CHAPTER 169

" What? Would you stop all this Haggai? Is this how low you can stoop to get what you want? Your weakness has made you to use a woman to get what you want. Why don't you fight me man to man? " Shouted Martin filled with lots of anger.

" Yes! This woman is a strong pillar for me to get what I want" replied Haggai in a harsh voice.

" I am not going to choose between Ruth and Tere. I am leaving. You can take the both of them and do whatever you want with them. This lady hunt is not my thing and has never been my thing" said Martin who left the dining.

Tere wanted to follow him too but Haggai immediately stopped her by pointing a gun at her. 

" What do you think you are doing Haggai? Martin might had not choosen from anyone of us because he loves us and feels he can never choose between us. Why? How can he even hurt his daughter's mother? He has always loved me. Fine! Let's go away from here. There is no need to make others pay for my mistakes. After all, no one threatens Tere or is in a condition to make Tere feel weak" said Tere as she went towards Haggai and tried touching him all over his body which made Haggai to lower his gun and place it on top of the table.

Ruth picked the gun and immediately pointed at Haggai.

" Sir down Haggai. You've always thought that you have the right to turn tables whenever you want to and make things go your way. I have hurt Martin a lot and I know that this was supposed to be his only hapiness which you are taking away from him. I cannot really allow that to happen Haggai. I cannot allow you to take Tere away from Martin and that is the main reason why I decided to come a long with you. I could have had a chance to say no and left with Ryan" shouted Ruth at Haggai .

Tere smiled as Haggai shook his head in disbelief. He found it hard to believe that Ruth betrayed her and sided with Tere who had always hurt her ever since she got married to Married to Martin at the age of sixteen.

" Good job! How about the fact that Tere killed your father and siblings? As if it was not enough, she sent someone to mambo town to kill your grandma and mama but only succeeded to kill your grandma. How can you have the strength to defend such a person?" Asked Haggai laughing annoyingly.

" Because I am not like Tere or Martin or you. It's been years since my father and siblings die and yet I have not been able to gather evidence to implicate Tere till now. Maybe going back to her true love will make her change her mind and do the right thing. Maybe it will make her to surrender to the police for the mistakes that she has done in the past till now" said Ruth as tears welled down her eyes.

Martin came back to the dining at that instant and was astonished to find Ruth holding a gun and pointing at Haggai. Ruth signalled to Tere to go towards Martin. Tere immediately went towards Martin and pecked him on his cheeks. Haggai on the other hand left the mansion and the closer gates as well filled with lots of anger.

" Thank you Ruth. Today you have truly understood what my hapiness is and where it truly lies. Wow! Looking at the clock. It's almost time for your engagement party and I know you will arrive once it has started. So please, allow me to be your designer for today. I want to buy you your engagement dress and shoes as an appreciation for what you have done for me today" said Tere smiling. 

" If this is what I need to do right now then so be it. You can both go and change while I sit down here and wait for both of you to be the ones to take me to my engagement party" said Ruth smiling as she sat on the dining chair.

Tere and Martin left immediately to their matrimonial room to shower and change. Ruth decided to tour around the mansion. She toured the whole house and was astonished to find out that the whole mansion of messy. There were no maidens around the house. This made Ruth to be fillled with lots of worries as she decided to go to the kitchen to drink water. She was astonished to find Lady Naba crying while washing utensils at the sink. Ruth immediately went towards her filled with lots of worries.

" What is it Lady Nana? Is Martin or Tere being hard on you?" Asked Ruth since she knew that they were the only ones who would make Lady Nana cry. 

" It's not about them ma'am. It's about Lady Ruby" said Lady Nana in a pellucid voice.

" What about Lady Ruby? Where is she? And why is the mansion too messy?" Asked Ruth filled with lots of curiosity.

" Lady Ruby, she became tired of working for Martin and therefore began to do everything as she pleased. Today before you came, she took a lot of time that serve Martin and Tere a late luncheon while she called me in her block at the servants quarters to drink wine with her. Martin found us in the act and decided to send her over to the at the beggars corner. I am really worried about her Ruth. The only thing she always wished all her life was to resign from working at the closer gates but Sir Martin will never has never wanted to grant her that request" said Lady Nana in a pellucid voice.

" Lady Nana! Why then are you hurt? If this has happened to her, then if means it's something that she always did as a habit which finally angered Martin. You know what? I have always wanted to come back here but I can't. I can't associate myself which things which do happen here at the closer gates. That is why I can't save Lady Ruby. I am getting engaged today. Very soon I will marry the man who means so much to me" said Ruth smiling.

" Have you suddenly reconciled with Sir Martin?" Asked Lady Nana smiling. 

" No! I am getting engaged to another man. The man who has done a lot of good things in my life. I cannot save any of you from the claws of Martin but, you can all work for me if you want to" said Ruth. 

" How will that happen? It has never been easy to terminate a working contract here at the closer gates" said Lady Nana.

" I am Magdalene's granddaughter and I know what procedures need to be take for a servant to terminate her contract here at the closer gates but I am afraid not today. I will need a short period of time to help all of you servants terminate your contracts and begin a new life outside the closer gates" said Ruth who drank her water and immediately left to the living room.

She was astonished to find out that Tere and Martin had finished preparing themselves. 

" Shall we leave Ruth? Time is not on our side" said Tere smiling.

" Of course! My future husband must be turning mad right now. I know he has started thinking that I won't attend the engagement party" said Ruth as they all left the mansion.

Ruth entered the back seat of Martin's car as soon as they arrived to where the car was. Martin immediately drove off with Tere seares beside him.

" Which boutique do you want us to go to? " Asked Tere .

" None that I can think off. As much as I remember, most boutiques in this town have always been put of bound for me. They considered my grandma a witch and they thought that I could be a witch too. So, can we go and buy the dress in one of the boutiques at Mambo town. I really love the dresses over there" said Ruth smiling. 

" Yes you can. Why would I deny you that? I know how much you now treasure mambo town and if it's your town statred by your grandma just like closer gates. What I meant was that you cannot survive living the other kind of life. You are used to royalty and royalty always follows you wherever you go" said Tere.

" I am not that kind of a person. I was just born with royalty running through my veins. Inam royalty and royalty finds me not just where I am but as who I am. I am Magdalene's granddaughter" said Ruth smiling.

This made Tere to remain silent throughout the journey. She sounded like a pretty nice lady but Ruth knew that Tere would never change. The only thing that was making Ruth to keep Tere closer to her was the fact that she wanted Tere to stop the huge war which she had allied with Mr. One to initiate . Therefore, giving Tere whatever she wanted was the only way out.
