. You and I both know that until now we do not know what happened to Magdalene. And that is the main reason why most people call her a witch. The woman who dissapeared without a trace" said Martin a bit worried.

" What! How could she be her granddaughter? How did you both end up getting married to each other? Don't you all think that this is very dangerous to us. What about the cell of hell? " Said Chief a bit astonished.

" Let fate take it's course. Now.....leave my house. I do not really think that there is something else to discuss. There is no way I will ever give the closed gates away. I am leaving to my wife. It has been long since I left her. Such women deserve special attention and special love" said Martin who left the hallway.

He had no idea that all this while Ruth had been listening to their conversation. She wondered why Magdalene's name made everyone in the closed gates and outside closed gates to be shaken.

Yet Naomi said that her grandmother died. She needed answers and believed that it is only her mother who would give the answers to all her numerous questions.

She immediately rushed to her room. She slept on top of her bed and pretended to be asleep as soon as Martin entered the room.

" Please wake up dear. I have missed you this little while. Ah! What am I saying? You really dance well till the chief got overwhelmed with you. I hope that this does not happen to any other. I am simply trying to protect you from any other person who will dare mishandle my dear little woman" Ruth was astonished by what he said.

Although she was already aware by what Martin really meant. Her only aim was to find out the truth about Magdalene.

MARRIED AT SIXTEEN.
