Sideburns turned to glare at me, and his girlfriend’s stare was full of
venom and death.
“Toss that bitch out right now,” she told him.
“That’s exactly what she wants,” he said. “We just dragged her here
today. And we’ll punish her by making a soldier out of her.”
“But I don’t want that rat girl in my Academy!” she said.
“The Academy isn’t yours until you become my wife, Princess
Viviane,” he snapped with his alpha stare, and she flinched. “Just put up with her for a few more months, love.” His voice softened. “This new girl is a stray wolf. She’ll earn her keep here, and she won’t cause trouble for you. I’ll make sure of it.”
Ouch. He thought he could speak for me. It wasn’t exactly music to my ears to be talked down by my supposed mate as he tried to pacify another woman.
Did he really have to stomp on me to make his girlfriend feel better?
“Tell me this, because I don’t get it.” I chuckled. “How is it my fault that you lovebirds made funny ass sounds while expressing your great love? Royals and nobles fart too—”
The princess’s eyes burned. “I’ll kill the rat right now!”
Sideburns pulled her back.
Shade moved to stand beside me in a blur. Though his pose seemed
casual, his shoulders tensed up. He would defend me, no matter who attacked me. I stepped three paces away from him. I wouldn’t put him in that situation and drive a wedge between him and his brother. Besides, I could fight my own battles.
“Shut the fuck up for once, Pip!” Sideburns snarled, his handsome face twisting in anger. “Your big fucking mouth will get you killed one day!”
My jaw clenched, but it was probably smart to retreat now. The lovebirds were both heirs, and they could kill me by raising their pinkies. Besides, Sideburns wasn’t worth fighting for.
“The road trip was too much for you, Pip,” Shade said with a yawn. “Let’s get you settled in.” He stretched a hand toward me. “C’mon, Catnip.”
“I’ll take it from here, Prince Shade,” a shifter girl wearing the same red and gray uniform as Viviane said in a bright voice.
The petite beauty had dark hair and a heart-shaped face. Her small nose was cute and tilted up. Her pink lips were ready to offer a friendly smile at any time. Though she was about five feet two inches, she had a great, curvy figure.
A piece of knowledge flew from my fractured memory bank and told me that she was of Asian royal heritage. She was one of the few who had remained in the courtyard when Sideburns shouted for everyone to leave. It had been brave of her to stay, or maybe she was just too curious to leave and would rather suffer his wrath than miss out on the rest of the drama.
Two other Asian girls flanked her. Both were half a head taller than her, one with dark auburn hair and the other with honey brown hair.
Shade blinked at the Asian chick, and then he smiled. “If it isn’t too much trouble, Princess Danielle?”
