CHAPTER 146
Everybody in the dining room felt emotional as they began to cry although it felt amazing to watch the mother daughter bond.
" I know you have not taken breakfast yet. Please sit on the dining chair and have your breakfast. I still need to go and check if my mama is alright since we have gone through a lot in these past few days and weeks of our lifetime" said Naomi who left.
" My mama seems to be mourning my grandma because she has not yet accepted the fact that grandma is dead. Why did she have to leave us? She never wronged anyone but I don't understand the main reason why someone had to kill her. Why can't I ever be happy? The past always clings back to me wherever I go" said Ruth.
" Sister! I hate to see you in such a condition. Please take your breakfast and forget about all our sorrows for now. Let's show those people who have made us feel sad that we can be happy no matter what happens" said Faith who signalled to Ruth to smile.
Ruth's smile made Lawrence who was seated at the dining table all this while to smile too.
" If this makes Lawrence to smile, then, it makes me to smile too" said Nelly which made everyone at the dining table to smile.
On hearing this, Lawrence left the dining table filled with lots of anger. Nelly said that intentionally since she knew that it would offend Lawrence and yet she wanted to offend him.
Ruth on the other hand decided not to follow Naomi and comfort her. She knew that Naomi needed sometime alone in order for her to accept the bitter truth that Magdalene was no more.
" When are you going to start work as the new case manager Nelly?" Asked Ruth filled with lots of curiosity.
Ruth asked Nelly deliberately since she wanted to delay the process inorder for Vivian to stay longer at Mambo cell. She felt that a few days in cell was not enough to pay for the sins of murder that Vivian was involved in.
" I want to be the new case manager as soon as possible so that I can help Vivian to get out of mambo cell and come back home to be with us. I am sure that she has learnt her lesson for this short time she has stayed in mambo cell" said Nelly feeling a little bit sad.
" Fine! I hope that she has learnt her lesson because the next time that she tries to harm my family, then she will have to deal with me face to face" said Ruth who left the dining table.
She did not want Nelly to see the fact that she was sad.
Martin and Akeshia kept mourning Magdalene as well. According to them, Magdalene was a special person in their heart. They still made a plan to go and steal Magdalene from her grave. As soon as they arrived at Magdalene's house, they immediately went to the graveyard and were astonished when they found Haggai standing beside the graveyard. He had gone to steal Magdalene too and found it difficult because of the house that had been built of rock covering the whole grave from the outside .
Both Akeshia and Martin were accompanied by Lady Ruby and Lady Nana.
" What are you doing here in my mama's grave?" Asked Akeshia filled with lots of anger.
" Don't I have the right to be here too. I have worked for Magdalene for so many years at the closer gates. I think that I have the right to be here too" shouted Haggai at Akeshia.
" Fine! I think that according to me it is hard to steal my mama because her grave yard has been cemented and a small house coverage built of rock built on top of it" said Akeshia who was a little bit worried.
She suddenly remembered all the memories of that house since Magdalene used to take both Akeshia and Naomi at that house when they were little. Magdalene loved them both equally. There was no single day that Magdalene failed to take her side even though she felt that Akeshia was wrong.
" No! We can all not hurt my mama when she is no more. She never made me feel any less or unwanted when she decided to adopt me. That is why I think and feel that we shouldn't be doing this anymore. This is what Magdalene wanted. This is where she wanted to be burried " said Akeshia as tears welled down her eyes.
" Why are you saying all this mama? I thought that you wanted to burry mama at the closer gates" said Martin who was in deep state of confusion.
" I agree but I think that the right thing to do is to allow Magdalene rest in peace in the place that she chose. Let's go Martin" said Akeshia who held Martin's arm and left accompanied by Lady Nana and Lady Ruby.
They all left but Martin kept wondering the main reason why Akeshia had suddenly changed her mind. He decided to leave things the way they were rather than asking a lot of questions.
How could she really hurt the person who took her as her daughter the very first moment Magdalene saw her without caring about where she came from?
It did not really matter whether she was a witch or not, still Magdalene had the heart to take her in. She took her in despite the number of beggars outside the closer gates who were children.
This was reason enough for Akeshia to feel that she did not need to hurt Magdalene.
Haggai left too and went to the abandoned house that Ruth had taken both him and Tere when she chased them out of the closer gates. He found Tere preparing breakfast in a place that looked like a kitchen and she was filled with lots of anger.
" I hate this place Haggai. I wish you could have not saved me and let me go to the police station then I am sure either Martin or Akeshia could have bailed me out. I can't do this anymore Haggai because this love isn't a love that was supposed to exist. I have always felt that I loved Martin no matter what happened" said Tere.
" Quiet! How can you say such kind of words to me? How can you easily forget the times you told me that you loved me? We are in this together till the end Tere. We have to work together and destroy that video that will incriminate us for the confession that Faith made us to make" said Haggai.
" I know that we have to support each other in that but I don't support the fact that we should love each other. I don't support that we should love each other once again because if we love each other, then we will be weak as a couple. I really hate this place Haggai" said Tere who felt frustruated but then changed her mind regarding the matter when she saw how Haggai gazed at her filled with lots of fury.
" Then we will go to town One and stay there since Mr. One is working with us now and has to work with us whether he likes it or not. No one ever backs out of a deal and a deal is a deal. All I have to do is to convince both Martin and Akeshia to order the people of the closer gates to support us in this war" said Tere again who wanted to leave but Haggai held her arm preventing her not to leave.
He pushed Tere towards him and caressed her on her cheeks.
" Why do you run away from love? Why did you marry me few years back if you didn't love me? How do I believe the fact that you don't love me anymore and yet till now you haven't divorced me or done anything that would make this marriage end? I know that you love me Tere and I will never let you go or let any harm come your way" said Haggai smiling.
" Haggai. .me.... I..." Said Tere in a pellucid voice but Haggai suddenly interrupted.
" Don't say anything. I just want to see this overwhelming face everyday. We have this chance and nothing prevents us to live this kind of life to our expectations. Nothing prevents us from having our second child" said Haggai.
Tere forcefully moved away from Haggai. She felt that Haggai was being shameless at that instant and it was not the right time to talk about such matters.
" I am going to take a shower. Please look after the food and ensure that it does not spoil. We will discuss about this matter once you stop being shameless" said Tere who left the supposed kitchen.
That was an abandoned house which had been abandoned for a long period of time. Therefore, the kitchen looked dusty and had spider webs were all over yet Tere did not bother to remove them. She actually did not bother to do any house chores because she was not used to them. The only thing that she did was to cook since she needed to eat and had no enough money to buy foods at Olam town since packed foods were expensive.
Haggai continued cooking the food since he knew that Tere was not used to lit the firewood and using firewood for cooking because of the smoke.
As soon as he finished, he joined Tere in the supposed bedroom but was astonished to find out that Tere was sleeping and had not yet showered. He tried to wake her up even though he knew that Tere had escaped preparing the food. Tere pretended to be asleep since she did not want anything to do with Haggai at that instant.
